Chapter 2 - chapter two - attempt to escape

LAMBERT'S POV

She tried hard to be defiant, but I had to play it cool.

It was not my fault that she faced this decision as I had initially come to claim what was mine when I caught sight of her picture. It was her fault for leaving it in such an open place. Something about her smile excited me, so I thought of my plan instantly. I asked her stepfather, who had been pleading with me after I threatened to sell one of his kidneys off to recover my money, and he told me who she was.

"It's my late wife's daughter." He said to me quickly.

I smiled and asked where she was. He stated he had no idea, as she probably was at her workplace doing her shifts.

"Where does she work?" I demanded.

"She works at a bookstore. I believe she should be coming back soon." He had said to me,

I proposed that I would spare his life and organs alongside the house if he would do something in return. Of course, he was interested. He was a gambler, and seeing an opportunity to gamble himself away from his impending fate, he jumped on it. For a while now, I had been seeking a way to get myself a surrogate that would bring me, my heir. I have no idea, but it seemed to me that I never found any other woman good enough as I sought perfection. Seeing her picture and her stepfather feeding me all her details got me riled up. I demanded that the document for surrogacy be brought to me while I waited.

She was even better in person. Every inch of her was spelled perfection, and the minute I saw her, I knew she was the one. She exhumed specific intelligence I could tell was unique even as she picked up the paper. I knew she was acting brave, and within her, she was scared of her marrows. Good show.

Being the Alpha of the Shadow pack was not something to be taken lightly. My pack had a name to uphold, as we were the strongest of all. However, lately, we have been facing a couple of altercations as everyone seeks the head of the Alpha. My head, as they knew, was the last male in my family and probably the last strong family member. My sister had been put in a wheelchair after someone had maliciously set fire to the greenhouse she worked in. I knew it was no ordinary attack, but there was no telling as Malia had been in a trance.

"Can I use the bathroom?" She suddenly asked me as she put a hand over her mouth like she was about to throw up.

I could understand her. What was happening to her right now?

"My men would escort you, though," I said.

"Would they also stay inside with me?" She demanded angrily.

I patted my forehead and went back to sit down.

"Fine, but they wait outside the door," I instructed.

"I'll sign when I return." She said as she started walking away.

"No funny business," I warned her, flicking my hands for two men to follow her.

Her stepfather remained on his knees, and at this point, he was trembling and sweating profusely.

"Sit," I said to him,

He hesitated fearfully, but seeing I would not repeat myself, he found the seat beside him and made himself comfy.

"Thank you, Alpha." He said to me,

"She's a smart kid," I noted.

"I reckon, sir." He said, bowing over and over again.

Whatever I was going to say was cut short as I found the silhouette of someone running out of the house and making for the woods.

"Jeez!!! Guards!!! Hurry, she's getting away!!!" I yelled as I rose simultaneously and rushed out of the house.

I felt a sudden adrenaline rush as I have never enjoyed people provoking me. I had been hoping that she would be reasonable, but that was not the case with her and her tippy toes. What had they been doing while she had found a way of escaping? I wondered as I dashed through the woods after her.

My men were chasing hard, and so was I, as I swore hard. She already had a headstart, and being a sleek werewolf made it easier for her. Soon enough, we could see her and started gaining on her when she looked behind her in fearful disdain and dashed further.

She lunged hard suddenly and reverted to her wolf form to continue the race. Her wolf would pass for the most beautiful coated wolf I had ever seen as I continued chasing as if my life depended on it. She was a silver wolf, and I soon led my men into transformation as I changed into wolf form. Like most Alpha wolves, I had glistening black fur, and it was enormous. Being in this way made it easier to track her down as I continued going after her, realizing that I was beginning to gain on her.

She was growing tired by the minute as she was not trained. I reached for her and closed the gap between us when she whirled around and smacked me hard with her claws. Her hackles were up, and I could tell she had resorted to the next best thing she could think of; self-defense.

I was amused as I stood my ground, watching my men circling her. She was more compelling and vicious in her wolf form than I would have thought of such a delicate flower. I stood tall before her as she got ready for a fight by lowering her body and preparing to lunge at me again.

Excitement coursed through my veins as I braced for her attack when she made her move. It was deflatable and understood as I sidestepped from the way of her attack. She made it as if to run off in another direction but was met by two angry werewolves blocking her path as they snapped their teeth at her. She pulled back, confused.

She had been caught in this trap, but as I approached her, she turned to me and lunged again. This time, I was ready as I smacked her hard on the side, causing her to fall across and land against a tree before falling to the ground with a loud pulp and a whimper. She stilled as she reverted to her human form, her delicate white skin glistening in the dark as she panted weakly.

I could tell she would not be making any further attempts at attacking me and then returned to my human form as I approached her. I wondered why she had yet to sit up and was breathing hard as I approached her. Was she that afraid of me now, or was she showing her willingness to surrender?

I had just come close when I caught sight of the nasty wound on the spot where I had clawed her. It did not look good at all.
