Chapter 19 - chapter 18

I sprinted through a pretty green field. It was all so bright, I loved it.

It smells of mom's cookies. They were amazing. The way they tasted was like eating so many different flavours at once and savouring the taste.

"Ruby!" A cute voice yelled my name from behind me. I spun around in a heartbeat to see a massive cookie stood upright on the grass.

I could feel the drool leaking from my mouth and quickly wiped it away with my sleeve. My feet started to move on their own and I ran towards the cookie. Absolute joy was probably the only thing that could be seen in my eyes.

Without hesitation, I immediately bit into the top of the cookie...

And pain shot through my jaw. I blinked and found myself biting into Hans's shoulder.

Why am I biting into his shoulder? Wait... when did hans get back? And... why am I biting into his shoulder?!

I pulled away and fell right back onto my bed. There I saw his figure, hans crouched down with a plate of cookies in his hands.

The cold look in his eyes shocked me due to the gesture. Such an unemotional man doing something so kind.

It's...

Ruby was left agape and took a cookie from the plate. Weiss walked in and watched in anticipation.

The young girl was excited to see her bestie try the cookies, it was Weiss's first time making them as well. Though, she had guidance from hans.

That lead her to a certain train of thought...

Who was hans günsche?

Incredible fighting skills, can cook, bake and had white hair. A distinct trait of her own family. Could they be related? A brother? Maybe an uncle?

But that would mean she had feelings for either her brother or her uncle.

'hold on a moment weiss. We don't even know if we're actually related! I can't jump to conclusions. Why not ask him? But how do I do that?! I can't just ask are you my estranged brother or uncle!?' While weiss was having a mental debate, Ruby bit into the cookie.

"this is amazing!" Her bestie's yell quickly snapped her out of her little crisis. Weiss rushed over with excitement but stray thoughts still plagued her mind.

"really?" Ruby turned to her with slight confusion before it finally clicked.

"did you make these weiss? They're really good! Almost as good as mom's." Weiss hugged Ruby with all her might.

Granted, the two girls were about equal in strength so it wasn't much.

"you must be a really good Baker!" Weiss blushed and pulled away from the hug while averting her gaze towards hans.

"did hans make these?"

"No! Well... he guided me." Ruby stared at hans with curiosity.

"where did you learn to bake?" Hans remained silent and went for the door.

But he stopped when he grabbed the handle.

"I... I had... a... sister... once..." The captain left through the door, leaving two equally shocked girls behind.

'a sister? But... what happened to her? Is that why he's so... closed off? Yeah, that's the right word.' Meanwhile, weiss was stuck in her thoughts of an entirely different nature.

'a sister? That... doesn't help my predicament. It doesn't eliminate the possibility that he's my brother or an uncle. Saying he had a sister once implies he either lost contact or she died. So there are two possibilities. A, he is my estranged brother or uncle and was driven away from the family. B, he has no relation to my family and has either lost contact with his own sister or she has... died... oh.'

Weiss seemed to only just process what her love interest said.

'his sister could be dead. That could be why his face is so unchanging and emotionless! Because he's traumatised! It all makes sense now! But, there's no confirmation. Only speculation.'

Hans günsche was on his way up to the headmaster's office. On his way there, he had noticed several ships flying above the academy.

With a ping, the elevator doors opened and the seven-foot-tall giant could see four people. One was a white-haired woman dressed in combat attire with a striking resemblance to weiss. The man next to her wore a simple white business suit with an open middle. He was clean-shaven with short, straight black hair but feint wrinkles could be seen on his furrowed brow.

The two other individuals in the room were ones he was familiar with. Glynda goodwitch and ozpin.

"ah, hans. It's good to see you up so early. These two are some people I've been meaning to introduce you to. The man is James ironwood. James is the headmaster of mantle's huntsman academy, atlas academy." James reached his hand out to shake.

The wolf took hold of the general's hand with caution, careful not to crush the man's hand.

"quite a firm grip. But not as strong as I expected." Ozpin sipped his drink while giving hans a thankful look.

'I'm quite glad he has the sense to hold back.' After another sip from his coffee, the renowned headmaster spoke again.

"the woman next to him is atlas specialist winter Schnee. Miss Schnee is the eldest child of the Schnee family and weiss Schnee's sister. They are here due to the upcoming vytal festival which is to celebrate the end of the great war." Winter held out her hand just like James and hans took it in an identical fashion.

"if I dare to ask, why do you have no shirt on?" Her stern face did not surprise the German man.

"coat... destroyed..." The woman nodded but still stared at him strangely.

"don't mind him. Hans is not much of a conversationalist. He prefers to speak through writing. Speaking of which, did you need something?" Ozpin held out a notepad and hans let go of winters hand.

