Chapter 28 - 27 - City Guards

At the end of the day those students are still relying on the protection of the teachers, who are watching them.

So although students fight amongst each other, it never goes over the top or to far otherwise the teachers will have to get involved.

Currently the students are 100% having conflicts but it's all tricks, like kill stealing or passively threatening each other into giving up loot.

All teachers turn a blind eye to all this as long as it isn't too excessive and no students are harmed.

It is sort of a hidden test on students which not only tests their characters but also how they deal with the threat from other humans.

All of it is actually recorded secretly into a person's record by the Academies, as a person's character can be the deciding factor in if you get in or not.

But that being the case just because it happens every year in every city across The Great Star Empire, doesn't mean that the teachers like it when they see a glimpse of the true face of their students.

Them as teachers can actually get into trouble if the character of their students is terrible. So the actions of their students play a huge role in their career and reputations.

Teachers in the Great Star Empire don't sore students off of their class but off of their test scores and how they act.

Of course your class does have a large impact on the students future academy, but it is once again is not the deciding factor.

So currently as all of the different schools teachers are sitting together and monitoring their students, some teachers faces couldn't help but be sour at the actions of their school's students.

And write down their names for later, as hopefully they can correct this bad behavior before it becomes irreversible.

"It seems that this year's students isn't the... well best." A teacher from 3rd High couldn't help but say.

"Yes especially these 2nd High students.... They are a bit... too much right?" His co-worker couldn't help but agree, as she had an awkward smile as she sipped her tea.

This exchange made the two teachers from 2nd High to look at each other as their faces to stiffen.

"Cough, Yes it would seem that there are a lot more... students with behavior problems." One of the embarrassed teachers couldn't help but speak in an attempt to save face.

"Hmm that is true, it would seem that... well.. yes there must have been some reason why." The other 2nd High teacher couldn't help but voice her opinion.

"Yes that is something I have to agree with, as it would seem that there are a lot more students this year than ever before with behavior issues." Steve Thorn one of the teachers sent by 1st High spoke this time although on the inside he was very happy.

He was happy as there were only a few problematic students from his school and when you compare that to the other schools especially their rival School 2nd High, he couldn't help but feel happy.

April Brown was also quite happily in a good mood but for slightly different reasons than her co-worker, as later she'll along with the other teachers will get a bigger bonus this year.

"Oh is that Michael?" Steve's attention was taken away from the conversation as he saw Michael on one of the 2nd high screens.

Watching it further he also noticed Victor standing behind Michael, his words also gained April's attention as well.

Watching further they saw that both Victor and Michael were surrounded.

"Mike, why are your students surrounding two of my students?" Steve asked one of the 2nd High teachers.

"Huh, and how am I supposed to know?" In a bad mood he angrily asked back.

"Mike this has long gone past what is allowed, 12 students ganging up on 2!" Steve's face darkened at the lack of any response from Mike.

"And what do you want me to do about it?" Mike asked back, he already was in a terrible mood from embarrassment. So being called out by a teacher from his school's direct competitor didn't help his mood one bit.

Mike looked over to the screen that Steve was pointing at and took a look, watching his face darkened but not at the actions of his school's students but because other teachers from other schools also took notice because of his outburst.

"Oh now students are even out numbering 1 to 6 before threatening them, really the students this year are way below average." One of the teachers from 5th High spoke while shaking her head with the palm of her hand on her cheek.

"Yes I would have to agree, if they were my students they would be punished and their behavior corrected before it becomes irreversible." Another teacher agrees while giving his own opinion.

Mike's face froze as he realized that his out burst had drawn the attention of the other teachers.

He wanted to retort but he knew that if he did then he would only ruin his reputation even further.

So he could only shut his own mouth as he did his best to ignore the ongoing conversation amongst the different teachers.

But even still his eyes held rage as he continued to watch on the different students, continuing to do his job.

Victor and Michael soon reached the City walls, walking along the tall 10 meter tall walls they could see groups of city guards.

Each one in a set of matching armour, their armour was green, teal and silver with the city's symbol on their chest plates and shields.

The symbol was of a flower, a white and teal lily on a silver background. They each carried a spear and shield, while a sword was on their hip.

As they patrolled the walls they watched for any monsters or smugglers.

"So how many do you think will join the City Guards this year?" Michael asked as they approached the city entrance.

"Quite a few more than last year I would imagine, after all there weren't many combat or support classes this year." Victor answered as they joined one of the many lines to enter the City.

There are actually quite a few ways to change your class, but it isn't recommended unless it is the evolution or advancement of your class.

But even then there is still a constant flow of people joining the military or an organisation with the ability to change your class.

And one such way is to join the City Guards, each city can recruit people and change their class into certain different classes.

These classes get bonuses within their respective City walls, for this reason no one wants to mess with the City Guards.

As not only do they protect the City against monsters and dangers, they are also the city's police force.

So not only do they patrol the walls but also the streets, they are the last line of defence of a City.

There isn't a force or horror that they won't stand in the way of, if it meant protecting one person they will never back down.

As they know that no matter what force they are fighting and braving against, that is nothing compared to what the men and women in the military and army fight against on the daily.

So they stand strong knowing that if they fail then there is no one else that can protect the citizens, as they are the last line standing in the way of all the horrors out there.

And so they've done and filled their responsibility for over 800 years, fighting down to the last guard even if it meant an extra second.

That is the reputation the City Guards all across the Great Star Empire have earned while protecting and upholding the law.

So the City Guards are usually held in high regard from the citizens of each of their respective Cities.

But at the end of the day most city guards are born, raised and live in the City they protect. Almost 97% of Flora City are born there.

So the communities they patrol and protect are the very ones they live in, so also everyone can recognise the City Guards.

It is especially easy in Flora City as the total population is around 50,000 as Flora City is only a Tier 0.

Each city is founded in a certain way that Victor doesn't know, but the government isn't the only ones that can create a City or town.

But even though how isn't known knowledge, some things are still known to the public like how a Town meets certain requirements it will turn into a City.

After this happens the City will get certain privileges and abilities like recruiting City Guards.
