Chereads / The Orphaned Queen / Chapter 14 - Truth Revealed

Chapter 14 - Truth Revealed

After finding Ashley trying to drown Rain. Moving quickly, I grab Ashley by her hair, yanking her back, making her collide with the door frame, not caring how hard she hits because my only concern is Rain. I reach into the tub and lift Rains naked body out, moving quickly to place her on the bed in her room. She's not responding to my touch, and I can barely hear her heartbeat.

"I've already linked the doctor to let him know we need him. He will be here any minute." Orian says.

"Sam, lock that bitch up in the dungeon. I'll deal with her later." I say in a voice that isn't mine but Rykers, showing that he has come to the surface now. Sam bows, then get two of my men to carry Ashley out as she attempts to fight them off.

In the middle of all the commotion, Rains heart stops. I frantically jump onto the bed at her side to start CPR until the doctor walks in a moment later. As the doctor runs into the room, he asks what happened. I tell him everything while still performing CPR on Rain as his equipment gets brought into the room. A second later, I heard a scream coming from the door. I glance over to see it's Rains best friend and the pup. Orian moves quickly, pulling them from the room and into the hall just as the doctor and I get her heart started again. The doctor then shooed me from the room so he could do his work without me growling at him every time he touched her. When I got to the hall, I saw Jessica and the pup crying and Orian doing everything he could to calm them down.

"How is she?" He asks, looking nervously at me.

"We got her breathing again, but Ryker wouldn't stop growling at the doctor, so he kicked me out," I say while trying to calm myself down and doing my best to ignore Rykers protest at leaving his mate.

"What happened? And who are you, and why would you be growling at the doctor, who is trying to save my sister?" She asked, and I looked at Orian for a brief moment. I assumed he would have told his mate everything. Apparently, I was wrong.

"I am the King, and my ex-misteress tried to kill her," I say, trying to avoid the last question.

"If she doesn't come out of this, I will enjoy killing your whore in the most painful way possible!" Ryker growls.

"What does my sister have to do with your mistress?" She asks, completely unfazed by me being the King.

"Rain is my mate, and Ashley was angry and jealous that I wouldn't accepter as my Queen," I say reluctantly.

"There is no way Rain is your mate. She would have told me. And she wouldn't want to leave!" She declares. "You're wrong."

"She doesn't know," I say. "I found out she was my mate when she first got to the castle, unconscious from her fight with the rogues. I've been avoiding her since then."

"You've been avoiding her even though you knew she was your mate?" She asked, and I nod my head. I can tell she's getting angrier by the second, and even Orian can't calm her down with their mate bond.

"Do you know the hell she's been through and how she feels about herself?" She asks me. I nod again, but that seems to piss her off even more as she shoves Odett into Orians arms and then takes another step closer to me.

"Wow, she's scary," Ryker says. "I won't save you. I think you deserve a good ass beating for what you did!"

"Is she not good enough for you?" She asks. "Is it because she's a hybrid?"

"It's not that at all," I say, finally finding my voice.

"Then what is it?" She screams with tears running down her face. "Why does my sister, My best friend, not deserve to be happy with a mate that wants her? What did she do to deserve to be mated to men like you and Alpha Ian? Men that don't deserve her!"

Before I can answer her question and defend myself, the door to Rain's bedroom opens, and we all fall silent for a moment. I turn to face the door, hoping to see Rain, and I'm slightly disappointed when it's just the doctor.

"How is she?" Jessica asks, still crying as she takes Odett from Orian. As I start to take a step toward the bedroom door, I hear a low growl. I turn back around, and I'm shocked to see it's coming from Odette. Her eyes have a purple ring around her beautiful green eyes that match my mates' eyes so perfectly. I can't seem to pull my eyes away from hers. Suddenly the doctor clears his throat to get everyone's attention.

"She is stable and should wake up any minute now. If her wolf wasn't present, I doubt she would have survived. She will need plenty of rest and quiet!" He says as he walks out of the doorway. "I will be back to check on her after I complete my rounds at the hospital."

"Her wolf is back?" She asked, looking at the doctor, and he nods in response. "She said she hadn't returned since the rogue attacked us."

"Her wolf was definitely present for a brief moment." He answered before continuing to walk down the hall.

"Her wolf?" I ask, looking at Jessica.

"Yes, her wolf. She is a hybrid, the first of her kind, and Odett is the second. We have no clue what kind of hybrid Odett is other than a wolf, but Rain is a wolf/witch hybrid." She said, and then she walked around me and into Rains room.

"I told you! Now you look like an idiot because you couldn't listen to me or your beta!" Ryker says as I stand in the middle of the doorway, dumbfounded.

"Snap out of it, man," Orian says as he places his hand on my shoulder.

"You didn't tell your mate anything?" I ask

"Nope, It wasn't my place, plus I wasn't sure you would accept her." He responds as he walks into the room.

"What do I do, Ryker?" I ask without hesitation.

"Go to her and beg her to forgive you!" He answers. "And also make sure to tell her I wanted to accept her from the very beginning."
