Chereads / CHAMPION OF COSMOS / Chapter 57 - Waterfall

Chapter 57 - Waterfall

A wood color python with its large scale size of almost triple of human body with a single horn on its head as it sensed a living creature it started moving toward it to catch its prey

Alex caught a glimpse of the beast Alex was not fear of the snake but he knew it was not time as his grandpa taught to be an ethereal champion one should train hard even to get to the basic level but at his age, battling an apex predator, even a low-ranked one, was a death sentence.

Alex looked at his surroundings focusing his senses and trying to find a way out. His grandfather, Max, had taught him well. Alex knew that to become an ethereal champion, one must train rigorously.

The Pytharon's eyes locked onto Alex, sensing him as its next meal. Alex's mind raced as he assessed his surroundings. He had to find a way out. To his left, the trees were densely packed, creating a maze of trunks and foliage. He turned and sprinted towards the thickest part of the forest, hoping to use the trees to his advantage. The Pytharon slithered after him, its massive body brushing against trees and shrubs.

As Alex weaved through the trees, he glanced back. The beast was fast, too fast. He needed a plan. He zigzagged through the forest, turning right, then left, then straight, and left again. He noticed the Pytharon's tail getting caught between two large trees. It was a fleeting opportunity. Alex's heart pounded as he slid down a small slope, narrowly avoiding the python's snapping jaws.

The Pytharon's tongue flicked out, tasting the air, just inches from Alex's face. The beast's immense size made it difficult to maneuver through the tightly packed trees. Alex saw his chance. He quickly rifled through his clothes and pulled out a small blue cube. With a flick, the cube expanded into a compact chest containing advanced nanotechnology equipment. He grabbed a sleek, rectangular gun, its surface glowing with red plasma fluid.

Alex positioned himself behind a sturdy tree, aiming at the struggling Pytharon. Grandfather Max had entrusted him with this weapon, knowing it could save his life in dire situations. As the Pytharon broke free from its entanglement, it surged forward, its eyes burning with predatory intent. Alex's finger tightened on the trigger. He held his breath and fired without even blinking.

The plasma bullet soared through the air with a sizzling sound, hitting the Pytharon square in the head. The beast let out a deafening hiss as the plasma burned through its scales and flesh, leaving a trail of smoke and the pungent smell of charred meat. The Pytharon's massive body convulsed before collapsing with a thunderous crash, its lifeless form sprawled out on the forest floor.

Alex leaned against a tree, his body trembling with exhaustion. Sweat poured down his face, mixing with the blood on his skin. He glanced at the plasma gun, now depleted of its energy, and muttered a silent thanks to Grandpa Max. Despite his victory, Alex knew he couldn't rest for long. The scent of the dead Pytharon would attract other predators.

For half an hour, Alex sat in silence, catching his breath and listening to the forest's sounds. His body ached, and he felt drained, but he had to keep moving. He already had tried contacting anyone through his communication device, but the forest seemed to block all signals.

Suddenly, the sounds of the grew grass louder. Leaves rustled, branches snapped, and distant growls echoed through the trees. The Pytharon's dead body scent has attracted a lot of attention. Alex forced himself to his feet, his muscles protesting with every movement. He scanned the area, his senses on high alert.

"Think, Alex. Think," he muttered to himself, recalling his training. He needed to find higher ground, a place where he could see his surroundings and plan his next move. He noticed a rocky outcrop nearby, a potential vantage point. With a deep breath, he started climbing, each step with trembling legs.

As he reached the top, he looked out over the vast forest. The sea of green seemed endless, but he spotted a glimmer of hope—a distant waterfall. Water meant safety, at least temporarily. It could mask his scent and provide a brief respite from the predators.

He began his descent, moving cautiously and staying alert. The forest's predators were not the only danger; this place itself was treacherous. Alex's thoughts drifted to Grandpa Max. He had always spoken about being brave. Alex wondered if he would ever see those wonders or if he was doomed to face only its perils.

As he navigated through the dense foliage, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. He glanced over his shoulder, half expecting to see another beast. Instead, he saw nothing but the swaying trees and dancing shadows. His mind was playing tricks on him, he thought, but he couldn't afford to ignore his instincts.

After what felt like hours, Alex finally reached the waterfall. The cascading waterfalls at the rock, provide a natural barrier against the forest's noises. He knelt beside the water where water was filled, cupping his hands and drinking deeply. The cool water soothed his parched throat and refreshed his weary body.

Alex jumped into the small river made by the waterfall and swam and reached under the waterfall where he found a small cave Alex checked the surroundings and found no one seeing safe he went inside with a small boulder blocking the entrance. He took a deep breath Alex had forced himself to the limit as soon his head touched the ground Alex drifted to sleep.
