Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 40(PRINCESS JENNA)

Now let's move on to our next lecture," the voice said. "We shall talk about the reasons why no one should separate me from my husband."

"HUSBAND!!!" Me and Jenna shouted at the same time.

We were both caught off guard by the sound of a low growl. It seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Suddenly, a huge shadow emerged from the fog, its red eyes glaring straight at us.

WHACK!!

"Husband!!"

The wind was knocked out of me as she pierced through the air like a missile and landed in my arms. I smiled bitterly as I noticed something I hadn't seen before, most of the beasts had books open to the same page in front of them.

'What have I done to myself?' I thought, ignoring the vampire's barrage of questions and wondering when and where she had produced the textbooks from. Then, the image of the fanatic old man came to my mind. 'Damn that old man.'

After our little 'reunion' we continued our search for the rest of us.

"So, care to share your secret to commanding hordes of monsters and controlling the fog ?" I asked Lena, who was clinging onto my back like a koala.

She just shrugged and said, "I have no idea. I was just super angry that I couldn't find you, and next thing I knew, everything around me was shaking in fear."

We continued moving through the fog, and I kept wondering how Lena had pulled it off. It certainly wasn't a skill - if it was, I would have seen it already. Lena kept humming happily, increasing her grip on me while Jenna remained surprisingly silent. As I turned to look at her, I noticed an uncomfortable expression on her face.

_______

A pair of reptilian eyes illuminated a dark room, watching the movements of three figures.

"Ah, the lass found out. She is worthy of this one's inheritance. Let's get her of that place."

__________

After a short wait for Jenna to regain her bearings, we began moving again. The beasts seemed to have regained their bravado and were once again attacking us. I sighed heavily.

Just as we were settling back into our previously slow-paced stroll through the fog, it turned into a race for dear life as the beasts seemed to seek revenge for the humiliation Lena had caused them. I dodged a claw swipe from the giant beast that Lena had whacked earlier. The beast roared and looked at me with a gaze full of hatred as it chased us.

'WTF? Why are you looking at me? I wasn't the one who hit you,' I thought, as I tried to run at full speed - or at least I tried to, but the damn lazy vampire clung to me tightly, refusing to get off me no matter what.

'Come on, can't you see my life is in danger here?' I lamented inwardly.

CLICK!

I stopped running and turned back to look at Jenna. She was enveloped in a red light - she must have triggered a trap. I ran forward to pull her away. She normally would have respawned in a few hours if anything happened, but I wasn't sure that would happen here. Jenna stretched out her hand, a frightened expression on her face - it was the first time I'd ever seen her look like that. The light's brightness continued to increase as Jenna struggled to move from her position.

As I reached her location and stretched out my hand to pull her out, she disappeared.

Half an hour later, I was finally able to leave the floor. I walked down the stairs to the next floor, dejected. I couldn't feel Jenna's existence anymore. I checked my status screen, and her name was greyed out.

"Damian, you finally got here," said Emma's voice.

I turned to the direction of her voice and saw her and the rest of the group. I snorted and raised my hand.

[PERPETUAL LIGHTNING JUDGEMENT]

The smell of charred corpses filled the air as I walked forward.

" You have to do better than that to trick me"

[???? PERSPECTIVE]

My head felt like it was about to split open as I walked together with my family through the gate assigned to the royal family only. As we reached the end of the passage, I heard the announcer shouting.

"Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer said, "let us welcome our king, the only dragon who has completely mastered the way of the sword, the one and only dragon sword emperor, King Gladius Dragoth!"

"OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!" The entire arena shook from the cheers of the spectators as the king made his way to the largest throne, located in the highest part of the arena.

"And his wife and most trusted battle companion, the most beautiful weapon master, Arsena Dragoth," the announcer continued.

"YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!" The noise reached a fever pitch as a breathtaking beauty graciously walked to the second-largest throne beside the king.

The announcer kept calling the names of my brothers and sisters until it was the turn of me and my twin sister. "And now, the last but not the least: the twin dragons of the Drakia Hegemony.

First, the assassin princess who uses one of the most unorthodox weapons for battle, the first ever close combat class to use a fan for battle - Dragon Princess Janeeeet!!!

" YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH"

"And her sister, the dragon mage with one of the highest physical stats you can get for a mage. If you think her defense is too strong, just accidentally hit her reverse scale, then you'll know the true meaning of overwhelming. Welcome, Princess... JENNAAAAA!!!"

"YEEAAHH!!!" I already expected that - my cheers have always been the lowest. No matter how much people try to make me look good, people have always seen me as a failure.

I was a mage who could barely match my peers in spell casting. I've always had to depend on my abnormal physical constitution to battle.

SIGH!!

[INFILTRATION SUCCESSFUL]

' what's this?' I asked myself
