Aylin watched as the carriage rode through the gates, into the Duke's mansion. The carriage came to a stop and Trevor, who had gotten down from his horse, came to stand beside the coachman as he opened the doors of the carriage and held out his hand for Aylin.
Aylin, with a blank expression, stepped out of the carriage with the help of the coachman and whispered a 'Thank you' to him before walking to the mansion's entrance.
As she passed by guards and servants of the mansion, her mouth remained shut, not once answering their greetings.
The air around her felt odd, the servants noticed but didn't dare say anything.
"My Lady, You're back!" Dahlia's delighted voice rang through the halls as soon as she spotted Aylin making her way to the stairs leading to the second floor.
Aylin glanced toward Dahlia and managed a faint smile. "Yes, Dahlia, I have returned," she replied softly. Her voice carried a hint of weariness.
