When she returned with the water, Soren eagerly downed the contents of the cup.
"I thought it would taste even worse than the first," he commented as he put the cup down.
Levina giggled. "It is mostly just water."
The flames of the fire had almost died out when Lucien fell asleep. Levina listened to the soft sound of his steady breathing and wished nothing more than to give him all the peace in the world. Even if it meant wringing it out of the Earth's core.
"He is a handful, isn't he?" Soren's amused tone snapped her out of her thoughts. He had watched her watch Lucien for what felt like a decade. He wanted to allow her to continue watching him in silence, but Soren did not usually appreciate elongated silences. Levina blushed and turned to face Soren, her back turned to Lucien.
"Are you still in pain?" she asked, ignoring his question.
He shook his head. "The water worked like magic. I don't feel a thing."
She nodded.
