Chapter 10 - Hit Without Thinking Twice

"Just a few steps," Saverio muttered as he walked stealthily back to where he had dropped the woman. "And a few more..." He kept uttering to himself as if telling his body to calm down yet. Luckily, there was something to feed on and to get to the food, he only needed to take some steps to her house. He could see from where he stood the light from the entrance and also, the light from the rooms. The windows were bright.

"She is not alone," he grunted, walking slowly. His eyes were still bright green and his legs shook as he carried each of them. His furs had begun to grow beneath his shirt. His wrist and down to his hand was filled with white fur up to his neck, only his face was left fresh.

"More food..." he muttered. His vision had become blurry. It was what happened when his hunger had overcome his sense of reasoning.

If he was still in his right senses, he would have stopped whatever he was doing and recall that this was out of principle. His prey were never the innocent ones.

However, as he continuously hobbled down the street and was some metres away from the entrance of the house, he recalled that the person he was about to feed on was no other than the woman who was supposed to be his new secretary, plus, someone who had not broken his principles. Well, he had not thoroughly checked to confirm if she had broken one of his principles, so it didn't matter.

"Red..." He trailed. He was not used to his red vision. He was the weakest when hungry and he never waited to let his hunger fill him. He always fed his hunger before it came because he knew the consequence. "All I can see is red...Rhian...where the hell-" he stopped talking, holding his chest that had begun to hurt again as if he had been punched.

After a while of hesitating and walking slowly, he finally got to the entrance. He waited a minute, not sure if exposing himself was the best option. Well, he needed not to bother since he would ensure to feed on everyone who was in the house. No one dares see him this way and then be set free. He couldn't risk exposure.

His hand landed on the door and then he rested his whole body on it. He couldn't even curl his knuckles to knock on the door since he couldn't spot the electric bell expected to be in the entrance. He sighed and with his claws, he made slight noises on the metal door.

Before he knocked, he could hear that two people were having a conversation but couldn't point out what exactly. But he recognised the woman he helped earlier. "If...if I had ignored, I wouldn't have ended up like this. You should," he paused and then sighed due to the redness he kept seeing. It was blinding him. "You should pay back, shouldn't you? And it's with your body."

"Your flesh," he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Eva and her mother who were discussing stopped when they heard the knock.

Eva turned her head slightly to the door and then back to her mother, "Mum, are you expecting anyone?"

"I am not sure."

"Let me check," Eva said but her mother stood up to follow her behind. When they got to the entrance, Eva attempted to unlock the door but she froze, "Mum...what if it's the serial killer that attacks at night?"

Mrs Lee paused for a second and gave it a second thought. "Well, we weren't told that the serial killer knocked on their doors. The victims were attacked in the street, not in their homes."

Eva retracted her forwarded hands and sighed hearing her mother, "Mother, we can not tell with people nowadays. The cops would not disclose every information to the press, and that might be because they think it would save people from cardiac arrest and the city from dwelling in further chaos."

Mrs Lee looked at her daughter and at the door again but before she could speak, they heard further knocks, this time, softer.

Eva decided to ask, "Who is that?"

There was no reply. Eva made some secret language to her mother and her mother nodded seeing her. After a while, Mrs Lee came back into the sitting room and at the front of the door behind Eva with a pestle.

"Mum, be on alert, if it turns out to be the serial killer, hit without thinking twice, okay?" Eva told her mother as if they could tell if the person was a serial killer by their face.

"Yes, dear. Just open the door."

Meanwhile, Saverio heard what they said and he laughed at their stupidity. Even though he was weak, they were not fit to handle him but he was surprised when the furs that had grown immediately disappeared, his claws walked back in but the hunger and weakness still remained.

He brought out his mirror and then tried confirming if his eyes were still green, however, he almost fell into the house as the door opened wide and unexpectedly but surprisingly, his head was netted by a heavy object which made him unconscious right away.

"Mr..." Eva called but Mrs Lee already hit the heavy pestle on his head and then she gasped seeing it.

"I...he is strange. He has fainted, right?" Mrs Lee replied, her heavy chest had lessened down since she hit the target.

"Mum... Why did you?"

"I don't know him, neither do you."

Eva looked outside and closed the door. She didn't want to risk the real serial killer coming in.

Mrs Lee and Eva both looked at the unconscious man on the floor. "I know him, mother!"

"What? Do not tell me he is your penfriend, why is he here at this time of day?" Mrs Lee whined and dropped the heavy pestle on the floor. She paused when she looked closer, "Isn't he the famous CEO? I have seen his picture online!"

Eva was used to her mother's exaggeration so she ignored her and said instead, "Mum, you just hit the man who saved me!"