Promptly taking the notepad, hans grabbed a pencil from the table before scribbling something down in a few seconds.

'I'd like to go shopping for clothes and an update on the silver chains. Hmm, not a surprising request.'

Hans calmly awaited an answer from his employer, like a puppy waiting to be fed.

"you don't need to ask to leave the school grounds. As for the item you ordered, it should arrive sometime today." The natural werewolf turned away and headed straight back for the elevator.

The door closed and everyone was left in silence.

"permission to speak sir?" The general nodded.

"that man is incredibly experienced in combat. But, he's not normal. I felt as if he was analysing every part of me in order to learn the fastest way to defeat me. His mind seems to always be thinking about combat." Ozpin let out a small laugh.

"I don't mean to be rude, Winter. But hans günsche from my perspective is just a troubled man looking for a purpose. He's definitely an experienced combatant but I don't think combat is on his mind constantly. You make him out to be a paranoid nihilist."

"my apologies sir, but that is the first impression I got. I apologise if I was out of line." Ironwood caressed his chin, wondering.

"is he the person who's been dealing with the humanoid Grimm?" The two headmasters met gazes and oz slowly nodded.

"there was something I forgot to tell you last time. The humanoid Grimm... they're made of human corpses." Ironwood did a double take, human corpses? How awful. It only served to motivate the half-metal man further in the crusade against Salem.

"winter. Go check our records for any missing atlas officers within the past few months." Winter seemed hesitant to follow the order but approached the lift and pressed the button to call the elevator.

After a minute, the door opened and winter left leaving the two old friends alone in the room.

"we need to stop her. Every day, more people are harmed by her madness. It needs to stop!" General ironwood slammed his fist onto the table, brimming with anger.

"I also have an update. Summer rose is alive and well. Hans broke into salems Castle. He grabbed summer and fled immediately. From what summer told me, it seems that salems Castle is on the dragon island. However, that island is infested with Grimm. That's why it baffles me as to how hans got in with such ease."

Coming back to our protagonist, he was strolling about and searching for a clothing shop. Though, many people were staring at him due to his shirtless state.

'I have no idea which clothes store is good.' Hans decided to just enter the next one he saw and ended up in a shop called "remnant to completion".

The shop was empty with only one other customer inside. The woman wore what seemed to be a long cocoa-coloured shirt, a black beret, a black belt with golden studs, black high heels and black trousers with gold-lined pockets.

The captain could swear that he had seen the young woman before, that's when he remembered, coco Adel.

He's only ever seen a picture of her but he never met her. Ozpin gave him a file to read that went over students in brief detail. Hans had read about her and currently, she seemed to be the most suited to his current predicament.

The günsche child approached the student and placed a hand on her shoulder.

Coco turned to the man who had interrupted her shopping spree. A heavy scowl on her face.

"oh, you're the guard at beacon... I see the problem. Come with me, you're getting dressed up." Coco began to walk towards a section of the shop and hans followed.

Hans günsche was by no means a man of fashion. Picking out fancy or good-looking clothes was never an appeal to him. It just felt like a waste of time.

Coco picked out several clothing items and passed them to the security guard who lacked a sense of fashion.

"go into one of the nearby changing stalls and try these on." Hans took the lump of clothing and entered a nearby stall.

Black pants, black socks, black short-sleeved shirt and a black pair of boots. Though, the boots seemed heavier than necessary. The shirt had a golden zipper running down the middle and also went up to his neck, a belt that had golden lining.

An idea had popped into Hans's head.

'besitz didn't seem to work on clothing. But that was also the case with kommandants sword. If I use my aura in tandem with besitz, am I able to decide what effects it's imbued with? Only one way to find out.' His hands glowed white as he took grip of the shirt.

Several white lines ran through the shirt making hans realise his theory was partially right. To test the other part of his theory, hans made a slight rip in the shirt.

The tear sewed itself back together.

'i was right. I can decide what effects an item is imbued with if I think of the ability.' Hans took his remaining clothing off and promptly put the outfit on with no difficulty while using besitz to grant the same effects on the other articles of clothing.

He stepped out of the booth and coco looked him up and down.

"pretty good. But I remember being told you had a very long coat, going down to about your ankles. We'll get you one of those. This store has about everything. A pair of gloves would go quite well with it. Leather would be best." Coco wandered off but quickly came back with a black overcoat and black leather gloves. Right now he looks like a criminal mastermind. The open black leather coat looked especially intimidating coupled with his naturally stern face.

'is she trying to make me look suspicious?' Hans threw them on right then and there.

"really nice. Tell ya what, I'll pay for it. As repayment for the heiress helping velvet." Hans really wasn't used to such gratitude.

"thanks..."
