FLASHBACK -
Lucian came out of the cafe and was about to sit in his car when he heard Livie's voice calling out for him. When he turned, he found her waving at him with his phone in her hand. He smiled when she started crossing the road to reach him, but hearing his heartbeat increase suddenly he felt a weird feeling taking over him. His brows crushed together as he placed his hand on his chest feeling his heartbeat. When he looked up at Livie's figure, his heart sank in his stomach. The truck coming from the opposite side was moving towards Livie at full speed. Unaware of it, Livie walked further until she was in the middle of the road and heard a loud honk. Turning towards the source of the loud voice, Livie froze in her place as her body went numb and her eyes widen. Her blood went cold and she couldn't react at all. Shutting her eyes tightly, Livie clutched her hand to her chest as all the good memories flashed in front of her eyes.
"LIVIE!!" Lucian shout while running towards her who was luckily standing not so far from him. Just when the truck was about to hit her, he pulled her towards him and tried to pull her off the street. The driver of the truck also turned the direction to the opposite side while decreasing the speed of the vehicle. But unfortunately, while getting to the side, Lucian's hand got bumped by the truck and he lost his balance, causing both him and Livie to fall. Thankfully the truck stopped just before it could crash into the shop. Lucian was holding Livie but as his back hit the ground, his grip loosen around her and that made Livie roll to the other side and hit her head on the footpath. Both of them groaned but Lucian's ear perked up hearing Livie's low whimpers and he immediately stood up and ran towards her. He completely ignored his bleeding forehead and held Livie's shoulder making her open her eyes and looked him "Livie, are you okay?" He asked carefully removing her hair to examine her wounded forehead. Livie just stared at Lucian for a few seconds before she closed her eyes and fell unconscious. Lucian continuously tapped her cheek trying to wake her up but that was of no use. He panicked and held her waist to feel her heartbeats. Sensing that she was only unconscious but her heartbeats were normal, he felt a little relief but her wound which bleed continuously made him worried. "Oh my god! Livie." Tina, who came out of the cafe after hearing the commercial, ran towards them. Crouching down in front of Livie's unconsciously laying figure, she held her hand and her eyes instantly teared up. "W-What happened?" Lucian looked at her and then back at Livie before sighing. "Don't worry. She's fine. Just unconscious. I'm taking her to the hospital." He informed before delicately grasping Livie in his arms and standing up. "I'll come too." Tina wiped away the tear slipping from her eye as Lucian asked her to open the backdoor of his car. She did as he said and sat inside after Lucian made Livie lie in the back. Lucian hurriedly went and sat in the driver's seat. He hissed when his back touched the seat. He bite his lips and took a deep breath before starting the car and driving toward the hospital.
AT THE HOSPITAL -
Carrying Livie inside the hospital, Lucian shouted for the doctor as one of them came running towards Lucian. The doctor gasped seeing her unconscious figure in his hands and told the nurse to bring the stretcher. Soon they brought her to the emergency room as Lucian and Tina stood outside waiting for the doctor. Livie noticed that Lucian also had some injury. "You should get treated too." She said making him look up at her. He then only realise that his forehead was also bleeding due to the little scratch on it. He just smiles and shook it off causing Tina to stare at him. "That's fine. I'm ok." As they were talking, they heard the door opening sound and the doctor walked out. Lucian stood in front of him before bombarding him with his questions. "How's Livie? Is she fine? Is she conscious now? Can I meet her? Is there any serious injury?" Looking at him, the doctor chuckled before placing his hand on Lucian's shoulder. "Calm down young man. Don't worry, she's perfectly fine. It's just a small injury. She'll be fine. Yes, you can meet her. But make sure not to stress her much. And yeah, get your wounds treated too." The doctor gave out a smile to him and Tina and walked away. Lucian breathed a sigh of relief and walked inside the room where Livie was. His eyes soften as he saw her laying on the bed with a bandage covering her forehead and a saline tube connected to her hand. He walked closer to her and stood beside her bed, his eyes staring at her as she breathed in and out slowly with her eyes closed in a peaceful sleep. His hands went to hold her hands but he restrained them when he saw Tina's figure on the other side of the bed. He just looked away for a second before blinking his eyes and then looking back at her. "God this girl gives me a heart attack every time." She said in a low voice causing Lucian to look at her and then back at Livie as a swift chuckle left his lips. "Me too." He whispered making Tina look at him. "Sorry?" He raised his head and shook his head with a slight smile. "Nothing. I should get going. I need to reach somewhere. Please take care of her and tell her to call me once she's fine." He said to which Tina nodded her head and smiled. Lucian gave a last glance to Livie before walking out of the room.
Placing his hand on his chest, Lucian stood there for a few minutes as he recall everything that happens and rubbed his forehead. "I was so close to losing her today. Is this a sign? I need to be careful." He talked with himself and shook his head before walking towards the nurse to get first aid.
PRESENT -
"Are you out of your mind?" Ryan stood from his place aggressively making Lucian look at him. "What?" he asked with the most uninterested tone making Ryan groan and hold his hair. "You are telling me that you endangered your life to save her when anything could have happened?" Lucian stopped sipping his coffee and gave Ryan a look that was enough to tell him that Lucian didn't like what he was saying. "I endangered my life to save MY MATE. There's nothing wrong with it. In fact, it's my duty." Ryan tried to speak but stop and took a breath then proceed to say. "But we are not sure yet if she's your mate." Ryan said while looking away from Lucian knowing very well that he must be digging holes in him through his eyes. "I know she's my mate." Ryan turns to look at Lucian and folded his arm in front of his chest. "Oh really? Can you prove it?" Frustratedly placing the cup on the table, Lucian stood up and walk towards Ryans's standing figure. He made strong eye contact with him as Ryan gulped while looking away from the alpha's intimate gaze. "I don't need to prove it to anyone. But because it's you, I'll prove it to you. Soon." Lucian walked away leaving a worried Ryan behind. "I hope you will."
MEANWHILE -
Livie opened her eyes slowly and looked around her and saw two figures standing beside her. She squinted her eyes to see clearly and finally realized that it was Tina and her father. She tried to get up but groan when her head spun catching everyone's attention. Her father instantly went near her and held her hand laying her down again. "Livie, are you okay? Do you need something?" He caressed her hair softly causing Livie to give a weak smile. "I'm fine Dad." Her voice was low and fragile as she stared at her father with her half-open eyes. "Squirrel, why can't you be more careful?" She could feel the crack in his voice as he looked down avoiding the eye contact. Tina who was standing beside him, rubbed his back in a comforting manner. "It's ok uncle. She'll be fine."
Livie tried to keep her eyes open but due to the effect of medicines, she again fell asleep. "So who it was you said?" Livie's father looked at Tina as she thought for a second before speaking. "I don't know him, but I guess his name was...Lucian." Livie's father turned to look at his daughter's peacefully sleeping figure and caressed her forehead gently. "I think I need to meet you, Lucian."
