I turn my head and look straight up at the gates which appear to be a golden gate, with the arch over that is a star with 4 angelic-like wings behind the stars.
The walls seem to be about 20 feet up and have a white texture. I turn around and look and see buildings on the other side of the road which is about 40 feet away.
I would expect a prestigious school to be in a rich area, or far from the public for security reasons. Guess that idea is none existent.
"Thank man, I will get my luggage and get off you're back about it," I say
"Yeah, I need to pay the cart driver before I fix my helmet. I don't know how faulty this helmet was made geez..." he says getting off the cart.
I hop off the cart and see the gate very grand and imposing. I look both ways in the Academy and I just see the occasional knight patrol inside the Academy behind the golden gate dance door.
Before I can say anything the Gate clinks and suddenly creaks open with a slow open from the center swinging inwards.
I see a batch of greyed armored guards with similar blue garments and golden insignia of the Hawk-looking bird.
"Follow us, boy."
I do as the one in a blue cape in the center says and carry my luggage over my shoulder and under my left arm.
"I can hold that for you kid," one says
I hand him both of them and he grunts after the second one.
"Huh?" I ask
"N-nothing! Keep going!" he says almost shaking.
*19 minutes later*
"This is the longest walk I have ever taken on a school campus..." I say with a sigh
"This is a large school with a large number of nobles from various families across this kingdom and even others. A crowded space is not accommodating for royalty." The captain says who is leading the escort
*5 minutes later*
"Alright, we are here. This is the central main office building where you will apply officially to try out at the next magical examination tomorrow conveniently enough. The next one is about 5 months away." he says gesturing to the knight behind me who is very much shaking.
"I will uh, take that for you..." I say taking the two bags each in one hand.
He lets go and his shoulders schlump over lazily as if he had been running for miles.
"Uh, thank you all for the escort. cya around I guess...." I say shimmying around the knights and then the captain and moving towards the entrance steps.
I open the front door and see a large number of people in very formal uniforms looking like some kind of damn anime...Can't put my tongue on it...It is red and, with a black tie, white undershirt, black pants, and some shoes that look way too damn classy. The females wear skirts, but the skirts seem to vary in length. I saw one that seems to be below the knees, and others are just above the knees. The color of the uniforms is black, with the cuffs also being black. The buttons seem to be golden. With a closer look, the buttons have the logo that was above the Academy gates. I am guessing that the Academies official logo.
As I walk in I just feel out of place now. Some people give some glances at me, others just stare at me. I somewhat get a little small, but I straighten my back and walk right to the front office.
"Uh, hello, I am Daniel, representative of Arthur's chosen recommendation," I ask the woman at the desk wearing a black variant of the red uniform, but the color of the collar instead of black is grey. Not a very large difference, but I am betting they are either staff or a teacher's assistant. But I don't know.
"Oh, yes, we had word that you would be arriving within a few days. But I suppose you came just a little bit later by 2 days."
["Came just a little bit later" hehe]
If you had a head I would hammer fist you just to you snap you out of it...
"Uh, yes I am here just a bit late by a few days. But I am here, and I want to get a room so I can get to the magical exams like and soon as possible tomorrow."
"Oh! Of course! Please allow me to give you a handwritten signature to give you a pass to get an available room."
She begins to scramble some papers and pulls out a single sheet of paper and beings rapidly writing down some words on the sheets.
"I have gotten the necessary papers needed to get you a room very quickly. Just go to the dorms in the North-West 101 building. Give the paper to the guard and he or she will guide you to the location of the room. Or more specifically, will just make sure you go to the right room." she says smiling. Signaling that is the end of the conversation.
I leave the building and follow the trail and the sign's toward the North-West 101 dorms and frankly, this campus is big as hell. Very wide, with many tree areas, gardens, other students walking around the place, and guards patrolling.
I find this an interesting sight, but yet I don't find it to...uncomfortable. I move through the paths and find myself walking some people wearing a variant of the normal red uniforms I saw prior, but instead of red, they are white instead. They have golden outlines near the white collars and white ties with a black button-down shirt.
But something about their aura is different. There are about 9 of them, and they are all huddled like sheep around one another like flock. As I observe them and zoom in, the hair, eyes, and skin are all in pretty good condition. Almost like they spent a lot of time on it.
[I am betting these are the high-standing royals or nobles who have high positions in the Academy hierarchy of this place. Plus they look like a mosquito would leave a scar on that smooth skin of theirs.]
