Chapter 27 - Eulise's first battle I

*Eulise's POV*

There were only 7 Goblin Warrior but what caught Eulise's attention was the goblin that looked old and wore a much more nicer clothes than the rest of the goblins and carried a staff.

Just looking at him gave him a bad feeling and he knew to trust his gut.

Given how close the army was to the goblin village it wouldn't take the too long for them to be discovered by a goblin scout.

These goblins definitely weren't as easy to kill as those ones in games that had virtually no fighting power. After examining them closely, Eulise found that their fighting power was quite decent given their hunts.

Eulise thought for a while with a serious expression on his face before returning to his troops.

"For now we retreat further away from their village" He ordered. Given the fact that the mission was supposed to be stealthy none of them reply but simply retreated as told.

After getting to a safe distance the soldiers set up a camp and eat grains for meal while making sure not to alert the enemies of their presence by starting a fire or loud noises.

After giving orders to his second in command, Emma on how to proceed he returned to spying on the enemies again.

Eulise hid in some tall grass on a hill and was looking down at the Goblin Village, searching for any weakness. If they engaged in a direct confrontation, it would be a straight victory but with causalities and this was something that Eulise wanted to avoid especially for his first battle and such small scale too.

Time gradually passed, and soon, the sunset and part of the sky was dyed red. At this moment, Emma brought some soldiers to come find him.

Eulise sighed. After observing for so long, he hadn't found anything that he could exploit. However, he learned some things about the Goblins.

First, their intelligence was not very high, and they loved to fight. The walls of their buildings were very weak and could collapse at any time.

It was about to get dark, so Eulise could only return, leaving 2 people there to stand guard.

He had considered a night attack, but given how weak those building were it wasn't far fetched that there could be accident.

Even if he was been over-paranoid he didn't want to make mistake besides there would definitely be causalities since he couldn't instant kill seven peak rank 2 goblins with the old goblin around who was definitely rank 3.

As a result, Eulise did not sleep very well. The next day, just as he stood up to go back to his spying, one of the soldiers he had left behind last night to keep watch came to report and said, "General! The Goblins have started to move."

Eulise quickly asked for more details. He learned that the Goblin village's soldiers had split into several groups, with about 10 Goblins in each group, and they headed in several separate directions.

After the soldier reported this, Eulise felt that an opportunity had come. He realized that since the Goblins were not very smart this meant they didn't store food in warehouses but they relied mostly on hunting to obtain food which meant Goblins went out hunting every day to make sure that they had enough to eat.

"Emma! Hurry and assemble everyone!" Eulise immediately ordered his second in command.

Following this, 1000 soldiers were gathered in front of Eulise.

"Each team captain are going to lead their team individually to eliminate goblins but if the goblins are more than you are group up with other teams to take them out."

Once Eulise finished explaining his plan, the soldiers moved out in different directions to eliminate the goblins.

Eulise also moved out with 2 teams and it didn't take long for them to spot a goblin group.

(Each team has one captain and nine soldiers)

There were roughly 50 Goblins in this group, and it was led by a Goblin Warrior.

At this moment, Eulise showed the results of his battle strategies and formation training. What followed was a true battle, not a disorderly brawl.

Eulise ordered the soldiers into three lines: Shield bearers at the first line, Infantry at the second line, and Archers at the third line. This was the most basic formation.

"Soldiers you have just finished your training recently, so I don't expect you to kill someone with every arrow. Just make sure you hit them; aim for the largest parts of their bodies," Eulise said to them in a low voice before giving the signal to the archers to shoot.

Following this, the Archers raised their bows, and arrows shot out into the group of Goblins. Eulise also threw his axe with them, sending it shooting towards the Goblin warrior.

The eight Archers all hit a Goblin. Three of them received light injuries, four received heavy injuries, and one unfortunate Goblin was killed on the spot.

Eulise's double edged axe also hit the goblin warrior killing him instantly before moving on to injure 5 or 6 Goblins. One was also split in two by the axe.

At this moment, the Goblins also discovered them. They roared as they raised their sabers and rushed over.

All the soldiers faces didn't change at all when they saw several Goblins rushing towards them. The archers simply reloaded their bows with arrow while the shield bearer prepared for impact as they waited for their general's order.

"Release arrows!" Eulise once again bellowed, and eight arrows flew, shooting a few Goblins down. The Goblins were prepared this time, so not as many arrows hit the Goblins. Eulise didn't take action this time as he didn't see the reason to.

By now, the Goblins were nearly within 10 meters of them. Eulise yelled, "Shield bearers advance! Scatter their spirit! Infantry, follow right behind them!"

The 4 Shield bearers rushed up, colliding with the Goblins at the front. The Goblins chopped at their shields, leaving no marks and they were unable to injure anyone. Thus, the Goblins' momentum was greatly reduced.

A charge required a large spurt of energy, and only by continuously charging forwards could they maintain their momentum.

After being blocked by the Shield bearers, the Goblins lost not only their momentum but also their morale.

In the beginning, the arrows and axe had already reduced the Goblins' strength by almost two third especially with the death of their warrior and now that they had been stopped, the Shield bearers and Infantry started to counterattack.

The Archers behind them also freely shot as Eulise simply watched as he prepared to save any one of his soldiers in danger.

The situation quickly turned to Eulise's favor.

After a couple minutes, the battle finally concluded. None of Eulise's soldiers suffer any injury. On the other hand, the Goblins had been completely destroyed.

Without resting at all, Eulise picked up his axe before taking his soldiers to search for another Goblin group to eliminate.
