Chapter 10 - Glass Trolls

When Lily opens her eyes she panics at first seeing nothing but black. Her panic however subsided when she realizes someone had laid a clothe over her eyes to block out the light. Lily removes the thin dark piece of fabric and squints when the bright sunlight hits her eyes. She blinks a few times before realizing she is still laying where she had collapsed previously. She goes to sit up but firm hands keep her from raising. She looks back shocked not having noticed anyone beside her.

"You need to stay still for a little bit Lily. You exhausted your magic levels and that's put a strain on your body. Lara went to grab a revitalization syrum that will help your body recuperate faster", Ezra's concerned voice informs her. She looks around on the ground and sees Torin laying still with a hand over his face.

"Is Torin okay", Lily asks remembering his cries from earlier and Lara's petrified expression. She watches as a smile makes its way on Ezra's face as he nods in confirmation.

"He's doing a lot better. He had some internal bleeding but after two vials of healing potion his body is good as new. He just needs to rest now", Ezra says before getting up to meet his sister halfway. "I'm going to get Lily and Torin a taragorn fruit. It will make them a little drowsy which will force them to relax", Ezra says stopping his sibling to tell her where he's going. Lara just nods and goes to give Lily the revitalization syrum.

Drinking the lime green liquid Lily's face scrunches in disgust, gagging a couple of times before she is finally able to drink the entirety of the flask. Instantly her body feels like it is buzzing and that if she wanted she could run a marathon the urge to move around only grew making the girl feel fidgety.

"You're going to feel a little jittery and hyper for the next few hours so Ezra went to get you a fruit thats going to counter act that. It's important for your magic system to rest for at least a day before trying to use it again. Using magic before your magic vessels can heal properly could cause scarring to your system which would prevent you from ever being able to expand your magical reserves", Lara informs Lily while pulling Lily's hair into a neat braid. "Thank you for helping Torin the way you did. I froze up, I've never done that before. I'm just so thankful you was here today to keep him from getting gravely injured, so thank you so much", Lara says appreciatively with tears in her eyes. She had been so worried about Torin in the moment it had been like her body had literally shut down. She loved that elf more than he would ever know.

After Ezra gets back and gives Torin and Lily each a half of the targorn fruit the two injured and slightly intoxicated group members are put in the back of the cart where they drift into an eight hour snooze.

Lara looks at the trolls she had silenced hours ago and finally decides on what spell to use on the tree trouble makers. "Parvulus vitrium", she shouts pointing her staff at the three angry trolls. A blue flash of magic soars from its tip and the trolls squirm being bathed in the rays. They begin to shrink before turning into tiny little porcelain figurines. "These will look lovely on the fireplace mantle when Torin and I settle down and build a house", she tells Ezra who rolls his eyes laughing at his sister's souvenirs.

"We're getting closer to Obitus Forest. The werewolves have been particularly savage as of late to outsiders. The queen ordered us to deliver a message to them, if they don't agree to her terms inside the scroll she's given us orders to to take care of the whole pack", Lara says quietly. Ezra looks up shocked by her words. They never really had to deal with the thoughts of taking out a whole tribe. That would mean everyone the young, old, sick, healthy just everyone and Ezra couldn't believe the queen would order such a task.

"Even the children", Ezra asks disgusted and Lara replies with a nod looking uneasy as well. "Surely you told her she had the wrong people because I'm not willing to kill children and the old who can not protect themselves", he says slightly raising his voice. Lara gives him a look of warning, a silent command to lower his voice.

"We do what the queen orders Ezra. it is our duty to her and our land and we must follow her will", she repeats coldly as if the words had been hammered into her very existence. Ezra frowns at her disappointedly and walks to the cart to steer their supplies and sleeping friends to their next destination. He hopes that the werewolves will form some sort of agreement with the queen because he is not about to slaughter a whole pack like she had ordered. He's still in disbelief that his sister would even consider it. They had never willingly killed anyone innocent. Yes, he knew the queen's words were absolute to the kingdom but he wasn't about to let her taint his soul with evil. He checks on his passengers who are both snoozing contentedly. He was proud of Lily's accomplishments today she had done more than they figured she would be capable of and saved Torin's life. It was quite clear to him that with out that dark spirit that sought after Lily that she was just a ray of light.

The path winds and curves every which way as they get closer to Obitus Forest and the air seems like it grows heavier and stale. Torin and Lily who have woken up watch the path readily. He knows Lara would never tell Torin of the queen's orders because he would outright refuse in a split second. He doesn't serve their queen anyways considering he wasn't from Hestia to begin with. He served his own King, King Titus, who had allowed him to leave the Celestial Kingdom when he had met Lara who was carrying out a quest for the queen. Torin only followed the woman he loved.
