As soon as he felt her gaze on him, he turned immediately, but she looked away, returning her gaze to the book.
Levina felt her heart jump when he caught her staring. She felt bad for giving him the cold shoulder, but that was the best she could do to keep him from trying to get close to her. He had a way of blurring her strong will to keep her distance, even without trying.
She looked up in surprise when, in a swift movement, he moved from his side of the carriage to hers.
"Lev? Is something wrong?" he asked.
She tried to act normal. "Yes. Why?" she replied, returning her gaze to the book. Lucien snatched the book from her and tucked it behind him.
"You know what I'm talking about. Did I do something wrong? If I did, tell me, and I'll apologize."
She sighed. "I just think it's best we keep our distance."
