'Wow… And here I thought I was leveling Psionics ridiculously fast… I'm not even actively trying to flirt… whatever, it's not like it's a bad thing… I hope.' I thought as I looked at my status changes. We will be going back to the asteroid field to hopefully clear up the remaining members of the pirate group that is here. We got word this morning that one transport never made it yesterday and was likely attacked, which means my guess is likely correct. They will attack in a larger group only once or twice a day, so now is the best time to clean them up before they split into smaller groups again.
I also have decided to look for a dwarves shipwright. If I can find a good one, I can make a few adjustments to Mjolnir that before in game were either not available due to limited upgrade capacity or they weren't simply that useful in a game sense. One of those things being a cloaking device, and while yes it had its uses, most players had heat sensors on high level ships, mine included, thus cloaking devices were relatively useless as the heat sensors would see through them. On the other hand, I could add a few more minor upgrades to the ship, and eventually a Psionic enhancer like the Voluna have on their ships. For that though, I will have to find how to even get one, and as far as I know, they aren't made or sold outside the Volu'shar empire, since Voluna should be the only race capable of utilizing it. Well, that can be figured out in the future, not like I can utilize it now anyway.
The last plan that I had made throughout the last three days was to search for two specific people to add to my crew. My crew right now is only Selene and I, but I want to get a good Mechanic, preferably a dwarf, and a Voluna to really help me train Psionics. This was more of a long term goal, as neither of these types of people are common. Yes finding a mechanic is easy, but a dwarves mechanic that is will to join a crew? No. Not at all. Dwarves are almost always either business owners or reclusive craftsmen and researchers. Out of the two, it would actually be easier to find a Voluna, I simply have to go to the Valu'Shar empire and find one willing to join my crew. The hard part is finding one I can trust to teach me Psionics without disclosing it. I'm not an idiot, it's common knowledge that a human shouldn't be able to have this power, so I have no plans of flaunting it.
I finished going over my plans in my head and made my way to the cockpit and sat down as we arrived at the Asteroid field. I immediately flew in and Selene wordlessly started searching for large clusters of ships. I decided this time to do it differently though, I flew and cut all power off in the ship, except to the scanner, right inside a crater of a large asteroid. This asteroid is near the middle of the path the transports use to bring goods to the Station from the colony and it's also where the most attacks have been reported to occur, the one from yesterday included. If they are planning on attacking, it will either be around here or close enough that our scanner should be able to detect it.
We spent our time waiting and waiting as multiple caravans of cargo ships passed by unimpeded. Just as I thought they wouldn't attack today, our scanner picked up 8 ships moving in at a fast speed towards the last caravan of the day. This time was a little different though, the size of one of the ships was significantly larger than the others, indicating it wasn't a corvette or a civilian ship. It was a military class destroyer ship. How these small time pirates got their hands on it I have no idea, but if I can clear it out and bring it back, I could earn a decent amount of money for recovering their ship. I was far from needing more money, but it never hurt. Besides, if these pirates were taking any slaves, they would be on that ship without a doubt. I'd rather save them if possible, they get saved from slavery and don't die, and I get money for saving them from the mercenary guild. It's as much of a win-win you can hope for.
I start up our ship and quickly bring our shields and weapons online. The pirates haven't reached the transport yet, but they are quickly gaining on them. Luckily their path is coming from right on the other side of the asteroid that I'm waiting on, so instead of intercepting them, I waited as a grin made it's way onto my face. "Selene, let's welcome them with an EMP bomb. It should be able to disable all of them for a short amount of time. We'll destroy the small ships and then the destroyer with a few disruption spikes. I'll board while you keep an eye out."
Hearing my plan, she grinned, "Sounds good, leave the spikes to me, you focus on cleaning up the small fries and getting ready to board." I nodded as the first pirates ships came into view. They were going away from us, so it was relatively safe to wait a few seconds. We didn't have to wait long as the front of the destroyer class ship came into view surrounded by the smaller ships. Seven modified corvettes and a modified destroyer flew in a loose and sloppy formation, but they tried it, just wasn't very good.
I chuckled to myself as I pulled the trigger, launching the primed EMP bomb into the middle of their formation as it exploded and successfully knocked all the ships but the first corvette, which was too far forward, out of commission. I acted quickly as I flew in their direction and immediately riddled the only active ship with holes, destroying it quickly before turning and destroying the rest of the immobilized corvettes with ease. Having a ship with guns that were considered the best of the best was certainly nice.
Within fifteen seconds, all the corvettes had been destroyed and Selene had successfully shot two disruption spikes into the destroyer. They are essentially the same thing as the disabling cannons, but they are able to pierce through armored plating and release continuous EMP blasts into the ships systems, ensuring it can't be brought back online until the spikes are removed, destroyed or disabled.
I quickly got up and went into the armory, putting on my combat armor, which is a suit of armor made from a special type of flexible metal called Fulcrium. It's an extremely rare and expensive metal that can only be found in the aftermath of a collapsed star. I was able to get enough of it during an event in game, which allowed me to get a suit of armor and a few melee weapons made, including a vibrosword and a vibrospear. While it's called a vibro spear, it is actually more of a naginata, as it has a much longer blade
The thing that makes Fulcrium so utterly expensive is its property to absorb kinetic energy and release it around it, as well as it's high resistance to heat. Not only that but it is extremely lightweight and flexible. I quickly put it on and grab the sword and spear, putting the former in a sheath on my waist and hold the other in my hands. I don't forget to grab a plasma rifle as well and sling it over my shoulder along with a plasma pistol which I holstered on my hip.
Just like flying, when I grabbed all four weapons, I could instinctively know how to use them and it made me excited to try. I put the mask to the suit on just as I hear Selene's voice come over the intercom, "Ready to board Captain."
I heard her and made my way over to the boarding pod, which is essentially a small one person ship that can quickly fly between ships and has a plasma cutter on the front, allowing it to breach through ship hulls. I eagerly jumped into it and looked ahead, anticipating my first chance to fight in this new world of mine first hand.
