"I never really asked, where are you from?" Levina asked casually, lifting her spoon to her lips.
Marie shrugged, "everywhere and nowhere. My parents are from Arvenia, they died and I moved in with my grandmother. She is dead now too, so I trained to become a nurse for the military and here I am."
Levina frowned, "I didn't know that, I am sorry."
Marie nodded and took a bite of her bread, "I hate the bread here. It is too dry," she laughed.
"They are too busy trying to stay alive to worry about butter," Levina joked and Marie laughed heartily.
Levina could not help but stare at Marie in awe and wonder how she does it. How she managed to be happy even with all the bad things that happened to her. Marie walked around with a bright smile etched on her face like smiling was her birthright.
"What about you?" Marie asked.