True that...The royals already make me mad...But that's not my concern at the moment.
"So...This is North-West 101 Dorms..." I look up at the building which is made of a white-like paint or material and is about 6 stories tall, with about 50 windows in each row. And that is just this side of the building. I can confidently say this building can hold over a hundred people or more.
I walk up to the guard in front of the dorm and before they can say a single thing, I pull out the paper the lady said and he reads it through the helmet.
He nods and sends me into the dorm following me in pursuit about 6 feet from me.
*10 minutes later*
OH shit, I forgot climbing this many stairs causes the heart to put in a lot more effort in working.
[You have an enhanced physical body, how are you exhausted?!]
I never said I was exhausted, I am just saying I forgot what it is like to climb stairs a lot. Being a KDD victim, I was very much unable to do much physical labor without being exhausted or feeling weak. Another reason for being ostracized by the public. People called KDD people weak and inferior as well as a carrier for infection disease incubators.
[Seems dumb. At least the last part. There is no evidence that those with KDD can infect people. Various people have gotten KDD at various ages, genders, races, and locations. People in very remote places even got KDD victims. So until there is evidence of where it comes from and how it spreads, they are very much poorly putting in the effort to stop it.]
Could be worse, they could've gathered up suspected KDD people and essentially kill them off and burn the bodies to destroy the remnants of the disease...
[Hmm, seems you didn't know either. Not surprising.]
Y-you...you don't mean that that was actually happening...
[It very much was. They suspected it came from remote areas of the world, so they targeted villages. In fact, a large number of people of the world who live in remote places of the world had a low but unusual resistance to the disease. Various projects from different countries began doing this to the last remaining groups of people isolated from mainstream society to see this for themselves. As a result, used as living test subjects. They also secretly quelled some "suspected" KDD carriers who "vanished" from the public eye. Some die from random occurrences. Some people believed it deserved divine wrath against KDD victims. It was just government-funded attacks to secretly quell the potential spread. But the numbers showed it didn't increase or decrease the number of KDD cases. In fact, it spread more fear.]
I am assuming they killed a lot of people then. How many? I don't care if it is a concerning number or one, I need to know because it doesn't affect me at the moment
[In 2075, at the height of cases of KDD, with over 179 million cases of it, they killed "suspected" carriers in the hundreds of thousands. Almost a million have since these actions occurred 2 years before 2075. But these people were mostly under the poverty line and killed in complex and even normal ways. people dying in car crashes, some in drowning, some in "overdoses" of medication given, and even random times in sleep.]
*Sigh*....Why am I not surprised to find this out? I have read various books based on the real events of religious wars done by religious groups, or genocidal actions because of superstition or false information or understanding. It isn't surprising, because it was a thing centuries before my time. Only this time there a modern versions. To me, this is just another part of history written. Bothers me, yes, but the fact it happens doesn't surprise me. Before KDD was announced and feared by all countries, they were arming themselves for war, including our own. Calling it the "Final Storm" project, which was a weather-based super weapon to cause massive climate events like hurricanes taking out harbors and coasts, tornados forming on a massive scale, and heavy blizzards and rainfall able to make mountains collapse or flood infinitely.
"S-sir? Are you okay? You seem disappointed." the knight behind me asks
I turn my head surprised for a moment. I forgot someone was behind me as I began my dark and brooding evil villain story.
[So you are becoming a villain?]
Not at the moment.
[What do you mean, "Not at the moment"?]
Because I never know what will happen in the next 5 years, 10, 20, or even the next day. But I don't ever promise something I am not sure of unless I believe it to be a last resort. Makes me get mad.
[So overly complex with emotions. Just lie to yourself And-]
"Uh...You walked past your room..." the knight says 20 feet from me
"Uh, yeah! Sorry..." I say running bag with my luggage in hand."
"Thanks for uhm...following me I guess," I say getting the key from the knight.
I open the door and walk in closing it and see the dorm is not very big. I look at it and it has a single bed on the left corner, a small desk with a single chair on the right corner of the room, and a single sliding door. A single window that is hip height at around 4 and a half feet.
I look out it, and I have the view in front of the dorms of 101. As well as other dorms around mine.
I am tired, to be honest...But I think I've been registered and I think I saw some uniforms of various sizes in the closet. I will go through them when I can.
But first...SLEEP!
I face plant into the bed and lay there for the rest of the time not caring to eat.
