Chapter 56 - Looking around the Bookstore

"Sorry it took me so long Becca."

I sat down next to her on the bench.

"It didn't take you too long. I just sat down a minute or two before you got here. It's more like perfect timing. The shaved ice hasn't melted yet, come have a taste."

Becca held the spoon out to feed me. I feed her before, so I had no problem with her feeding me back. I put the spoon full of shaved ice in my mouth. The fruit punch flavor was exactly like how it was in my world, so I enjoyed it a lot.

The cup with shaved ice in Becca's hand actually was half red and half yellow. I was curious, "what flavor did you choose Becca?"

"The fruit punch flavor is too sweet for me to eat more than a few bites, so I got half lemon flavor. The sourness makes it much more palatable for me."

"I see, can I have a taste?"

Becca took the spoon from the lemon half and let me have a try. It definitely was sour. It made my face scrunch up a little. I couldn't eat more than a few bites of the lemon flavor myself. I noticed that Becca was sharing her spoon with me no problem. I was a little worried she might not want an indirect kiss, but maybe it was a concept that only existed my world. In the first place, I had shared an indirect kiss with plenty of girls before. It doesn't bother me one bit anymore, so I wouldn't mind if it didn't bother Becca.

As I was thinking this, I noticed Becca was blankly staring at her spoon instead of continuing to eat.

I decided to act oblivious, "what's wrong Becca? Are you not hungry anymore?"

Becca laughed awkwardly, "hmm…it's not that. I just realized something, but don't worry I'll finish my side…"

Becca slowly took a spoon full of the lemon flavor and hesitated as it came up to her mouth.

I leaned in closer to her and whispered, "don't worry about it now. We will be sharing plenty of saliva in the future anyways."

Becca's shoulder raised up and her face become red as she realized she had been caught.

She whispered, "shut up…", and quickly put the spoon in her mouth.

After she swallowed the shaved ice in her mouth, she complained, "I feel like I'm in the palm of your hand…"

I laughed it off, "it looks like we are both predicable in our own ways."

Becca stuck her tongue out at me playfully. It was stained yellow from the shaved ice she was eating. I stuck my tongue out as well to show my bright red tongue. After a moment of looking each other in the eyes with our tongues sticked out, we both cracked up laughing. The awkwardness from the indirect kiss had passed for Becca and we were back to enjoying our time together.

After we finished up, we walked a little while longer and reached the bookstore. Inside, there were many signs pointing us to the Tanya Walker book signing. We walked towards the middle of the store. In an open seating area, Tanya had a table set up at the corner for people to come and talk to her. At the moment, the line was long with about 20 people already waiting.

"Hey Becca, how about we enjoy the bookstore together and come back here once the line is a little shorter? I need to ask her about journalism, so we are going to take more time than the usual fan. I might even have to reveal my identity to her to get her to cooperate, so we should talk to her when there is not too many people around."

"Sounds good to me. What section do you want to go to first?"

"You lead the way to the books you like. I'll stop and look at a book if it catches my eye."

"Alright, the mysteries are this way."

While we were walking to the mystery section, I found some heroic stories that looked interesting, so I told Becca to go on ahead while I pick out a few that looked good.

It's funny because a heroic story with magic is not considered a fantasy in this world full of magic. I picked out 3 that looked interesting and made my way over to the mystery section.

When I got there, I saw Becca looking at some of the books on the top shelf. The situation she was in gave me a great idea, so I hide to the side and waited for the perfect opportunity. Eventually, she got on her tip toes and tried to reach up for one of the books. It was the time to strike, so I teleported behind her and reached up to help grab the book for her.

When I went to grab the book, I leaned over and my chest touched her back. This event was something I had seen in countless romcoms in my old life, so I had to give it a try at least once in my life. It was very cute and I could feel the warmth coming from Becca even through the cloak I was wearing.

However, Becca was not as happy at the moment. She stated in a harsh voice, "get away from me right now."

I pulled back and quickly apologized, "I'm so sorry Becca, I didn't mean to scare you."

Once Becca heard my voice, she quickly turned around and her eyes showed how shocked she was.

"Nick! Oh my gosh! You scared me! I thought you were a stranger who was getting way too close to me."

I could see how my sudden teleportation could lead to that confusion.

"I'm sorry honey, I just wanted to help you get the book. I didn't realize I would scare you."

Sadly, everything doesn't turn out as good as the romcom novels. After my failed attempt, we grabbed the few books we wanted and headed back to the seating area where Tanya Walker was talking to readers. There were still 10 people waiting in line, so we took a seat and started to read the books we had in the meantime.
