Still angry, Eva attempted to slap him again but Cupid had predicted her action this time and as a result, he held her by her wrist in time, "You are this angry because you think I am saying nothing but the truth?"
"You... you...how dare you?"
Cupid looked at Eros who stood beside him, not knowing what to do, his gaze then finally balanced on his sister, "If you both think of her as your mother, then fine! I only see her as someone I have been living with for two years, with no strings attached.
The only person I considered as my parent is Dad and he is dead. Right now, I am pretty much an orphan living with an old woman who thinks caring for my basic needs would make her my parent. I don't know the woman we all are living with and I would never consider her as a mother if you want me to."
Eva swallowed, not knowing what to say. It was true that the woman they were living with for two years now had done something incredibly bad but she was atoning for her sins. That was enough. She didn't mean to leave them!
"Sister, if you don't know what family is, or probably, you have forgotten I will tell you. Family isn't someone you live under the same roof with, no matter how long it has been. Family is someone who has been there for you in the most difficult time and always has stuck with you. That woman came into my life after Dad was dead. She came to steal us away from everyone and kept us hidden from the world. If you ask me if I am happy bout it, I would tell you, this would be the worst decision I have ever made. Well, it wasn't my decision, anyway."
As if Cupid was already tired of talking to Eva who perfectly posed as a sculpture, he stopped and then softly told her, "I could take your pink earpiece, yes?"
After questioning, he slowly bent towards the object on the centre table which Eros had borrowed. It was Eva's earpiece. "Besides, it's useless without a phone. I wonder when you will get another, big sis."
He walked out of the sitting room, plugging the earpiece into his phone.
This time, he didn't go the passage leading to his room nor any other part of the apartment, he simply opened the main door and ventured outside the street despite being aware of the fact that if the quarrel that occurred had never happened, Mrs Lee wouldn't have agreed on letting him go outside because of the fear that had tossed through everyone's heart.
Though the serial killer had never harmed a child, there was no doubt that it could happen since children were the easiest to attack.
When Cupid left the room, Eros decided to calm his sister down, "Sis, we must know he is just affected by dad's death. You see, he was the closest to him and was Dad's favourite."
Eva swallowed and she sat down on the sofa. Her breath almost came out like a whisper. "That stupid brother of yours should have at least spared her today. We were actually talking about something light before he just bittered everyone's mind. He is blind to see that Dad is the rotten apple here, not Mum."
Hearing that, Eros disagreed, "I agree to the fact that Cupid was wrong but then I think you are treading on his path right now. Let Dad's soul rest in peace and don't trouble him, big sis. You shouldn't be partial here. Mum is our parent and our late dad is too, we don't need to be partial."
As soon as he was done, he also walked out of the sitting room to his room. He couldn't stand the awkwardness anymore and at the same time, he couldn't go to meet Cupid, there would be another fight if he did and he wanted to spare himself from any.
When Eva was the only one left, she sighed and stood up from the sofa. She angrily kicked the foot of the centre table and then groaned in pain due to the amount of pressure she had instilled.
After a while, she dropped her head on the sofa and sank into the softness, eyes closed while thinking of nothing in particular. However, as she continuously rested, she heard some knocks on the door. "Who is there?"
Eva stood up and then stopped at the entrance.
"Who is there?"
"From Aweseong Corporation, ma'am."
Eva heard the voice and her eyes widened, with complete excitement gleaming through. With no hesitation and trepidation, she opened the door.
Her eyes met a man in a suit, holding an envelope. "What do you have for me, mister?"
"I was told to give you this, ma'am."
Eva swallowed as the letter was forwarded to her. "There is no ticking tiny bomb there, is there?" She joked.
"Of course, no."
Eva swiftly collected the envelope and waded the man goodbye.
She closed the door and tore off the envelope in a blink and surprisingly with a little expectation, she saw the news she had been waiting for the entire time.
She had been employed as a secretary to the CEO of Aweseong Corporation!
"Finally!" Her eyes glimmered. "I wouldn't have thought they could come to my doorstep to hand over this envelope. That is surprising and rare," she added. Her mind had immediately been erased of whatever argument that occurred previously and it was like a fountain of happiness had been set free to fill her heart.
After a while, she sat down back on the sofa with a deep sigh.
"I just have to be cautious on my way to and off work, that is it."
She raised her head again and reread the letter. She exclaimed, "Wow! Next week Monday? I thought it was for the next two weeks. I will have to get ready then!" She narrowed her eyes at the letter, "Something tells me something is wrong with the letter but then, let's hope this is true and not a prank."
Eva was overexcited. She didn't think she would indeed be chosen for the work. Now, she would be working with a popular organisation. Oh, it was time to write a letter to her penfriend because the former one had been stolen by the kidnappers who took all her belongings.
Though it did seem like a dream to apply for the job, she didn't entirely hope that she would get employed.
