Chapter 6 - Chapter 05: Needle in the Haystack (Part 2)

I put a cup of coffee in on my table. I send Evelyn home early and now it's only me, Kim, and Mrs. Sherlyn. "Why she…" Kim rolled his eyes and straightened his body.

It's my day 2, and he ruined it. My goals to stay in this town is having a break. "She's the owner of this place." Mrs. Sherlyn nodding her head and crossed her arms.

She is practically young and beautiful. She's 30 years old, a single mom, and she is a business owner. For me, she's my type, but our age gap was too far. Besides, I'm not ready to have a kid.

"So, why did you do that? As a woman… I feel sorry for your wife." She stared at Kim, who sit on my chair in agony. I know he loves his wife, but this already crossed the line.

Kim rubbed his face roughly and sighed. He looks at me as raised his eyebrow. "I haven't slept with her for… about 4 months." He said.

Mrs. Sherlyn slapped his head and glared. "Are you fucking kidding me?!" She pulled his shirt collar and glared at him, "just not you haven't slept with your wife, it doesn't mean you can sleep with another woman!"

I get out of my office and observing this bookstore, and I saw her. She is the person who invites me to dinner, but I told her to reschedule. I thought she will go out with her protective brother. "Do you like my sister, tourist?" Shit, he caught me off guard.

"Maybe." I leaned my back on the wall while observing her from the distance.

"Stay away from her, stranger." He put his arms around my waist and pulled me.

Huh. Childish. "What if I don't want to stay away from her?" I asked him. Jason put his gun on my back. A gangster? No wonder The Mayor wants me to be careful with him. I snatched his gun and put in inside my jacket's pocket, then pointed at his waist.

Jason chuckled and shook his head. I put his gun back in his hand. "You a cop?"

I shook my head. "I served in Iraq for 4 years. How about you?" I'm waiting for him to answer my question. "Which gangster do you join? What is their expertise? Human trafficking, drugs, or… a smuggler?"

Jason clenched his jaw and glared at me. "Don't you dare to tell this to my sister!"

I pulled him to get outside, then pulled him to the alley. "Why?" I picked a wooden block to defense myself. "Why you joined them if you don't want to let your sister know?" I walked towards him.

Jason strolled backwards as he grips his gun tight. "M-mind of your business!" He pointed the gun at me. His hand was shaking.

"I don't want looking for trouble, Jason." I put the wooden block on the ground, then raised my hands. Jason keeps pointing his gun at me until we are both trapped by walls surround us. The only way to get out of this is by walking past me. Now, it's between my death, his, or both of us.

Here goes nothing. I snatched his gun again. "What did you…" I kicked his stomach. Jason kneeled and whined. I grabbed his gun and checked the ammunition.

".50 cal?" I emptied the magazine and disassembled it. "I don't want to get trouble."

Jason glared at me. "You don't know us!" He running pass me. I stun by what he said earlier. Don't know you? You might be right, Jason. You might be right.

I throw a new towel at Kim and sit on the edge of the bed. "Go home. You have Lil Daniel, right?" Kim shook his head and took a deep breath.

"I don't have a home." He said in agony.

I pulled a chair. "What about your kid? He needs you, right?" Kim rolled his eyes.

"He hates me, Julia. I wish I'm not there with you. I'm not losing him."

"So, you blamed me?" I asked as I pointed to myself. "Am I never told you to leave?! I always said to you, if you have something important to do with your family, you can leave!"

Kim stand up and followed by me. We glared at each other for a minute. "Okay, fine! I'm sorry." He grabbed the towel and leave.

I picked my phone. Who called me? Should I answer the call? No, maybe it's Henry with his new number. I put my phone inside the drawer, then sit on the chair while staring at the wide window. Star and the moon shining bright tonight.

I open a can of beer and turn on the tv. "…Let's we moved to entertainment news. Our writer star Julia Harianto is still missing…." I keep watching the news anchor reading her news about me. Why Am I still become a headline? Am I that important?

"We moved to another news. Irene Jang, a 24 years-old model leaving modeling world." What the fuck!? "According to her agency, she wants to focus on her personal life. After she rumored has a relationship with a new star actor Marshall Jenkins, gone viral!"

I rubbed my face roughly and exhale slowly through my mouth. World never knows with who her ex-girlfriend is. A fadedly sound heard as I drink. "Who's that!?" I walked towards the door and unlocked.

"Hey,"

I'm scratching my hair. "Hey," shit. She's here. Who told me I stayed here?

"Can I come in?" I open my door room widely and let her get inside.

"I-I'm sorry about the mess…" she put a bottle of wine on the coffee table. I turned the tv off.

"It's alright," she said.

I pleased her to sit, and now here we are. Two women in the same room with a bottle of wine. "I'll get you the glass," she's nodding her head. Shit.

"It's okay to drink red wine without a cheese, right? I just found this on the shelf."

I'm approaching her with two normal glasses in my hand. "Have you had dinner?"

Rose holds my hand. "I-I'm sorry about Jason," she said. I took a deep breath and nodding my head.

"I understand." I pour the wine and served the wine.

"I guess…" I hold her hand and cleared my throat.

"Let's we… have dinner? I told your brother to reschedule it."

Rose chuckling, then smiled. I'm waiting for her agreement and she nods. "Split bill?" Right, we're not a couple.

I grabbed my motorcycle key and my leather jacket. "Let the wine breath," I grabbed her hand out of my motel room.
