Today is just a beautiful day. February 20, 2023. Monday.
Inside the classroom of Class D, Year 2, Hans is having a blast as he converses with his fellow classmates. He is not much of a conversationalist, but the way he mixes up with his friends is just so masterful they will not even think he is not the same 'Hans' anymore.
"Hey, Hans, it is a long weekend, huh? Did you watch the latest romance flick?"
"Nah, I have no time. I am busy, ha ha ha…"
Several boys gather into a small group as they noisily share what they did in the long week of no classes. They share their experiences on how they wisely spend their time from Valentine's Day to the rest of the week.
"I have no luck, I didn't awaken…"
"I awakened, so worship me, you poor kids!"
"Yeah, boast all you want!"
Hans boasts to them the Geass in his right eye, and just like that, the boys continue to devolve into more mayhem.
"Which girl did had a fancy on you?"
"Woah, I am envious of you…"
"You are reaching high places, pal."
After pulling an all-nighter, Hans reviews the many chat conversations the prior Hans had with his fellow classmates. In a stroke of luck, Hans is able to open the old Hans's social media account as it seems the Hans of this world and him in his past life uses actually the same email and password.
There is a reason why Hans is so desperate to study 'himself' not just his identity, but also the relationships around him. It is because this world has a supernatural element, and that cases of 'soul possession' or even 'transmigration' can be a hot subject for the mages of this world.
If his secrets get found out, Hans cannot even imagine what will become of him. He can claim that he has amnesia, but that won't last for a long time as a lie all thanks to his Geass Restriction. Speaking of Geass Restriction, Hans's second Geass has only one— "The longer you gaze at a woman, the more love hormones (oxytocin) will rush into your system." And because of this, Hans' behavior is more out of line with the past. In particular, he avoids looking at the girls in his class.
"Hey, Hans, why are you avoiding me? Why can you not look at me? You bastard!" A girl about his age looks at him in contempt.
Hans glances at her, she is his bully, Claudia Cinders. The funny thing is… she is one of the few main villains of the novel. She has red hair, a maturing body, and dangerously fiery orange eyes that seem to be always angry.
"They just keep on flocking, huh?" Hans whispers to himself.
"Excuse me? Just get your ass out here and hold this phone. If the picture ends up being ugly, I will kill you. Do you understand?"
Hans takes hold of her phone, and at her request, Hans obediently takes pictures of her by the window. After a session of picture-taking, Claudia taps Hans's shoulder. "You did great! I see that you have a Geass now. In the Magic Academy, I will let you have the honor to continue being my slave."
It is annoying, but Hans has to persist in not breaking character. If Hans is to 'change' someday, it is not today. At least, after a vacation, or maybe slowly accumulate the change.
"Yes, ma'am!" Hans flatteringly salutes Claudia.
"Now, get me some lunch!" Claudia orders Hans as she kicks him in the knee.
"Yes, ma'am!" Hans walks out limping.
Buying off the most expensive lunchbox, Hans picks one that has a saucy dish— some curry. Hans unceremoniously spits on the curry with a nasty grin and carefully mixes it with his finger.
"Ma'am, please accept this chicken curry to show my devoted love to you goddess!" Truly the simp way through and through. On one knee, Hans offers the curry to his goddess.
"Oho~ you are so kind. To buy me the most expensive lunchbox." Claudia happily eats her lunch. "Yum~"
In the following days, Hans continues to immerse himself in the routine. Answer assignments, feed the bully, feed the bodyguard, talk with friends, and do school stuff. It is truly a normal school life. Knowing that there are only two weeks more of enduring until vacation, Hans doesn't need to hurry but just takes things easy.
"Hey. You keep on buying me expensive lunches. And when it is lunch, I only see you eat bread, and sometimes, you don't even eat anything…" Claudia for some reason is feeling a semblance of guilt about Hans's lunches. Hans is treating her too well. Just why?
Meanwhile, Hans is nervously sweating. 'Am I too out of character?'
"Hey, why are you spacing out? You bastard! I am getting fat because you feed me too much!" Claudia's sudden outburst as she kicks Hans in his knee once more makes the class suddenly go quiet. Following the kick are some crispy slaps to the face. "Hey, hey... I am talking to you... Why are you avoiding my gaze, you bastard!"
Hans wryly smiles as he stands up from almost hitting the floor. "Ehehehe~" He dumbly laughs replicating the 'innocence' that Mira uses as camouflage.
Coming to intervene between the two is Darla, the nicest girl in the class, the same girl the past Hans makes his confession of love and chocolates. "Stop that, Claudia! This is not nice. He is feeding you food with his lunch money for the past two weeks. Class is about done, and vacation is almost upon us, yet you have to do this? Don't you feel bad for Hans?"
"Shut up, you smelly woman… Stop acting nice and all. He is a fucking masochist! Hans like it, so what? You don't have to meddle."
Does Hans like it? As if. Darla looks at the poor Hans who is smiling and laughing as if it doesn't concern him at all. "What are you talking about, Claudia? He has become an idiot because of your bullying!"
"Pfft…" Claudia snickers. "If you want, come and fight me." She threateningly raises her palm where her Geass lies. The Geass is in the shape of burning clouds. Flames dance around her palm dangerously.
Hans sighs at the sight of this. Darla after all is not a so simple character either. When Hans learns of who the 'nicest girl' in class actually is, he quickly comes to a realization that it must be talking about the best friend of the heroine. Next year, Mira should be enrolling in Holden High School, and from there, she will develop a friendship with Darla.
"Let's fight. Meet me at the school's rooftop after class is over." Darla accepts Claudia's provocation which is totally out of Claudia's expectation.
Hans doesn't want to see any of that. He just wants to live peacefully. He is too busy with 'other' things, and there are only a few more days until vacation. Without even entertaining the idea of watching the fight, Hans cautiously makes his retreat.
When class is over, Hans sneakily makes his escape while he carries the task of dumping the daily trash of the class. After dumping the garbage bag into the bin, Hans immediately runs off home.
Hans really has his priorities straight.
