Chapter 8 - Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil

Lara waits for Ezra to finish the strengthening potion before bringing up the situation with Lily not wanting to ruin his concentration. She looks through his materials finding a large garnet stone to use for the amulet. It would take her and Ezra all night to make the amulet but she knew the loss of sleep would be nothing compared to losing the girl to the evil trying to possess her.

Finishing the tedious process Ezra looks up to find Lara sifting through his materials "Needing something," he asks his sibling while stretching his back. Lifting her eyes to glance at her brother she grabs some quartz and a piece of obsidian before chanting a encantation of purity over the materials. "Who is is needing a protective amulet", he asks quickly observing his sister.

"Lily, there is a dark spirit trying to possess her. It tried a few moments ago and I'm afraid at the measures it will take if it was to succeed. I felt it when she was dropped by the dragon which was why I wasn't to concerned if she fell to har death", Lara admits. Ezra gives her a look of complete disbelief and shock. "If you had felt the darkness you would understand Ezra. I've only felt evil like that one other time and that was before the death of the Sorcerer Gartino. You remember the countless innocents he slaughtered because he simply didn't like the way they spoke? I could not in good conscience allow that to happen again. I don't know where Lily came from but its highly likely that that spirit was latched onto her before. Its probably a blessing she can't remember her former self. There's no telling what she may have done", Lara explains to her brother.

"Why didn't you mention this to me before. Don't you think I have a right to know", he questions angrily before grabbing a silver chain and dipping it in a purity solution.

"I would have told you if you weren't so involved. You obviously can't be objective when I comes to her so I wasn't going to tell you my suspicions in case you were fooled. I told you in the very beginning to not get to attached and this is why. Once a evil spirit has made you a host its hard to keep from its clutches. This amulet will help but we will have to trap that darkness and burn it in the full moons light. It's not going to be an easy thing to overcome. Lily doesn't want others knowing because she is embarrassed so if you could keep it to yourself that I've told you that would be great", she finishes explaining before dropping on the ground crossing her legs and getting ready to enter a meditation flow to divert half of her energy to finishing the protective amulet.

As the brother and sister take their attention and focus it on the job at hand Lily reads her magic book distractedly. The voice had felt oddly familiar to her, like it was someone she knew well. But the feeling that took hold of her when she heard the voice was so sinister and smothering she felt like she would surely lose consciousness. She lays the book down to her side abandoning all thoughts of trying to read any further. Her thoughts go back to the first thing she remembers upon waking. The blue sky, the fluffy clouds, the hushed voices of the people who found her. She also remembers hearing a shrill cry that had rattled her brain and no one else had reacted to it. Had it been the same voice? Why was it so angry?

Feeling exhausted she doesn't wait to eat before falling asleep. The events from earlier had completely drained her and made her anxious on how everyone would react to her. Would she be treated like a pariah and exiled from the group to keep the group safe from the evil spirit?

"They'd be better off with out you, you know. Less rations and more pay to go around. Not to mention they wouldn't have to look over their shoulder to babysit you which would be a great improvement", the voice hisses and the the pond that she had been staring at fades into darkness being replaced by a castle surrounded by guards. In front of the castle was several groups of commoners dressed in filthy rags. Their hands were bound as were their feet as well as they sat on their knees.

"Please you majesty, I'm not for sure what I've done but I beg for your forgiveness my wonderful Queen", an old man pleads his hands press together as if saying a silent prayer.

"Your mistake was thinking you were worthy to come into the palace walls trying to sell your worthless wares. You make my palace look deplorable", a familiar voice says from up top on the castle wall. "Hopefully in the next life you want be an embarrassment to my kingdom. Guards execute him at once", she commands cruelly. Lily looks on horror at seeing an axe come down on the man's neck severing his head that rolls onto the bloodied ground. Lily looks up at the castle wall to see the queen peek over and shock makes her legs buckle. There grinning with sadistic satisfaction is herself, her own eyes locked on her laughing.

"No", Lily gasps scrambling backwards and suddenly the castle and everything is gone replaced by the pond she was at earlier. Her chest rises and falls quickly as she hyperventilates. It was just a nightmare right? It wasn't real it was just a horrible vision brought about by the fear and paranoia she felt she assures herself trying to regain composure. She rocks back and forth her arms tight around her as if trying to keep herself from falling apart. Suddently a necklace is dropped around her neck and Lara and Ezra sit on each of her sides.

"Its ok Lily, your not alone and that spirit will not take you", Lara promises seeing the fear gathered in the girls tearful eyes. She pulls Lily into a big hug while giving her brother a meaningful glance. She would do everything in her power to help keep Lily from the darkness.
