Chapter 57 - Am I Still Dreaming

Time flew by, and it was already the next day. The morning sun rose to bring warmth to the world.

In a deserted area, a blue circle of light suddenly appeared. Several people stepped out of it: it was Li Yue and the others, though Coulson wasn't with them.

Tony couldn't stand the environment of the quarantine site last night, so he asked Li Yue to bring the group back to the villa and rest. Coulson was responsible for the quarantine site, so he stayed.

The group returned to New Mexico because Li Yue said there would be something interesting to see today. Tony would never miss anything that Li Yue had deemed 'interesting,' and Captain America and Natasha followed along because they had nothing better to do.

Of note, Captain America brought his shield. He felt that a good battle was coming, and Captain America obviously wouldn't just stand by and watch.

"Good morning, Captain, you are here!"

Coulson came out of the fortification to welcome the group—though he only greeted the Captain. He was indeed Captain America's greatest fan.

"Good morning, Coulson!"

"Alright, enough with the chit-chat. How is Thor?" Tony interrupted rudely.

"We increased the security around him after Loki's appearance last night, but they didn't catch anything yet. However, for some reason, Thor seems very downcast. He didn't even leave his chair for the rest of the night."

Li Yue recalled about Loki, who appeared on the site last night. That God of Mischief must have deceived Thor with lies about Odin's passing.

Thor, foolish and naive as he was, trusted Loki's words. He thought that his recklessness had caused Odin's anger and death.

"Let's go meet him," Li Yue decided.

Coulson didn't object and brought the group back to the interrogation room.

Thor that they met was even deeper in depression than the one they met last night.

"Thor, Thor! What happened to you?" Li Yue asked as he shook Thor's shoulders.

"Oh, it's you. My father died. Because of me. I can never forgive myself," Thor replied slowly, his eyes red. His voice was full of sadness and regret: this was the first time that he truly regretted his actions.

"You were deceived. Your father is not dead yet."

Thor suddenly raised his head and looked at Li Yue in surprise, but then he lowered his face again.

"No. You don't even know my father. And my brother told me himself. He might be mischievous, but I trust that he would never lie about this kind of thing."

Li Yue facepalmed and sighed. This silly, gullible idiot!

At this time, an agent knocked on the door and came in, whispering a few words in Coulson's ear.

"Mr. Li Yue, someone had arrived to see him," Coulson said to Li Yue.

"Right on time! Hand Thor to them!"

"But..."

"Trust me, you're not going to get any valuable information by keeping him here. Also, I suggest evacuating the civilians in the town. War is coming."

...

In the end, Coulson obediently trusted Li Yue and lets Jane and the old doctor take the soulless Thor away, with two agents tailing them.

He also sent agents to quietly evacuate the town.

A few hours later, not far from the town, a strange weather anomaly occurred. A beam of light shot down from the sky, etching a special symbol on the ground.

As the light faded, four people in strange clothing emerged. They headed straight to the town.

Coulson received a report about these events from the agents that tailed Thor and relayed it to Li Yue's group.

"Mr. Li Yue, do you know of these four people in strange clothes?"

"They are Asgardians—Thor's friends. They have come to look for Thor. Let's watch them; it should be interesting," Li Yue replied.

Li Yue then opened a portal to the town, with Tony and the others following closely behind—except, once again, Coulson. He instead led the agents to investigate the energy fluctuations they had detected.

...

The three warriors of Asgard and Sif found Thor not long after arriving on Earth. Thor was initially happy to see them, but he then asked in confusion, "Why are you here?"

"We are here to pick you up!" The four replied with a big smile on their face.

"No, I can't go back. Father died because of me. I have no right to go back to Asgard."

The smile on Thor's face disappeared. A sad expression replaced it.

"What? Your father is not dead! He is just sleeping!"

"My father is not dead? But Loki said... Loki! You lying bastard!"

Thor was shocked by this revelation, but the shock quickly turned into anger. Loki had just played him again.

"I already told you that your father was not dead. You just didn't believe me, you silly buffoon!" Li Yue complained internally. He had teleported in a short while before the scene played out.

...

Jane, Daisy, and Dr. Selvig just had their worldview shattered. Four people in strange people had suddenly appeared, claiming to be Thor's friends and were here to bring Thor back. Could it be that Thor was really the God of Thunder?

Before they could fully process this revelation, another unforgettable phenomenon occurred in front of them. A blue glowing circle suddenly appeared from thin air, and several people walked out of it before the circle disappeared.

The group was composed of firmly materialistic scientists. The supernatural phenomena that happened one after another made them question whether they were still dreaming.

Daisy was the first to shake off her surprise. Her eyes lit up when she recognized someone in the group that just arrived; she was his big fan!

"Wow, that's Mr. Tony Stark, the superhero Iron Man! I can't believe I would see him here! I should go ask for an autograph," Daisy exclaimed, returning Jane and Dr. Selvig to their senses.

Tony was already popular even before becoming a superhero and made the fact public. It wasn't surprising that Daisy was a fan of his.

After Tony noticed Daisy, he immediately put on a smile and changed his demeanor.

Unfortunately, Tony's switch to professional mode was eclipsed by the sudden change in the weather just outside the town!

"Who else is coming?" Thor asked his four friends after noticing the weather anomaly.

The four of them shook their heads; they had no idea.

"Let's get closer and take a look!" Li Yue laughed. He made another blue portal and stepped in without hesitation.

It seemed that Li Yue had been getting lazier since getting this power. The distance was close enough to walk, but he chose to teleport instead.

As Li Yue and the others walked into the circle of light, Thor finally reacted. He hurriedly called the three warriors and Sif to enter the circle of light. He had been staring at the portal curiously, but due to their culture, Asgardians had an easier time suspending their disbelief.

"Am I dreaming?" Dr. Selvig said in a trance, his tone full of disbelief. What happened today had left a psychological scar on the man that had always believed in science.

"Let's go take a look too!"

Daisy had the least understanding, and thus attachment, to the scientific understanding of the universe. She was more curious than shocked by the circle of light, so she was the first to walk straight into it. Jane followed her, half-dragging the dazed doctor.

The circle of light seemed like it had a mind of its own. It automatically shrank and disappeared after everyone went in.
