—————
Our time passed fairly quickly. It was mostly us sitting around, the two girls talked while I occasionally chimed in. The conversations weren't anything special, mostly just us getting to know more about her and vise versa. The day passed quickly and it had gotten close the time for us to go to Heather's for dinner. "Hey Amanda, I'll need to do a bio scan for you to check your status so I can see what you need to improve on."
She looked at me for a second with some hesitation, since showing your status to someone required a big amount of trust. I saw her hesitation, and continued, "I know it's a lot to ask, but if your going to be on my crew, I have to know what you can do and how I can help you."
She sighed, "I know… its just a little hard to trust someone I just met that much. Even if you agreed to let me join your crew… Can we do it later, once I get to know you a little more and be 100% sure this is what I want to do."
"Sure. But it has to be done before we leave for our next mission also, we'll have to get you registered as a member of my crew. But that's for later, we can do it after you've fully decided."
She gave a nod in return. A few minutes later, we all got up and headed towards the mercenary guild to turn in our job, which we put off til now.
We walked into the guild and saw the same receptionist, once again half asleep at her desk. I walked up and coughed to get her attention. *cough*
She sat up quickly and looked at me with a flushed look, clearly embarrassed at being caught sleeping at work. "I'm here to turn in the quest I took."
Her eyes lit up, "Already? Ehh I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you're an Obsidian rank. Nonetheless, your pay will be sent to your accounts and it looks like we also got a report from the military that you saved 17 kidnapped individuals, is this correct?" She asked in a professional tone.
"Yes." I replied.
"Alright, that will be 45,000 from the job, and 51,000 from the rescues, brining your pay to 96,000 velum total." It might seem like a lot, but 96,000 isn't actually that much. After restocking and repairs for any damage that most ships would sustain during this type of job, they might walk away with 20k-30k at most, which is then split between however many crew members they have. Luckily, all we have to do is restock, the most expensive being the EMP bomb, which will likely cost around 30,000 for one bomb.
"Would you like to take another job sir?" She asked me with a courteous smile.
"Not yet, we will be at the station for a few days before we leave."
"Okay, have a good stay sir." She finished. I thanked her and we walked away and started heading to the location Heather had sent me yesterday. We arrived at a fairly nice apartment complex, each apartment being around 2000 sq ft(I don't know metrics, I know freedom units) in size.
It's a decent sized, especially for an apartment, but to be honest, they are tiny compared to the more expensive housing. It's still decent though, and makes me happy that Sofia will be able to live a decent life with her new foster mother.
We walked up to the apartment number that Heather gave to me and called the intercom. *ring ring ring* The call was quickly answered, and a familiar voice rang out, "Hello, who is it?"
"It's Andrew, Amanda and one other." I answered.
"Ohh! Come in, you're easier than I expected." The call cut after she exclaimed and the door slid open a few seconds later and revealed Heather in a comfortable looking sweater, some jeans and an apron. "Come in, come in. I'm not done cooking. Also hi, my name is Heather, one of the people Andrew saved on that ship. It's nice to meet you." She said in excitement, much different than when I first met her. She didn't forget to introduce herself to Selene during it though.
Selene was the first to answer and introduced herself back with a sweet smile, "Hello, my name is Selene, Andrew's crew mate and girlfriend."
Heather's eyes lit up in excitement, I could practically hear her desire to gossip flowing from her eyes. Before she could say anything, Sofia came running out from behind her towards Amanda and I, "Big brother, Big sis, you came!" She crashed into me first, hugging me, which I returned, before she pulled away to hug Amanda. She pulled away and looked at Selene and spoke in a somewhat shy tone, "H-Hi, I'm Sofia. Nice to meet you."
Selene smiled kindly at her, "Hello, I'm Selene, it's nice to meet you as well."
"Come, come. Sit, I will finish dinner, Sofia go get washed up before it's finished, you can talk to them when you're done." Heather spoke as she ushered us into the dining room.
"Okay aunty." The girl responded and ran off to wash her hands.
The night flew past quickly, the food was good. I was half expecting to find whatever she cooked to be underwhelming compared to my own since I had 100 cooking, but I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't better nor worse, just different which I enjoyed quite a lot.
The girls relaxed, talked and drank some wine I ended up bringing along. Meanwhile I entertained Sofia for a while until she fell asleep. Heather came at some point and picked the girl up and took her to bed before she came back down and rejoined the conversation.
