Chapter 39 - 39: The enemy base

Only two people were guarding the room. But Olivier did not count this as lucky.

Both the assassin and the mage were lvl 200, the highest you could hit in this game. Plus, they both looked equipped to the max.

If Olivier was going to successfully pull off a key theft, he needed to make these two go out of the room for a minute.

And that would be impossible to do alone at his level.

{Boss Xiao, can you help me out? I am in front of the key room but an assassin and a mage are blocking my way. Do you think you can find a way to distract them so that I can reach the crystal?}

Olivier send this message and then he observed the opposite side's players. They both seemed unfamiliar to Olivier so he knew these people were not someone their guild had been keeping an eye on.

As a part of his contract with the Winded Gliding, Olivier was often in charge of scouting out talents and seeing if these people would be a good match for their team or not.

So, Olivier had trained himself to recognize players based on their behavior.

{Boss Xiao: You are in? How did you manage to do that? You are not hacking, right?}

Boss Xiao asked and Olivier felt ticked. Being asked if he hacked or not was funny only a few times. After that, it got repetitive and annoying.

{Controller: No, I am not hacking. I just have my ways to reach the key room faster. Now, are you going to help me out or not?}

Olivier asked the question. His message might have been in writing, but there was a sharpness to it that betrayed his annoyance.

Boss Xiao, who read this message flinched and took a deep breath. He needed to think about what his next course of action would be.

It was not as if Boss Xiao did not believe Controller when the kid said he was in the key room. Somehow, Boss Xiao was sure that the kid had found his way in.

The main question was - should he help the kid out? If Boss Xiao did that, then the whole plan he had come up with would go down in flames.

And if Controller ended up not taking control of the guild key, then helping him would be a detrimental decision made by the Boss.

'Should I help or not? Even if I do not help, we only need to kill a few more members of the other side to ensure a victory.'

In the end, Boss Xiao decided not to risk the ensured victory. He did not want to risk their guaranteed victory by acting on a kid's decision.

{Boss Xiao: Sorry kid, but I will not be able to help you out. You are on your own from here.}

Boss Xiao felt bad in his heart for the kid. But he also needed to harden his heart and face the future.

He did not only have a Controller to look after. He also had his guild who was counting on him to win this guild war.

......…..

Somehow, Olivier could not bring himself to feel disappointed for more than a minute.

It did stink that the boss did not trust him enough to help Olivier out. But Olivier also understood his decision.

'Now then, what should I do? Should I back down? Nah, that will not be fun.'

It was going to be a 2-vs-1. Olivier would be at a huge disadvantage and he might even be killed off going against two lvl 200 players.

But Olivier was not scared. His heart beat faster and faster as he imagined all the fun he could have when defeating two arrogant lvl 200 players.

All Olivier needed to do was wait for an opportunity when these two would be busy. He would make his way to the guild key and then yank it away.

Suddenly, the two players in front of Olivier moved. It startled him but he hid even more firmly in the corner.

'Did those two see me? Did my plan fail?'

Thoughts like these circled Olivier's mind but then he watched the two players run past his hiding space. They had not even noticed his presence in the corner.

"This is my chance. I did not expect him to come so early."

Olivier's luck was running at an all-time high right now. He quickly made his way into the room and reached the last layer of defense.

He was about to capture the realm key when he noticed an attack heading his way.

Olivier decided to change directions and avoid the incoming attack. He could instinctively tell that this attack would reduce his HP down to zero if it hit him.

[Looks like a rat decided to crawl inside our guild base. Sorry kid, but it is time to die.]

Olivier had not even noticed the lvl 100 sword master in front of him. This sword master seemed to have some kind of long-ranged skill that allowed him to hit Olivier from even afar.

[Hey, can we call a truce? I worked hard to reach this crystal. So can you not let me just have it for a change?]

Olivier asked but even he knew he was joking. No one in their right mind would allow him such a thing.

[You are a funny kid. But it is time for you to die.]

The sword master utilized his skill once more. And on a normal player who was level 100 or above, this skill would not have hurt at all. But the difference of 60 levels was a great hurdle impossible to overcome by natural means.

'Well, time to play the dodging game.'

Olivier maneuvered his player to dodge the attack. He could tell that the attacks he was being subjected to were trying to get him away from the crystal at his side. But Olivier was also stubborn.

He chose to dodge at sharp angles that made him reach for the crystal. He was about to reach the crystal when the sword master realized what was happening.

[You are a crafty one. But I can see what you are trying to do. You will not get to reach the crystal if I am here.]

The opponent typed in and he forced Olivier to dodge in the opposite direction. Olivier was disappointed when his exit was blocked by the other player.

The sword master now stood between the crystal and Olivier. And the only way to reach the crystal would be to kill the sword master.

[Kid, you did well. Now it is time for you to rest.]

The sword master's words sounded solemn. Olivier gritted his teeth as he considered his next course of action.

Dying was out of option, as was retreating. Olivier needed to survive for the next 10 minutes and this guild war would be over. Their team had more players alive after all.

The sword master seemed to have the same thought as Olivier and he decided to even the numbers out. His sword looked deadly and costly as well. Money and thought had been put into that weapon.

[Hey Swordy, are you a guild trainee? That weapon does not look normal to me.]
