ERIS
I gasp out as I quickly sat up on the bed. I looked around me. /"Oh, I'm just at home. It was just a terrible nightmare./" I said to myself. I let out a sigh as I rub my eyes.
/"Argh why do I feel weirdly tired when I have just been sleeping?/" I try stretching out my arms and back before getting off the bed. I check the time on my phone. It's Saturday and it's 10:15 a.m. I got off the bed. I turned 18 yesterday, I am finally that age to have as much fun as I want. Wait, how did I get home last night? Was I too drunk to remember? Jake threw me a surprise party. I tried remembering.... Nothing, only remembering that he did threw me a surprised party that I nearly cried out. Jake probably brought me back home drunk, but I don't drink to that extent. But I usually stop as soon as I'm getting tipsy.
I sighed and made my way to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and shower. Once I was done, I dressed up and got out of my room climbing down our two storey house.
/"I am coming honey.../" I heard mom's voice, she is probably talking to Dad. I took a turn and got inside our living room where the voice was coming from.
Dad was sitting on the couch busy on his phone and Mum was standing while backing him answering to a phone call. I smiled and walked towards Dad, sitting next to him.
/"Morning Dad./" I whispered. He turns to me.
/"Morning Angel./" He whispers back, smiling at me. My Dad, is a father that any girl would ask for. He seems to understand me more than mum ever does. He is more of a /"yes/" and /"have fun/" parent while mum is more of a /"no/" and /"it's dangerous out there/" type of parent. They are both working. Mum owns, well the CEO of her own salon while Dad works in a industrial company. He gets paid well and we are all always okay with the way things are financially. We aren't poor neither are we rich, but we are well off.
/"Belin, go on what happened?/" We heard mum's voice raising, seeming a bit panicked or frightened. /"What?!/" She suddenly yelled out of shock making me jolt a bit. Dad and I both got up. Mum's back was currently facing us. I could see the sudden shift of atmosphere as Dad and I try to get Mum's conversation on the phone and silently hoping everything is okay even though we noticed the stiffness on her shoulders. She lets out a breath. /"Okay, we will be there in a few./" She said while checking the time on her wristwatch then took the phone away from her ear and pressing the red button.
/"Honey, is everything okay?/" Dad immediately asks. Mum slowly turned towards us. The look of fright in her face was clear. My face filled with concern just looking at hers. She moves her eyes from Dad to mine, then she gulps loudly as she moves her eyes to the floor. Something not so good definitely happened.
She sighs and brought her face back up, turning it to the side. The silence atmosphere was obvious with the thickness. It was pin drop silent as we all wait for Mum to explain what's going on. Dad walks towards mum and rubs her arms gently. I just took few steps closer. /"Mum, what's wrong?/" I asked. She barely acts like this and only has this facial expression when something terrible happens. Maybe something happened at work, her salon maybe? I just hope it's not something so terrible. Wait, but she said Berlin and that is Jake's mum's name. She turns back to me. Her eyes, she has pained pitiful eyes. My eyes slowly widen. Did something happen to his mum? I hope not.
/"Eris./" She calls my name barely a whisper. I walked closer and placed my hand on her back slowly rubbing it in a circle.
/"Yes mum?/" I questioned, trying to be patience for her to let it out.
She lets out a sigh. /"Jake./" She says not only my boyfriend's name but also my closest friend. We have been best friends from childhood. We never left each other for one bit and always got each other's back. Until we found the growing love we have for each other, it became official that we were inseparable. That's how we started dating 3 years ago. We of course did have our arguments and give cold shoulders but Jake always makes it up to me. He is always the first to apologize even some times when I was the wrong one. I also apologize to him. We love each other to an extent of creating names for our future kids. I just hope nothing is wrong with his mum.
I shrink my eyebrows. /"What...what about Jake's mum?/"
/"No, it's Jake. He....he...Oh my gosh, this is so hard./" She says, her voice coming out trembling, she suddenly sniffles. Everyone knows we are soul mates.
/"Nothing's wrong with Jake right?/" I asked, giving mum my concern look.
/"Take a deep breath honey./" Dad instructed, trying to calm her down. I quickly nodded in agreement to his instruction to mum. Mum did as told. She looks back at me then suddenly looked away.
/"Jake is....Jake was found....found dead./" She sobs out. Dad gasp.
