Chereads / The Last Takien / Chapter 3 - CHAPTER ONE

Chapter 3 - CHAPTER ONE

Ryu's POV

The sky was lovely and the sun shone bright in the sky. The salty sea breeze attacked my nostrils as I inhaled deeply. I was very excited and happy. I was finally going back to my home town after 10 years of college and service. For the past 10 years I've worked hard trying to become someone. I wanted the name Ryu Crystiane to send shivers down the spine of bad guys out there. If there was anything I wanted so badly since I was a child was to be the world's most greatest cop but as any other child I found out as I grew up that life wasn't a bed of roses. it was harsh and you couldn't always get what you wanted but who am I kidding I'm no quitter so right after senior year at the age of eighteen I applied for a police academy at new York and luckily I got admitted and on a boat just like this into a new world...

The boat just docked in close to the fishermen's docks at the shore. 'Things didn't really change much around here huh', I thought to myself as I half dragged half carried my luggage down the descending steps of the boat as I tried to take in the scenery. Making my way down, the steps wobbled a little which threw me off balance a little but a sailor at my back gripped my shoulders with one hand and my luggage with the other.

"Careful ma'am", he said as he clambered down the steps ahead of me then setting my luggage down gently on the dock.

"Thank you", I said as I stopped right next to him and grabbed my luggage.

"My pleasure ma'am", he said as he tipped his hat then turned around and walked away.

. . .

I hailed a taxi, kept my luggage in the back seat then got in. I gave the taxi man the address to my gamma's house and I laid back to admire the view of my old town. Everything was pretty much the same. From the old willow tree by the community park and the school that came after to the old library not too far from the baker's shop. As we went deeper into town the taximan struck up a conversation with me.

"New in this town ma'am", he said with a local accent as he looked through the rearview mirror to get a glimpse of me. As his brown eyes met my purple ones he gasped in surprise.

"Not exactly a newcomer more of a local", I replied with a much more thicker accent, the I saw him smile through the mirror.

"Spoken like a true taik", he said as he drove with his eyes glued to the road.

"My town is called little taaikk. it's very unpopular and other countries have zero to no idea about it. it's pretty much lowkey. My town is like one huge circle where everyone knows each other. we rarely have newcomers in town only newborns.

I grew up here, developed and followed my dreams and I'm back home fulfilled. It's feels just like yesterday when I was down at the docks with the whole town there to see me off with my Gamma right in front.

Flashback

"Ryu goodbye make sure you come back successful," shouted the whole town in succession as they waved at me.

"My little one," my Gamma said as she outstretched her arms slowly. I ran towards her arms, enclosing myself in a warm hug.

"My little one Ryu," my Gamma croaked out as she teared up.

"Oh no, Gamma don't cry," I said as I hugged her tightly in my arms.

"Live well for this old lady and fulfill all your dreams little one," she said as she patted my back gently.

"I'm gonna miss you a lot Gamma," I said as I cried in her arms letting out painful sobs. I've never gone somewhere far from my Gamma before and this made leaving so painful.

"It will be fine okay, so stop crying," She said as she wiped my tears with her shawl carefully with love flowing through her actions. Then she gave me a soft and warm kiss on my forehead while placing a small pouch on the palm of my hand.

"Gamma what is this for," looking at the strange looking pouch in my hands I asked in a soft voice filled with confusion.

"Some pocket money I gathered, nothing much really," She really makes it harder to leave, I thought as I looked at her with appreciation.

"You should go the boats leaving," she said as she pointed at the boat. I looked at her one last time trying to engrave her deeply in my memory then I turned, heading towards the boat.

Standing at the edge of the boat, I waved farewell at the town I grew up in as the boat slowly drifted away.

"Bye, I love you all," I yelled with all my might as the boat drifted further away from the town.

Flashback ends

It felt just like yesterday when this all happened and now today I'm back a proud detective of the crime division.

Bringing me out of my thoughts I realized the taxi stopped. Looking out of the window stood a house I could never be more familiar with.

Third person's POV

In front of a huge house were some kids probably around the ages of eleven to twelve playing. While they played a bright yellow taxi pulled up right in front of the house causing the kids to stop their games as they stared at the taxi. The door of the backseat opened as a lady with silver hair stepped out.

She brought out a black luggage from the taxi and placed it on the ground. The lady wore a thick brown coat over a cotton shirt and skinny jeans complimented with a pair of white sneakers. She had a huge frame of sunglasses on which shielded her eyes from the afternoon sun.

She closed the taxi door behind her, not forgetting to pay the taxi man as she picked up her luggage and headed towards the house.

One of the kids looked at the approaching lady with confusion in her eyes, as the lady got closer the confusion in her eyes morphed slowly into clarity.

"Hey everyone, it's Ryu," the little girl shouted as she pointed to the approaching lady. Her words triggered the others as they rushed towards the lady with excitement.

"Ryu!!!" the kids yelled as they jumped on the lady sending her crashing down as she fell backwards.

"hey, careful now. You don't want to ruin the gifts i brought for you all do you," the lady said as she tried to get back up. her words caused the kids to scrambled off her body as they didn't want to ruin their gifts.

"thanks," the lady said as she got up patting imaginary dust off her body before reaching into her luggage.

She brought out a bag of chocolates and gave it to the nearest kid by her. Without waiting to see their reaction, she headed to the front door of the large house.

