As we were walking to the restaurant Becca wanted to take me to, I was curious about one thing. "Didn't you say that your favorite food was skewers you get from a stand?"
Becca leaned in closer to me and smiled. "You remembered? Well, the specific stand I was talking about only puts up a stand during festivals. The rest of the year, they have a restaurant where they sell their food. The stand is more for advertising. I guess it worked because I tried their skewers one day and now I go to their restaurant every time I'm in the capital haha."
"So when is the next festival? It would be fun to go together. I remember it's one of the things you told me you wanted to do."
"The Duchy always holds a week long celebration for the start of summer. It should take place in about 3 months. It consists of multiple events like: a festival in the capital, a ball for the nobles, a hunting competition, and a lot of other fun things."
"Wow, since it's our first time setting it up as Duke and Duchess, let's make it the best one yet."
Becca laughed at my enthusiasm, "I'm sure James will be happy about that. With the original Nicolas, James had to do all the work, while Nicolas spent the whole week getting drunk and playing with women."
"Haha, yeah I'm very different. I already have a ton of ideas for ways to use my knowledge of my old life to make this celebration extra fun. The only problem is 3 months isn't a lot of time!"
Becca patted my back. "You don't have to make it perfect the first time. We will be planning it every year for many years to come, so we can make it a little better each time."
Becca words made me feel warm inside. We had a long future ahead of us. "You're right, Becca. We don't need to plan the perfect celebration until the time our children are old enough to enjoy it."
Becca's face instantly turned flush from my surprise attack. "That is still a long ways away!"
I reached over and lightly pinched her cheek. "Yes, I know, but it will happen eventually."
Becca turned her head away from me and tried her best to play it off. "Only because we have to make an heir no matter what."
I leaned and whispered in her ear, "I don't know…I can picture a future where you are begging me to put a baby in you."
Becca quickly ran ahead of me and pointed at a building near by. "That's the restaurant I was talking about. Let's go!"
I slowly followed her as I looked at her bright red ears in the distance. By the time I entered the restaurant, Becca was waving to me at a table for two. From the outside, the restaurant looked like a simple rectangular brick building. However, the moment I walked inside, the delicious fragrance of grilled meat made my mouth water. There were various tables for parties of 2 to 8. The place was packed for the lunch rush. The restaurant was full of laughter and good vibes. It reminded me of a bar & grill from my world. I used to come to this type of restaurant with my buddies in college to have a few beers and have good time. It seemed like the perfect place to have a fun time with Becca on our date.
I walked over to the table Becca was sitting at and sat across from her. "I'm surprised you got a table so fast."
"Most people come in a group, so the two seater tables are usually available."
"Oh I see, this place really is lively! Haha"
"It's usually too loud for me, but I can't stay away when the skewers are so good."
That's right, Becca is an introvert, so she doesn't like energetic strangers. But I'm also a home body and I enjoyed it a lot with my friends. It's probably because I was there with people I knew, while Becca would probably come here alone to get a quick bite to eat. Since I'm here, I'll make sure she has a good time.
I reached out my hand and placed it on top of hers. "Leave the outside noise in the background and focus on me. I'm sure we can have a great time even in this atmosphere."
"Thanks Nick, usually I came here alone or with a body guard who wouldn't talk to me at all, so it was boring."
I used my other hand to look at the menu. "Do you want to drink a few beers with me?"
"I didn't know you liked to drink…in that case, I'll try to keep up with you, but I'm a light drinker…"
I shook my head, "At a bar I like to drink a few beers to get a little buzz, but you don't have to keep up with me. We still have more stuff to do after this, so don't get too drunk."
"Ok, I'll just have one because I want to drink with you."
"Sounds good."
I called over to a waiter and ordered a couple of beers for us. "Should I order the skewer already? Is there anything else you like to get here like sides?"
"They also have really good grilled corn. They both come out pretty fast, so let's just start with the drinks for now. They usually bring a bowl of nuts to snack on when you order beer. We can snack on those and talk for a while before getting to the main course. Unless you are really hungry."
"No, that's fine with me. I'm actually excited because grilled corn is one of my favorites. In my world, it's a special dish called elote."
After I finished up the order with the waiter, they came back a few minutes later with the beers and they also brought along a bowl full of almonds. They placed everything down on the table and walked off before I could say anything.