I froze. Completely.
I didn't hear her well. I obviously didn't hear her well. I let out a little chuckle at my stupidity.
/"Mum? I didn't get you. I definitely didn't hear you at all. You were saying?/" I asked. She sniffs and stares right at me this time.
/"I'm sorry honey, Jake was found dead this early morning./" She actually repeated. It wasn't my ears playing games on me. I took a step back then stumbled but I quickly got my balance.
I shook my head. I shook my head repeatedly. /"No mum. That's not true, we were together through out the whole party last night. The same surprise party he threw for me./" I shook my head continuously. /"How do you even know that?/" I asked, not believing a single bit. We were fine yesterday. He was completely fine.
She sniffle. /"His mum, his mum called and said the police are at her house for questioning because apparently he was shot./" Her voice cracking.
I gasped for air. /"No this is not true. It can't be./" My eyes fills with tears. /"Is this.../" I searched around me. /"...is this some surprise prank for my birthday as well?/" It could be right? It can be. Please tell me it is.
She shook her head and walks straight towards me. /"No love, it's nothing like a prank./" She said and pulled me into a tight hug it felt more like she was trying to hold me still. My eyes whales up with tears.
/"It can't be./" My voice cracked. I felt my legs going weak. I took my head away from mum's chest and shook my head. Her hands were now wrapped around my waist. /"No it can't be./" A sob left my lips.
/"I'm sorry love./" She says as she rubs my back. I wanted to drop to the ground but she holds me tighter. I continuously shook my head. My heart can't accept such pain.
I turned to mum. /"No mum. It isn't true. We should head to his place./" I said, trying to come out of her tight hold on my waist while Dad telling me to calm down. I let out a sharp breath and shut my eyes. /"Mum, let go. We need to go to his place now./" I said sternly. She slowly loosen a grip around my waist. I quickly push her hands off and went straight to the coffee table to pick up her car keys. I picked it up. I am going to be taught how to drive from today. Jake promised to teach me how to drive. I hand the key over to mum. She slowly took the key from my hand. I walked pass her.
/"I will be waiting in the car./" I said.

I watched through the window how close we are to his house.
/"Eris./" Mum calls. I sighed.
/"Yes mum./"
/"Promise me, you'll keep strong./"
I turned to her. /"Seriously mum? You are really believing that about Jake?/"
/"His mum wouldn't lie, Eris./"
/"Oh, we are here./" I said, stopping her from trying to make me believe. Mum sighs and parks her car by the side of their street because a police car took the parking spot in front of their garage.
I quickly unbuckle my seatbelt and unlock the car door as I opened it and stepped out. I quickly jog to their porch and knock on their door. Few seconds later the door opens. I stare at the strange face confused. It was a policeman dressed in uniform. He moves to the side and I got a view of Jake's mum. She nods at me. I stare at her red teary eyes and felt heartbroken staring at her. I rushed towards her and put my hands on her shoulders.
/"Mum? What's wrong?/" I also call her mum. She sniffles and stares at the door. I followed her stare and she was staring at my mum. I decided to ask. /"Is Jake around?/" I asked looking around the house before turning to her. She stares at my mum and Mum shook her head. Jake's mum suddenly let out a loud sob, shocking me. I pulled her into a hug.
/"My son, my son Jake.. is dead./" She cries out. I quickly pulled away from the hug but left my hands on her shoulder.
I shook my head, the panic. /"You are not saying that too./" I said.
She broke down more. /"Jake is dead Eris!/" She yells out in pain.
My hands drop from her shoulders.
The nightmare I thought I had, replayed in my head. I gulped down the sharp rocks. I dropped to my knees and just then I felt mum's hands on my shoulders. My hands trembling. I yelled, I screamed my lungs out. /"NO!/" I yelled out. My hands wouldn't stop trembling. My heart aching like a pain ready to stay forever. I yelled out and shook my head. /"NO! JAKE!!/" I cried out in pain. My salty tears pouring out from my eyes. It really happened, the nightmare felt more clear. I shut my eyes tight trying to clear the vision of Jake being shot right in front of me. /"No, this is not happening. This is not happening!!/" I continuously sobbed out.
/"We are soulmates, nothing can separate us till death do us apart./" Jakes words played in my head before my eyes rolled back and I blanked out.
Let me wake up from this horrible nightmare.