She brought up her hands to the doorbell when the door opened suddenly from the inside.

"Ryu," a old woman stood at the entrance while looking at the young lady with affection swimming in her eyes.

"I'm back, Gamma," the young lady said as she opened her arms and engulfed the old lady in a heartwarming embrace.

"Kids, go announce in the village my Ryu is back. we must have a celebration," holding her granddaughter's hands the old lady said to the kids as she led the young lady inside.

. . .

Ryu's POV

After the heartwarming reunion with my Gamma I wasn't able to settle in before being whisked off to a feast held at the town square in my honor. I still can believe they set up a feast that fast, like It was just twenty minutes ago that I returned.

Gamma made me sit next to her where everyone could see me clearly. I wasn't able to stay still though because everyone kept on coming over to say a word or two.

When everyone had finished their pleasantries, Gamma stood up from her seat to make a toast.

"I appreciate you all for coming over to celebrate Ryu coming back home to us. I am so happy to see you all care about her as much as I do and this is specially for you Ryu, just keep on being happy because that makes us all happy. To wrap it all up, everyone please enjoy the feast."

This earned cheers from the whole village as the celebrations began. Deep into the celebrations the sun began setting. Nightfall won't be far behind.

"Ryu," my Gamma called me softly to gain my attention amidst the cheers.

"Hmm, is there a problem gamma," I asked as I looked at her.

"No not really, I want to get something from the house will you be fine here alone," she asked as she stood to her feet.

"yeah I'll be fine."

"I won't be long," she said as she slowly made her way out of the feast and into the town. I don't know but as I watched her back fade into the distance I had a bad feeling about this and my bad feelings are never wrong.

. . .

It has been an hour since Gamma left what is taking her so long, I thought to myself as I sipped the wine in my goblet slowly. After waiting for a while I stood up deciding to go home and check up on gamma. I was still telling some of the elders around goodbye when a huge explosion rang out causing shouts of panic as everyone crouched down in fear.

Standing up I felt my blood turn cold, the explosion came from the village my Gamma is in there. I was heading towards the village when one of the elders held my hand.

"Ryu, where are you going, it might be dangerous."

"Gamma is in there I have to go," I said as I removed the elder's hand slowly from mine then I ran as fast as I could into the village towards Gamma's house.

. . .

Getting into the village there was fire everywhere. What could have happened, I thought as I walked stealthily further into the village. I don't know but this feels like an attack. My suspicions were confirmed as I spotted dead bodies and blood everywhere with weapons still jutting out of their corpses. What is going on.

Getting closer to the house I spotted a woman in armor across the street. She turned revealing a skull with flames for eyes. She dragged a man who I recognized to be the taxi man this morning across the ground. she drew out a long spear and thrusted it right into his skull.

Witnessing such a gruesome murder I let out a gasp in fear. The armored skeleton stopped as it turned and started moving In my direction.

Looking at the house up close I broke into a sprint. Luckily the front door was open so I ran right in and shut the door close behind me. Not waiting to catch a breath I rushed upstairs towards my Gamma's room. Meeting the door open I walked in to see my gamma dangling in the air as one of those skeleton monsters strangled her. Thinking fast I grabbed a wooden chair in the corner and hurled it right at the back of that monster.

Good news it lost it's grip on my Gamma, bad news it rushed at me with inhumane speed and sent me crashing painfully against the wall with a grip on my neck. Seeing black spots in my vision. I saw my Gamma point her umbrella at the monster which got obliterated by a huge ball of purple flame. If things couldn't get more crazier I swore I saw that flame come out of my Gamma's umbrella.

Landing on the floor in a thud after the monster lost it's grip on me, I watched it turn into ashes before my very eyes. looking across the room I saw my gamma cough out a mouthful of blood as she fell to the ground weakly.

"gamma," I yelled as I ran to her side I worry.

"Ryuika, hurry you must leave," she said as she shoved a black luggage in my arms and her umbrella.

"Gamma, what's happening," I asked as I watched her take off her cloak she always wore.

"Ryu put this on quickly, it will protect you," she said as she wrapped it around me fixing the clasp.

" what do you mean Gamma."

"Ryu put on my cloak now!," she said sternly. I was about to refuse but then I saw this look of urgency in her eyes so I just fixed in my arms properly.

"now listen to me, every story I've told you when you were a child is real,"

"what nonsense are you spouting gamma, we have to leave."

"most importantly you are a takien Ryu, you must not reveal your eyes to anyone."

"Gamma what do mean.."i was saying when we heard a crash, and it came from below.

"Nature is your territory, the forest your kingdom, the animals your soldiers..."she started off saying as her eyes started to glow.

"ci an miat ki pa," she then said as I felt my surroundings warp then suddenly the door slammed open, a monster appeared then it threw a spear right at me. I froze in fear but surprisingly the spear passed right through me but it went right through my gamma. Before the surroundings changed completely I heard a faint I love you.

. . .

Third Person's POV

In a thick forest surrounded by trees a figure in a black cloak appeared out of nowhere with a black luggage and an umbrella. The figure looked up to the moon. Under the illumination of the moonlight a fair face with long silver hair and purple eyes was revealed under the hood of the cloak. Streams of tears flowed steadily from her eyes as she let out a scream filled of grief and sorrow.

"Gamma!!!."
