"If there is a chance his killer is still out here, then we should find him," Levina responded in defiance.
"It is not safe out here Lev. It is dark and I do not have my sword," he replied as gently as he could as he struggled to keep his irritation in check. He did not want to lash out at her, but if she continues insisting he may not be able to stop himself.
"The man trying to kill you could be here right now and you want to leave? We should …"
"Leave! We should leave! You are not a soldier Levina, you are just a woman. He could easily kill you!" he barked. Hurt flashed across her eyes and was quickly replaced by defiance.
Wordlessly, she brushed past him and started walking back the way they came. She was fuming with anger, but she could not let it show. She did not need anyone's protection, certainly not Lucien's. He was already doing a terrible job of keeping himself safe.
