Levina shook her head. "It is late, my lord, and I am tired. I would like to turn in for the night."
She half hoped that he would hold on to her hand and try to convince her to go with him but was disappointed when he let go. She immediately regretted being harsh to him. Maybe she should have followed or insisted that he explain himself first. But she knew she could not change her mind now, so she continued to the marquee, still hoping that he would follow her and whisk her away to wherever in the world he wanted to go.
She thought her heart would shrink with the disappointment she felt when he did not call her back or try to stop her. Even when she intentionally paused at the entrance of the marquee, he did not try to stop her. Inside the marquee, her legs got heavier with each step she took closer to her bed. She wondered if he was still standing outside or if he had already left.
