An angel. That was the first thing I saw, her beautiful hair was as white as snow, yet pure. I don't know much, but all I remember was…
…dying.
I could vividly remember the taste of iron, blood gushing out my stomach while I laid on the ground, alone. Black boots appeared in front of me while I lost my consciousness. I was stabbed, without a word spoken nor an introduction.
But right now, I'm not sure if I was dead or not. I looked at the angel, mesmerized by her beauty. Amethyst eyes paired with her divine white hair. Her gentle eyes were enough to comfort such a lonely man like me.
"I'll name you…" She said while smiling looking at me as if I was some type of treasure. Believe me, I'm not. For as long as I have lived, I've always been alone.
Alone.
I stared at the woman. A part of me hoped that this someone would be by my side forever. I raised my hands, stretching it but only to no avail as my hands were small, extremely small in fact.
My eyes looked at my arms. A baby's arms? I looked at it, and the woman smiled. "Yes, I'll name you Shusei." Shusei means primary star doesn't it? Shusei? Huh?
Was this reincarnation? What did I do to receive this? Can I finally redo my life? Can I…? A part of me hoped that this wasn't just a dream, that this wasn't going to just go away like all of the people in my life.
In the first place, it was my fault. I was too greedy, too ambitious, unknowing of who was around me. And it got worse, I didn't know at that time, the problems piled up until I was left with only my memories to regret.
"Shusei. Mom will protect you!" She said in a cheerful tone, ecstatic of my existence. No, don't be… In the end I might just be another failure…
…
Years passed, and the only thing I did was simply read, eat, sleep. Knowledge was power, they say, but the more I learn, the more I realize that this world full of magic and swords was just as flawed as the otherworld was.
Nothing is perfect, I should have realized that. But the imperfect exists, the one that can never do things perfectly. A man can do a lot through hard work, but one day, they'll also reach their limits.
My mom, her name is Kosetsu Yukihara, which means that I'm Kosetsu Shusei. A very entrancing name isn't it? I stared at the wall while I sat on the couch. Mom was worried for me, worried about my behavior. I barely go outside after all.
As I stared at the wall my mom approached me. "Shu what's wrong? You're staring at the wall once more." She asked me but I didn't reply, I only looked at her. "You look tired, what time did you sleep?" I slept on time, my eyes became like this.
When I was a kid in my past life, I was full of energy, a small offspring, a hope for the future. Yet this hope quickly turned into dread. In the end my eyes became dull, and I always looked tired.
"I slept on time. I'm fine." My mom frowned, still concerned about me despite my words.
Magic existed in this world. My mom could use magic, unfortunately she wasn't a proper mage. Everybody has mana inside them, you can use them to strengthen your muscles, turn it into a shield or famously use magic formulas to create a spell.
I stared at my hands, I can control mana, unfortunately my body is too weak to hold spells. But I could strengthen or reinforce my body, although since I'm still a child my mana pool is extremely tiny.
But mana control was such a simple thing, like shaping clay in your palms. I opened my hand and I created a small simple tornado above my palms.
I stared at it before dispersing by closing my hands and staring at the wall again. My mom had a bookshelf, which she keeps all the books. I've always taken an interest in magic and tried to study it, unfortunately the other books are too high up on the shelf, so I needed a plan. But as a baby, I can hardly do stuff.
I sighed before looking out the window. Maybe going outside will help…
