AUTHOR'S POV.-
The car was going towards the cafe when Livie's father's phone buzzed, causing him to stop the car. He took out his phone and a little frown appeared on his face as he looked at the caller ID. It didn't go unnoticed by Livie.
"Hello?"
"Yeah. But today?" "Ok fine. I'll be there."
The call got disconnected as Livie stared at her father's distressed expression. "Dad, what happened?" She asked placing her hand on his shoulder as he looked at her and in a jiffy, his expression changed making him give out a smile.
"Nothing squirrel. I just got to go somewhere. It's urgent. I'll drop you quick and then..." His voice trailed off as Livie simply looked at him with confusion. He started to drive again. After a few minutes, the car was standing in front of their house as Livie glanced at her father. "I think you should rest. We'll go to the cafe later. Hm?"
Livie, not knowing what to do, just nodded her head and exited the car as she saw her father driving away. Standing at her spot she aimlessly gazed at the empty road with a lot of emotions running through her head. "Something is wrong."
IN LUCIAN'S OFFICE -
"Any information?" Lucian raised his eyebrows while going through some documents and heard Ryan sigh causing him to lift his head. "What's wrong?"
Ryan licked his lips before looking into the eyes of the lad who patiently waited for his response. "Alpha..." The hesitant pause made Lucian a little conscious as he sat straight completely removing his attention from the documents. "Damien is nowhere to be found. We're trying but looks like he's aware that we're looking for him." The disappointment in Ryan's voice made Lucian heave out a long breath.
Resting his back against the chair, Lucian stared at nothing while Ryan stood there looking at him with worry. "Don't worry alpha. We'll try our best." A deep chuckle erupted from Lucian's throat as he looked towards Ryan and nodded his head. "I know."
Ryan left after a small talk as now Lucian was all alone in the cabin. He again started to check the documents and tidy them. Meanwhile, a knock on his door disturbed the silent atmosphere in the cabin causing Lucian to groan.
"Come in." He said without sparing a glance at the person who just enters thinking it must be Ryan or some other employee. He heard the chair moving in front of him as he confusingly look up to see who came and sat into his cabin without greeting him or asking his permission. When his eyes landed on the girl seating in front of him, Lucian felt his blood boil in anger.
"What do you think you are doing, Ruby?" His voice was full of rage and it was visible through his eyes too. The girl could feel his anger but decided to play it cool. She folded her legs and placed her expensive bag on his table while giving him a sweet smile.
"I'm here to meet you." Her lips pouted as she blew on her nails while side-eyeing Lucian who closed his eyes to calm himself down. "Why? Is it a problem?" She continued now resting her both arms on the table and giving him a seductive look which just added fuel to the fire.
Lucian scoffed and looked away from her as he picked up the phone on his table before pressing a button.
"Who permits you to let anyone enter my cabin? Can't you ask before letting the visitors in?" He growled on the phone while making eye contact with Ruby. But a frown appears on his face when someone interrupted his words.
"I did." Lucian looked at the door to see his mother's frame standing in the door with a neutral expression. She walked inside as Ruby stood up with the most glimmering smile and step aside, giving her seat to Lucian's mother.
Lucian was perplexed to react as he just stared at his mother in utter confusion. "Mother. What is this?" He asked after standing on his feet and bowing to his mother. She gestured for Ruby to sit beside her, making Lucian glance at Ruby with a warning look.
Ruby hesitantly sat beside Lucian's mother without looking at Lucian as he scoffs internally before sitting back in his seat.
"I've arranged a date for you both." The words slipping from his mother's mouth made Lucian's lips agape in disbelief while the beaming smile returned to Ruby's face.
"Mother. Didn't I already tell you that I don't want to go on any dates?" Lucian fists his hands in frustration while keeping his composure. But his eyes were deadly serious and ready to burn someone.
His mother was least bothered as she glanced at Ruby's smile and sigh before looking back to his son. "Lucian, I'm patiently waiting for you to find your mate. But in between, I have to make sure that you didn't engross yourself too much in this. That's why I've arranged this date." Her explanation made Lucian's expression soft, but he still didn't like the idea of going on a date with someone else. Especially Ruby.
"But mother..." Lucian's words were left unfinished when his mother showed him her palm. He stopped but his eyes started to turn red as his wolf began to growl. Lician's wolf doesn't like it when someone orders him around. Even if it's his mother.
"It's my order, Lucian. You're going on a date with Ruby." Lucian closed his eyes to calm down his wolf before he opened them again. He looked at his mother and then towards Ruby who was staring at him too.
Knowing that there was no other option in front of him, Lucian slightly nodded his head. "Fine." His answer made Ruby squeal in happiness. His mother eyed him for a few seconds before getting up from her seat.
"Good." That's all she utters before marching towards the entrance. Even before Lucian could say anything, she was already out of the door.
Lucian brought back his eyes to see an excited Ruby staring at him which made him annoyed to the core. "So where are we going?" She asked in the most enthusiastic voice making Lucian scrunch his nose and dig his face in the file.
"I have work. I'll tell you once I'm free." He said in an uninterested tone making a smile on Ruby's face fall. But she still kept her hopes high.
"No problem. I'll wait." Lucian peeked at Ruby when he heard her voice and saw her getting up from her chair and walking towards the couch. She dropped herself onto the couch and sat comfortably before pulling out her phone to pass the time.
On the other side, Lucian couldn't help but cursed while aggressively flipping the pages of the file. "Such a great day."
TIME SKIP (EVENING) -
Ryan peeked into the meeting room where Lucian asked him to meet. He saw the dark room which made him scrunch his eyebrows in confusion. "Sir?!!" Calling out loudly, Ryan entered the cabin but didn't get any response.
In a haze, he roams his gaze around the room but still couldn't see anyone. "Maybe he's late." He mutters before turning his heels to go into Lucian's cabin, but before he could exit the room, the door burst open as a furious Lucian entered and banged his hand on the table leaving Ryan in a daze.
"Alpha...?" Ryan hesitantly approached Lucian disturbed figurine and with lots of coverage, he placed his hand on the fuming male's shoulder. "Are you..."
Before he could complete his words Lucian turned around and roared. "No, I'm not. I'm not fine. Nothing is alright." His voice echoed in the room making Ryan take two steps back as he stood there astonished. Lucian ruffled his hair and popped himself on one of the chairs.
"Is it that hard to understand what I feel?" His question made Ryan look at him with a soft gaze. He looks down before walking towards Lucian and taking a seat beside him.
"Alpha, please calm down." He tried to soothe him by rubbing his back as Lucian just defeatedly placed his head on the table. Ryan felt bad for his brother but there was nothing he could do for him at the moment. He just tried to comfort him. "Everything will be fine."
"How? How will everything be fine? I don't know what I'm going to do." Lucian was disappointed in himself, in everything. He was overwhelmed and Ryan knew it. He stayed there beside him and tried to reassure him that his doing great and everything will be fine soon.
After what felt like an eternity, Lucian calm down and fixed his clothes. Ryan just stared at him as he watched the lad getting up from his seat and heading towards the exit. "Alpha where are you going?" Ryan asked hurriedly following Lucian's steps as Lucian stopped in his track and turned around to look at Ryan.
"On a date."
