I felt really awkward as I stood in front of the tower on the day we were meant to meet up. I basically ran away like a child from Mat the other day.
I was such a complete mess that I would feel sorry for anyone I helped based on my experiences from before. Not that anything I remembered would be useful by this point.
"I'm such an idiot."
"Me, too."
I jumped at the sudden voice beside me, and I realized Mat had been standing beside me. How do I miss someone so tall?
"When did you get h-here?"
My voice sounded flustered despite my efforts to calm myself. I really need to work on this confidence thing.
"Just now. Callie texted and said she would be late."
I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and a text from Callie was in my notifications. I guess I was so wrapped up in my thoughts I hadn't noticed it.
"Oh… I guess I turned my phone on silent."
"I see."
