"You two can be so kind to give me the crystal, right?" Jarett asked, though he knew they wouldn't. He didn't even have the strength to fight them. Still, he got in a stance ready to take on anyone for the crystal.
"Hand it over Raten," Kiyan demanded. His brother instead held onto the gem firmer and said,
"Come get it!"
"Jarett, this is going to hurt." Kiyan suddenly said confusing the latter. His brother picked up on what he meant, his lips formed a smirk.
"To solve this rising tension, just give me the crystal and everyone will be happy." Jarett getting a hint on what was about to happen inched closer to Raten with slow steps. The twins still hadn't taken their eyes off each other.
"I'm taking you both out!" Kiyan exclaimed. Jarett's eyes widened at the exchange of powers that immediately followed, especially the one sent at him. Fire and lightning. Kiyan knowing what the two can handle, sent out flames larger than what he had to others throughout the exams to his brother and friend.
Raten knowing how his brother's mind worked, sent out lightning blast at same intensity at the two. At the same time, the elemental abilities collided with whom they were meant for. Jarett took fire and lightning to the torso, Kiyan took a lightning strike across the chest and Raten was hit by the flames to the chest as well. The three got blasted off in different directions and out of the exams.
Watching everything from very comfortable seats with a large orb projecting the events unfolding in the maze to the five wizards. "They took themselves out?" One of the wizards said surprised of the outcome.
"Well, the test was never about the crystal anyway," another said.
"This shows one thing, when there's an enemy in sight, those two will take it out no matter the cost. They obviously knew what the other was thinking and thought if I'm going, so are you." Another said and they all nodded in agreement.
"What about the wolf boy, helping the people get across the fire when he didn't have to? He's a team player. We saw a lot of that here."
"Picking based on the criteria given by the academy, we have gotten the new batch of students." One of them said looking at the list of names in his hands, with a quail ridge doused in ink, he slowly glanced upon the names with some of them already ticked in acceptance. Upon viewing three names, they glowed showing those were the ones he searched for.
Jarett C'briel, Raten Silverstone and Kiyan Silverstone, the last names to be ticked in acceptance for Darkmoon Academy.
Meanwhile, in a room where fifty beds lay, with each participant of the exam either laying and getting treated by healers or sitting and waiting nervously. The last three to leave the maze were rested on three beds beside each other. Two out of three were already healed and just laid there, while the other was slowly regaining consciousness. His body still hurt from the attacks he had received.
"Oh look, he's awake." Raten being the closest to him said as soon as Jarett opened his eyes. Jarett sat abruptly and glared at the twins.
"Tell me, did you plan to kill me!" He shouted causing heads to turn in his direction.
"If we did, you would be dead." Kiyan said with a wide grin, though his words were a bit unsettling. "Besides, I said it would hurt."
"I will get you two back for this.. someday." Jarett laid back down with his head rested on his palms while he stared at the ceiling.
"Say, you two could have easily gotten rid of most of the competition, why didn't you?"
"It would have been boring." They replied simultaneously.
"You also didn't have to get others on your back to cross the fire, yet you did." Kiyan added.
He kept quiet for his reason was same. It would have been quite boring to get to the crystal with not enough people battling for it. They laid in silence for a while before the wizards came in. As soon as they did, everyone rose to their feet. The beds then vanished into thin air and they all hurdled close to hear what the wizards had to say.
"You have all done exceptionally well like we hoped. Unfortunately not everyone did well enough to be accepted." The wizard said and a paper filled with the names of the new students of course with the exception of those who will not be going to Darkmoon.
The hearts of every participant present began to race. They didn't think they would find out their fate so soon.
"Oh goodness."
"I hope I make the list."
"If I'm not on there, those boys will pay."
"I am definitely on that list."
"I must have made the top five."
Every kid with their own thought, while some were confident they were accepted, some were nervous, others looked for who to pin the blame on for their failure. In due time, they will know just where they stand.
The wizard brought the list close to his face, and cleared his throat. "If your name is called kindly move to the back." He pointed at the other end of the room and then began calling the names he had with him. Tension rose and so did joy in the hearts of those that heard their names. Some of them literally jumped and screamed, while others breathed a sigh of relief and walked to the back when they heard their names.
The number of children still standing in the middle of the room had thinned out and it seemed the wizard was almost done with the list.
"Why haven't he called our names yet?" Kiyan asked himself as he began to worry. With the others left, they listened closely to the last names being called.
"Lecter Ackerman, Enoe Keave, Wallace Gendi, Jarett C'briel, Camilla Paige, Alba Munn, Kiyan Silverstone and Raten Silverstone. These are the names of the selected participants." He announced and excitement filled the hearts of those who had finally heard their names.
Forty out of fifty had been chosen. The remaining ten stood sulking, some of them already in tears.
"I was beginning to have doubts there." Kiyan breathed a sigh of relief as he moved to where the others stood.
"You should have more confidence." Raten said.
"To the rest of you who didn't make it, do not be disheartened, there is always next year. I want to see each and everyone of you back here and also call out your names." He said his final words to them and then directed that they go with the men that stood by the door.
"To you lot, congratulations on getting into Darkmoon Academy!" He said as the others left and a loud cheer coupled with banging of palms together considered as clapping, for themselves of course, filled the air. The initial nervous feeling had been replaced with ecstasy.
Another travel by portal happened and they all found themselves outside. There was absolutely nothing in sight except for greenery and two Pegasuses, each having different colours to their being. Appearing out of nowhere, as they've been constantly doing, two out of the five wizards each got on one pegasus. "Time to head off," one of them spoke and took off to the skies.
The ground began to rumble and crack open. From beneath it, a twenty metre long and thirty metre wide caterpillar, oddly with wings, came out. It didn't look like a normal beast would, instead it looked crafted with fine wood. But still looked so much like a living caterpillar. It had doors and windows on its body and each one opened. The kids hesitated a bit before going in. As soon as they all got in, the doors closed and the caterpillar flew off in the direction the wizards went. Their journey to Darkmoon began.
