Athena POV
My eyes snapped open and everything around me felt different. The air was no longer as cold as it used to be. I shot up, remembering the man right before I passed out. I looked around to see he was long gone. Lup-dup! Lup-Dup! The sound in my ears made my head spin. "No! Mom, I told you I'll be home in an hour!" I heard a woman's voice in the distance. I suddenly was on my feet and before I knew it I was standing behind the young blonde woman. LUP-DUP! The noise got louder as I felt a sudden burn in my throat. It felt as though someone stuck a hot branding iron down it. I could smell the scent of her skin "Be home in an hour or you're in trouble!" I could hear the voice on the other end of the phone as I slowly crept up even closer. I opened my mouth but as I felt a sharp pain in my gums I winced and before I knew it I was on top of her and my teeth deep into her neck. There was no time for her to scream as the sweet taste of the warm blood hit my tongue. It was like I couldn't stop and before I knew it, she was no longer breathing and her heart came to a full stop. I lifted my head and looked at the woman's face to see the fear and instantly guilt overwhelmed my body. "O-oh...god" I whispered. I touched my wet lips and pulled my hand away to see the blood and what I had done. "Oh...oh my god" I gasped before ducking into an alley. "What..what's going on with me?" I whispered, my voice trembling over my words as I wiped my mouth on my sleeve. I closed my eyes and tried to take deep breaths but everything around me, the smells, the sounds. Everything was too much and as my body began to tremble with fear. . I couldn't explain what was happening to my body. Did the guy drug me? Was I tripping out? I couldn't wrap my mind around anything right now as I felt the sudden strike of hunger overcome my body. "Losing your job isn't the only thing you'll have to worry about" I heard Sally's words suddenly echo inside my head, reminding me of the hatred I felt towards her. I didn't know how it happened but I was suddenly standing in front of Sally's apartment door. I reached out and knocked on it. I knew this wasn't a good idea but it was like I had no control over my own body. When the door opened Sally knit her brows together. "A-Athena? Wh-what are you doing here?" She asked me. "Can...can I come in?" I stuttered out. She looked into the hall before nodding "Yeah, come inside" She invited me. I stepped through and into her apartment, rubbing my hands together as she shut the door behind her. My eyes focused on her neck as it felt like I could see her vein pulsing underneath her skin. "What are you doing here?" She asked me. "I...I can't..." I gulped down at the scent of something sweet again and the burning pain entered my throat once again. "Are you on drugs? God, Thea Thomas is going to kill you!" She shakes her head. "Screw...Thomas" I huffed, closing my eyes to try and focus on anything but the burning in my throat. "Holy shit, is that blood?" She rushed over to me, pulling my sleeve out and I noticed the blood on my hand as well. "Are you okay?" She questioned. "I'm...I'm fine" I jerked my hand away from hers. "It's not mine" I shook my head. She slowly stepped away from me, worry overcoming her expression. "Who's blood is it then?" She asked me. "It's...no ones" I shook my head. "There was a dead cat by the side of the road and I tried saving it" I lied to her. "Okay...doesn't explain what you're doing here" She pointed out. "I feel...different" I informed her. "Different?" She repeated. "Yeah...something isn't right" I shook my head. "Yeah, you're high on something" She accused me. "I'm going to call Thomas" She pulled out her phone and I swatted it out of her hands within a second. "No!" I shouted, grabbing her wrist as I felt the hunger overcome my body once again. I slammed her body against the wall and the familiar pain hit my gums as I opened my mouth. "What the hell!?" She screamed in fear. "I'm...so sorry," I say before sinking my teeth into her neck. Matthew POV I walked into Hyde's office, He's the master of the school he and I built for new vampires. A school where they can learn self-control and history. He's been the headmaster of this school and I've always been his right-hand man. "You sent for me?" I asked him as I saw him standing at his grand window, looking out into the night sky. "Yes..." He slowly turned to me. Hyde hasn't been himself for quite some time, he lost the love of his life decades ago murdered by the vampire who made him. He slipped into darkness, separating himself from almost everyone. He walked over to his desk, picked up a folder and made his way over to me as he extended it out. "There's been two murders in a small town not far from here. Both humans have been drained of their blood completely and Vincent has brought it to my attention" He explained as I take the folder from his hand and opened it up to see two women's pictures and their names. "Connie Reed and Sally Talisman" I read their names. "Vincent will meet you at the morgue where he put the bodies on ice" Hyde informed me. "Why not show this to the council?" I questioned. His face was like stone but I knew him better, I could see the worry on his expression. "You think this has something to do with Lucien" I stated. "Don't...Ever! Say that name again Matthew" He hissed through his teeth, pure rage showing through as his eyes flickered with a red tint. "Sorry..." He turned his head, clearing his throat "Just get it figured out and taken care of" He waved me off with his hand. "I'm on it" I sigh before exiting his office. The moment I got into the small town I wanted to leave. I always hated small towns like these. People are filled with small minds and small views on life. I walked into the morgue "Can I help you?" The human at the desk asked as he lifted his head. "He's with me.." I turned my head to see Vincent walking over. Vincent's son was brought to our school not long after he got his fangs and he always lets us know if something weird or supernatural was happening. "Hey man, what do you have?" I asked as I followed him down the hall and into the room filled with dead bodies. "Well, This is something I've never seen...not in my 40 years of trying to solve murders" He began to explain to me as he walked over to the metal door and opened it up, pulling the bed out. He pulled the blanket off to reveal a woman with short blonde hair. I walked closer to see her neck torn to shreds almost like an animal got to her. "Why didn't you call us as soon as she was found?" I asked him. "She was left in the middle of the street, at first we thought it had been an animal attack" He explained as he walked over to another door, opened it up, and pulled the white sheet back and what my eyes saw was horrific. "But, when Sally was found I knew this was something your kind needed to look into" He stated. I leaned down to the first body and looked closer at the bite marks, seeing that what ever and whoever did this was either out of their minds or unable to control themselves. I walked over to the next body and see the skin mangled on her neck "This one...seemed personal" Vincent informed me. "Yeah..." I leaned closer and took a whiff but the smell wasn't familiar to me. "Whoever did this, they're not in control" I shook my head. "Meaning what? We have one of your vampires off the wagon?" he asked. "No..." I stood up straighter and pulled the blanket back over the body. "This wasn't our vampires..." I say. "Meaning?" He asked, arching his brow. "Meaning I don't recognize the scent left on the body, So it wasn't any vampire we made. Meaning someone made a new vampire and it's running hell on your town" I explained. "You can catch it though, right?" He asked. "I have its scent now, so if they come back I'll know" I nodded. "Why don't you take me to the apartment where you found the second body at?" I suggested to him. "Okay," He nodded before I followed him out of the morgue
