Chereads / The Orphaned Queen / Chapter 22 - The Kings Mate

Chapter 22 - The Kings Mate

After about an hour of having a conversation with my newly found mother, I start to feel overwhelmed and subconsciously reach for my mates' hand. He automatically realized what was going on and told everyone I needed rest. They said their goodbyes and Gamma Sam said he would show my mother to her room. I said thank you, and they left.

"Thank you for everything," I say to my mate.

"How are you dealing with all of this?" He asked, and I shrugged my shoulders.

"It's a lot. I always thought my parents abandoned me, That they thought I was a mistake, a burden, and worthless," I say. "That's what my ex-mate told me, Or fake mate, as Dosha puts it."

"He was an idiot!" He and Dosha say at the same time, making me burst out laughing.

"What's so funny?" He asked, sounding very curious.

"You and Dosha said he was an idiot at the same and I could.t help but laugh. I'm sorry." I said, thinking he would find me laughing at him as rude.

"You have nothing to apologize for, my dear. Your wolf is very smart." He said, and my face heats up in embarrassment.

"Are you running a fever?" He asks as he places his hand on my forehead to check for a fever. Suddenly those sparks ignite and shoot through my entire body. He withdraws his hand, and the sparks dissipate, making a whimper escape my lips. He laughs lightly and grabs my hand, and they return. We then sit in silence for a bit.

"Are you going to reject me because I'm a hybrid, and you are the King?" I finally ask him.

"I am the King, and I'm not going to reject you. I accept you as my mate, and I hope you can accept me as your mate. But I have to tell you some things before you accept being with me." He says. "I want you to know everything first."

"I can understand that," I say.

"I need you to be completely healed first. Your health is more important than anything." He says.

"Will you still sit with me until I'm healed?" I ask, hating how desperate I sound.

"Of course, my beautiful mate. As long as you and Princess Odett there will allow me, I'll always be here." He says, making me smile.

"Princess Odett huh?" I ask, and he nods and laughs.

"Well, if you are to be the queen and she is your daughter, then that would make her my daughter and the princess. Right?" He says. In my shock, I nod.

"I didn't think you would accept her as yours. You are the Alpha of all Alphas, and we're just hybrid orphans." I say with tears streaming down my face.

"Of course, She will have to accept me as well." He says. "But I'll make sure that both of you have anything you two would ever want or need whether the both of you except me or not."

"Thank you," I say as I move the now sleeping Odett over and onto the bed and slowly try to stand up from the bed. My legs give out, and I almost hit the floor. The King wraps his arm around my waist quickly and holds me up.

"Whoa, where are you going?" He asks me.

"I have to pee. I've been holding it in all day. And I'm not going to pee in the bed." I say, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"At least let me help you. You haven't been on your legs in a few days. You're going to be slightly unsteady." He says, and I nod.

"After I go pee, it's time for my eye drops again, then he helps me lay back down in the bed. He sits by my bed and never lets go of my hand.

"Don't you need sleep?" I ask.

"I can sleep on the couch when Jessica and Orian come in for their shift." He says.

"Or you could lay in bed with Odett and me. And tell them not to worry about coming back tonight." I say, worried about how he will react to me, suggesting he sleep with me. "Not like that. I just thought you could use the rest, and it would be more comfortable in the bed instead of a couch. Plus, Jess and Orian could relax a little too."

"Okay," He says, and I release the breath I didn't realize I was holding in and scoot Odett and myself over, giving him room to lay beside me. He kicks off his shoes and slides his slacks down, exposing his gym shorts, before climbing into the bed next to me.

"He must have picked up on my nervousness because he starts gently caressing my cheek before pulling me into his chest. When I inhale his amazing scent, I can feel my nervousness melt away. The tension in my body starts to dissipate, and my muscles relax as a smile spreads on my face.

"Thank you," I say into his chest as I slowly let sleep overtake me, and I'm swallowed by a peaceful and warm sleep.
