"So, where have you been?" Harriet's voice pierced the air as Eve entered the suite room, catching her off guard. Her eyes darted to her two maids, Lottie and Marian, who stood nearby, seemingly caught in the middle of the tension.
"You were not here the other night, you did not join the training today, and you were nowhere to be found in the library. Are you going to tell me where you have been?"
Eve's response was curt, her voice devoid of any elaboration. "No."
A moment of tense silence hung in the air, as Evelynn's weariness radiated through her every movement. Without further delay, she gestured urgently for her maid to follow her into the sanctuary of her room.
