Chapter 8 - Meeting (1)

Gratefulness filled Lucas' chest as he founds out that the classroom is not yet filled with too much students.

He advances to his usual spot: the back row of the class where the troublemakers settled in which is the stereotype. Lucas disagrees with this mindset. Back row students are much more than that. Students reside here are those who could get away with anything though, one should just watch out for the famous flying chalk aimed at you. Survival instincts are required for a person to hold on.

Lucas enjoys staying at the back. He could do anything he wants. The teachers does not care that much since he could get the highest marks even when he slept in the class. He might be sleeping but his ears are perk up in listening to the discussion.

Placing his bag on his the side, he moves his table in his comfort. Beside him, Owen catches up. Panting heavily, wiping his sweat on his forehead.

"Sheesh, you walk so fast Lucas. I could not catch up that much.''

''Shortie.'' He mumbles loud enough for Owen to hear.

Owen froze. Eyes bulging before narrowing towards his direction. Gone the sunny radiance coming from him, replaces with a storm brewing. Like a switch, the buzzing classroom quietens down as if the death angel had pass by. The nerve wrecking silence pricks at everyone's skin.

The duo blind to their surroundings confronts each other. Lucas is one of those people who does not know when to back down. Or should it be, if he wanted to, he would do it. Not a bull could stir his stubbornness.

Owen, on the other hand, if someone had insults him, he would pay it back ten times fold. He cannot tolerate such things. He dislikes what he dislikes.

Lo and behold, Owen smiles.

Lucas waits for him to speak. To hear the creative insult Owen can spout. Before they could have a beef with each other, their class monitor inserted himself, trembling in fear. Who would not? Two from the powerful families are fighting at each other in front of their eyes. The gun powder smells powerful that made them gulp in nervousness.

An accident might occur. They do not like that to happen.

''Class monitor?" Owen shifts his gaze away from Lucas.

The hands of Andrew appear to be clammy. Heart beating to fast that might cause a cardiac arrest. Receiving the gaze is not fun.

Andrew could only muster up his courage.

''Please don't fight here.'' Andrew states firmly despite the trembling of his hand. He places it at his back to go unnoticed. He needed to show his authority as a class monitor.

Owen gestures a surrender. He shoots a pointed look at Lucas which he complies also. He raises both of his hands like Owen did.

''Relax class monitor. We won't fight.''

Not here. Both thought at the same time.

''We were just having fun.'' Owen explains revealing a toothy grin.

Everyone puts their guard down.

''If that is so, please continue.'' Andrew whispered. Albeit voice soft, he watches the two pointedly walking to his friends backward and then he removes his focus away from them.

Lucas chuckles. Owen sits beside Lucas seemingly to pat Lucas shoulder. He really had pat forcefully. The pain jolted Lucas from his sit.

Damn, Owen with his strength.

A hiss spilled from Lucas' mouth. His fault too. He should not made fun of Owen's height.

''Silly, we have the same height." Owen utters.

Right. The same. Why could Lucas did not think of that?

His energy depleted from almost arguing with Owen. Lucas slumps his body on his desk after viewing the clock hanging on the wall.

Thirty minutes more before the flag ceremony. Great, he could still sleep.

Lucas nestles down, dead to the world. No matter how much the noise is, he wandered towards his dreamland.

Adrian squints his eyes. His hand shielding the sun beam hitting.

"Today is so hot." His friend, Kristoff mumbles in irritation.

Sweat have been sliding from their backs. The crowd was not helping at all. A nuisance in Adrian's case.

''Why is everyone waiting outside?'' Adrian complains, huffing and wiping the sweat on his forehead.

''I think they were waiting for you?'' Kristoff offers an explanation.

Adrian cannot help himself but frown. The heck? Why would they be waiting for him? He is not obliged to do anything for them. He shrugs it off. For a few minutes, he let it pass until he could not take it anymore.

He marches, not waiting for his friends to catch up. Adrian whisk away from the crowd not knowing, the crowd has been waiting for this moment.

When he was gone from their sight, the crowd began to follow his footsteps. Kristoff shakes his head. His friend sometimes is unaware of his impact to his schoolmates.

Adrian bypass corridors. Various person with the student council logo etched on their shirt, running around to accommodate them. He slightly gives a smile towards one, to thank her for her guidance albeit, he receives only a swift glance.

He was not bad with the directions so he turns around and finds a cozy spot to rest his eyes. Adrian had not completed his sleep. He twisted and turned on his bed, arouse with uneasiness brimming in his heart.

New environment is making him uneasy. Like the saying, 'A mountain cannot accommodate two tigers.' Adrian has not met the tiger of his rival school. Though, his name has been going around like gossip. He has not seen the man itself.

A dreamless night had happened to him. With that, he really needed to catch up with his sleep. No one will find him here. He is sure of it. He climbs up, grabbing one of the branches to make his way up. He picks a sturdy branch to sit on and then he made himself comfortable. Pulling out a handkerchief from his pockets, he places it on both of his eyes blocking his sight.

Though, his sleep did not last that long.
