Chapter 38 - 38: Start of the guild war [pt3]

The cocky reply of the shooter irked the paladin. He could not understand why the shooter in front of him was not afraid of dying.

'Ah, it must be because the child knows his limits and he knows he can never win against me. Oh well, it makes my job easier for now.'

The paladin raised his shield to deliver a devastating blow. But when he tried to cast anything, he found that his MP was drained down to the lowest limit. He did not even have enough to cast a single basic skill at this point.

[Hey kid, what did you do? Did you hack the game to make my MP drop down? What kind of hack is this?]

The paladin asked with a panicked voice. He had been playing this game for such a long time but nothing like this had ever happened to him.

Only now, did something this weird and controversial happen to him. This could not be a coincidence.

When combined with the eccentricity of the Controller from before, he was more than certain that this person was hacking.

[Why would I hack the game when my opponents are all morons? You simply walked into our guild's trap. Also, time for you to say goodbye.]

The paladin watched the message with a blank face. It did not register in his mind for a solid minute. But once it did, the paladin quickly opened his map to check.

With a pale face, the paladin looked up and flinched. He knew he was dead the second he realized which area he was in.

[Fuck you, kid. I will have my revenge.]

The paladin cried out but it was already too late. The ground beneath his foot split open and he was swallowed by the trap.

That was how the arrogant high-leveled paladin was defeated by an under-leveled shooter.

...…..

Olivier watched as the paladin was swallowed by the guild trap. As much as he hated to admit it, these guild traps were the best and most useful items in the guild war.

"Controller, do you need help? I am done with my opponent so I can come and help you now."

Elder Aruha asked once she was done finishing up her opponent.

"No need. The player following me fell into our guild trap and died as a result. I am alright once more. How long does our shift last?"

Olivier asked as he quickly teleported back to their team's spawning point. It was the closest way to go back to his post.

"Kid, you won? Wow. that is impressive for someone at your level. Anyway, we have about 10 minutes more before someone else comes to take our shift."

Callum sounded surprised as he navigated his way back to the meet-up spot as well.

With only 10 minutes remaining on the clock, Olivier decided to relax his body. No one else tried to attack them either at that time, which was fortunate.

"Alright, time is up. We need to check in with the guild now and we are free to leave our place and participate in the raid."

Elder Aruha spoke these words and Callum let out a 'finally.' Olivier was tired of guarding this place as well since it bound you to be stuck in one place.

But now that he finally had time to go out, he decided to quickly make his way toward the opposing team's base.

{Boss Xiao: Controller, you will be moving alone or with the team for this raid? Whatever you decide is fine with me}

Boss Xiao asked this question on the messenger app and it startled Olivier for a second. He had received a private message from anyone except Terry before.

{Controller: I think I will be moving around alone. The opponent would not consider me a threat.}

Boss Xiao frowned as soon as he read Olivier's message. This option of sending Olivier into the enemy base alone did not sit well with him.

Now, he did know that what Olivier was saying made sense. The enemy was not focused on Olivier as much as he was focused on everyone else.

But still, Olivier was extremely under-leveled and his death would drop the team average.

The guild war might look simple, but it was very complicated. There were only a limited number of slots that were available from both teams to cue up. And by the end of the war, the side which had captured the other's guild key won.

Either this or the team with more players alive.

But Boss Xiao also had confidence in Olivier's abilities. For some reason, he felt as if the kid would manage to make it out in one piece.

{Boss Xiao: Fine, do what you want. But make sure you stay alive.}

Olivier was somewhat surprised and touched at Boss Xiao's trust in his abilities. The elder man was openly saying that he trusted Olivier to make good decisions.

{Controller: I will. Killing me is not that easy.}

Olivier typed these words and he carefully crawled into the enemy territory. His low-leveled skills were a hindrance to him but they also helped him fly under the radar.

He carefully observed the enemy's stronghold but there seemed to be no way to crawl in from the front or even the side.

Olivier would need to look for an alternate way to crawl inside the guild hall.

"Should I try the trap corridor? It will be risky but I doubt someone will be looking after that place. It should be safe for me to use."

As someone who has used the trap corridor before, Olivier knew just how dangerous it could be. A single misstep cause Olivier to die.

But this was also his only chance to survive.

'Alright game, do not let me down. I am counting on you to save me.'

Olivier thought this in his mind as he quickly maneuvered his way toward the trap corridor.

As he expected, there was no one guarding this place. And from here on, it was a matter of skills of dodging and guessing where to land.

This trap game was almost like Minesweeper. There was a set pattern to the guild trap and there were almost 6 possibilities the trap could follow.

Olivier just needed to find the starting point and he would be able to find the rest of the trap position.

Olivier picked up a few rocks and threw them toward the tiles. One of them ignited and then another.

With the position of two traps in place, it became somewhat easier to guess the pattern. Soon, Olivier knew which tile was safe to land and which one he needed to avoid at all costs.

There was no lag or any other inconvenience during the whole process and Olivier managed to make it safely to the other side.

Now that the most difficult hurdle was crossed, Olivier decided to make his way forward. There was not much of a distance between here and the key room.

Olivier peeked inside the key room from a safe distance. He knew his presence would not be picked up from where he was standing. There were an assassin and a mage guarding the room key.
