Chereads / THE WARD / Chapter 220 - Twenty eight

Chapter 220 - Twenty eight

First thing in the morning I'm in for a rude awakening.

My bedroom door flies open, and Ava rushes towards the bed and aggressively yanks the covers off the bed, throws them on the floor and proceeds to stomp them very much like a mad woman. Or a vicious one. I can't decide. Right, this is where I am in dire need of alcohol. I can't face Ava while I'm sober. She is small but she behaves as if she is seven feet tall, and all mighty.

" How dare you," She seethes, pointing an accusatory finger at me, wearing a sinister sneer on her mignon features. I have to say that I thought she would be really cute when she is angry. She is not.

" Ava you need to calm down," That phrase never works. I don't know why I even bother.

" Get the hell out of my house. You're not welcome here, in case you didn't get the message," She is taking things a touch too far, and I'm not going to take this lying down.

" First thing first. This is not your house. You don't even live here. Secondly, as far as I know, I have been invited and welcomed in this house long before you and Mason were a thing, " I push myself off the bed and settle on the edge, while Ava watches me like a rabid animal," I don't know what power you think you have in this house but you are mistaken. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get ready for the day," I stand up, and she rushes towards me, probably ready to tackle me to the ground. Ava is on a war path, and nothing I say will make a difference.

She stops a few paces in front of me, still very much infuriated, nothing short of frothing at the mouth, " You think you can sway your hips in front of him as you did before? I know what you did. I know women like you. You're nothing more than just a whore. Just like those women who paraded in and out of this house for years. He has chosen me. Not you. You're not welcome in this house. Mason is mine and mine alone,"

Ava has turned bright red during her little speech, and I can't say I didn't see it coming. I'm merely surprised that she waited this long to make an appearance and throw it into my face.

Credit must be given, where credit is due. She is defending her relationship with Mason fiercely. Something, I have never done. She is fighting like I never did. It is a sad realisation but doesn't make it any less true.

No matter the circumstances of how, when and where, she is rising to the challenge.

" Look, I don't know what you think is happening but I can tell that is not what you think it is. But rest assured that nothing is happening between Mason and me. As far as your other allegations are concerned, I personally don't give a toss what you think of me. If slandering me makes you feel better and more important, go ahead. I won't stop you. Now, like I said I'm going to have a shower, and you better not be in this room when I come out," There is a tinge of irritation that I can't keep out of my voice. To a certain extent, all that I said was true. But also a lie. It's a very fine line, but I'm willing to walk it now more than ever, considering our little tete-a-tete.

When I move past Ava, she lunges towards me, grabs s fistful of my hair, and yanks me sideways. My instincts kick in, and I grab her hand, risking losing a lock of hair in the process but the girl needs to be taught a lesson. If she wants to fight she has picked the wrong person to do with.

As soon I twist her tiny wrist she lets go of my hair and raises her foot to kick in the stomach, using me as leverage. When her foot is high enough in the air, I nudge her back a little, Ava loses her footing and lands on her ass on the floor with a thud.

Infuriated, Ava scrambles to her feet and lunges for me once again, but her petite figure is her disadvantage, I place my palm on her forehead and tilt myself in such ways that she can't reach me with her frantic swings. If anything, this is the easiest and yet most humorous fight I've ever been into since forever.

" Ava," Mason's voice booms in the room making Ava relent in her attempt to hurt me," That's quite enough, now," Mason sternly says as he strolls inside the room, a picture of calm and composure.

Slowly, I take my hand off Ava's forehead, she smoothenes her features turning from crazed, to an innocent, and victimised party in this whole affair.

" She attacked me, Mason," Ava says in a small voice sweetly, batting her eyelashes at Mason and I can't help myself from rolling my eyes at them.

Mason's gaze turns on me, and I can't help myself then heave out a heavy sigh. I don't need this in my life. I don't need the headache or the heartache.

" Is that so," Mason hums, quirking a suspicious brow at Ava.

" Mhm...I just came to say hello and be a good host to our guest and she just went crazy," Ava says in her signature squeaky voice while climbing Mason like he is a fucking tree. Hands all over his chest, arms and face. And I can't keep the pang of jealousy at bay at the sight.

" Is that true, Miss Abernathy?" That question makes me laugh. He can't be serious? After a second of silence on his part I realise that he wants to hear my side of the story.

" Believe what you want. I am going to have a shower and then head back to the academy. Have a good day Mr Kinnaird, " I say mockingly, walk into the bathroom and lock the door behind. I hear Ava simpering and snivelling from behind the other side of the door but I couldn't care less what she is saying to Mason.

As soon as I turn on the shower, their voices fade and eventually disappear altogether. I rush through my morning routine, not wanting to be in the house longer than is necessary.

The nerve on that girl is unbelievable. I might have held it together while we were quarrelling but after a few moments, I'm seething over what happened in that room. I'm seething because Mason didn't even hesitate to question me.
