CHAPTER 6

CAROL'S POV

I used to have anxiety issues when I was little. Anytime I remembered that mom was dead and school work will try to eat me up I'll start having spasms. But dad was always there, he would hold my hand and make sure he locked eyes with me, assuring me that everything was okay. So when I saw that man I knew what I had to do. The only issue was how I didn't think quickly before I acted. I ran straight to him and performed the anxiety stress relief.

The girl he was with didn't seem to care, I'm pretty sure she was the cause of this. She probably triggered him and made him tense.

He looked really handsome with gleamy eyes up close. I was almost tempted to caress his sharp jaw when I came back to my senses.

While onlookers called the police, I kept holding his hands and he was becoming okay but the girl he was with made a derogatory statement before she left the restaurant, triggering him all over again.

So he fell unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Jean was still seated at the table when I went back to join her so we could finish up.

"I saw what you did there, pretty cool"

"Thanks, my dad taught me before he died"

"Oh your dad, he seemed really cool. I would have loved to meet him"

I chuckled and continued talking.

"Maybe in another lifetime"

"Yeah"

"Let's head out then, let me continue looking for a good apartment. I can see you've already finished your food. I'm sorry I kept you waiting"

"No biggie, I'm going somewhere anyways"

We both stepped out and when we got to the street adjacent to the restaurant, we went our separate ways.

I prepared my CV before so I carried it with me to apply for a part-time waitress job.

The restaurant was very close to my foster mothers house but it wasn't as beautiful and grand as the one Jean took me to. I still wondered how she got such money to afford expensive food like that. I'm just lucky I have such a wonderful friend.

The secretary referred me to the manager's office where I did an interview. Thank Goodness I read. It was mostly on questions concerning meal planning. It was quite eventful and nice. We were plenty there and they were only offering fifteen slots so I hoped I'll get it. They also gave us refreshments to appreciate us for coming.

I then left in search of a good house.

I went to many places and lodges, some were good but ridiculously expensive so I had to search elsewhere.

I was still searching for a good place with nice accomodation when I received a call from Azalea. I threw my phone back into my pocket and hissed when I saw that she was the caller. I became irritated all over again.

She kept calling soon after and I had to pick her damn call on the sixth dial.

What I heard shocked me to the bone marrow.

"I'm a drug addict. The police came to get me arrested for what I did to you when they found me on drugs. Please come help me out. I promise to change and I'll treat you better. Please just this once my daughter"

I was so frustrated and bewildered upon hearing what she said.

"So I'm your daughter now you need my help. Azalea, drug addict?? Really??.

That's just sad and too low for you. I'm sorry I can't be of help to you. Good da…."

"Please, just please. Come to the police Station. I'm too old to be locked up"

"I'm not supposed to care! Who do you think you are to guilt trap me!"

"Please, just this on..ce"

Her voice was all shaky and she was pleading and begging seriously for my help as though I held her life or something. But I definitely wasn't going to get fooled into helping.

"Enjoy your time in jail, old hag"

I hung up on her. I needed time to process everything she said but I was sure I definitely wasn't going to see her. She hasn't been good to me all my life. So why should I help her?

I thought about it critically before I continued looking for a house. I was certain that I wanted her to suffer too.

CURTIS'S POV

I was already asleep when I got a call on my phone from an unknown number. I was reluctant to pick it up because I was sure it was one of those investors that wanted to pick on me and laugh at me because of my company. Before misfortune fell upon me, many of them offered me to sell it off to them but I stood my ground and refused. I wasn't going to do that at all costs!

Now just take a look at me, sigh.

I finally picked up the phone just to hear what the caller had to say.

"Hello, I have a job for you"

The voice sounded automated and autotuned. But the whole thing was weird. I'm definitely not a criminal or kidnapper that someone would call me in the middle of the night to offer me a job.

"I think this is a wrong number. I don't offer such services"

"Curtis right?"

"Woah, you know my name"

"Of course I do, who doesn't?"

"Where did you get my number?"

"You're not a CEO anymore, surely your number isn't that hard to get"

That was a heavy blow and it really hurt my ego. But I had to listen to hear what the caller was trying to say.

"What type of job?"

"You'll hear it when we meet. I don't want to discuss anything via device for security reasons"

"Well now you're just scaring the shit out of me. What if I told you I'm not interested"

The caller laughed in a charming manner. What's when I was able to decipher the gender. A woman, surely.

"You will be, I promise"

"Hmmm, okay then"

I said and continued talking.

"I'll get ready immediately I wake up in the morning"

"Woah, woah, woah. Slow your roll. Not everyone is jobless like you remember?"

"So you're gonna mock me now?"

"Just get ready then. We'll meet late at night.

"Okay I will"

"Yeah, let's meet soon to discuss. It's a good deal"
