Now, Philippa was on her way to the inn outside of Winstol, where the innkeeper and his daughter had died. She sighed as she focused her gaze outside the window of her carriage.
Earlier that day, while Philippa and her niece were sitting on the table, selecting millet seeds from the tray on the table, and having a healthy conversation, a letter arrived.
"Another letter, Madame." Jade informed Philippa. It was not the first letter they had received since the morning. The first of the letters was from the council, which was directed solely to Philippa concerning the investigation of the innkeeper's death.
"Who is it from?" Belle turned to Jade, waiting for her to give an answer to Philippa.
The maid stared down at the envelope that had a pile of wax sealing it before answering, "It is from the Lord's mansion." She didn't bother to hide her confusion over the letter from the two when she glanced up at them.
