Chapter 2 - Unexpected News With Almost An Accident In Between (1)

"Lucas!" the other shouts in exasperatedly.

He can already imagine his friend scratching his head in annoyance because of his attitude. Lucas licks his chapped lips to moisten it.

"Okay. I'm sorry. Then what news you would share with me?" Lucas impatiently asks, his patience thinning because he still has a lot of things to do.

The voice quietens down. Knowing Lucas, he really is an impatient lad.

Lucas knows his friend — Owen Almond — can grasp his demeanor.

Actually, Owen was his only friend that stayed true to his nature. With the ups and downs in his life, he was the only one who was there for him. The true him.

Owen was the type of person who has a friendly nature. He can be friends with anyone in a few minutes. His connections are far fretched that one can become muddle because of how large it is.

But do not be fooled by his appearance. Owen might be smiling and laughing with you, yet he does not treat you on the same level as friends.

Anyhow, he has this protective barrier the same as him. Being in a wealthy household forces you to become like this. Having trust issues and all of that.

Moreover, their family are friends. Obviously, they were already linked before they knew it.

There was still one family they had friends with, however, Lucas does not know what reason that made the two families broke up unhappily. It might be a story for later.

"You know..."

Lucas waits but before he could hear the next words, the call was cut off.

He still did not comprehend what was happening...

Did his friend just..

Just end the call?

The audacity.

A vein throb in his forehead as the anger flared up.

He dials the number again.

Owen did not pick up.

Once more, he dials.

Still, did not pick up.

He runs a hand through his bangs in frustration. Owen is playing with him as a revenge.

Damn him.

He wanted to put down his phone, but a ping of notification halts his next action.

From Owen:

Lucas, ik you're curious about the news. Sorry, but I'm in a middle of a party. How about we meet in a cafe we always go? :)

Right, he forgot to add. Owen is a party maniac.

To Owen:

Fine.

Lucas then proceed to change his home clothes into something casual.

-

Lucas casually pulls out a comfy shirt from his enormous closet. The racks were aligned by color, which was easier for him to pick clothes. As fussy as he is, today is not the day. The clothes he will wear were depending on his mood.

For now, though, he wanted to wear black clothes because of his idleness. He does not think too much about the occasion. Besides, a meet up with a friend differs from meeting with his future love one.

Checking himself in the mirror, a smile graces his face, releasing a sunny ambience. Eyes bending into a curve and glowing with happiness.

Your easy going boy next door.

Lucas scrunches his nose, resulting in making himself cuter and loveable. Yet, the man himself disdains this look of his.

The pure looking nature was shattered by his slight change of action.

His orbs, emitting a naïve and demure look, were gradually replaced by an expression of danger. His gaze sharpens callously. A bright fire dances in his iris, shaping a malicious, handsome devil that might take your life at any moment.

The lips, upturned into a delicate smile, are gone. There, a smirk shrouded in darkness was visible.

A tongue pokes out a bit, completing this dangerous look. Lucas nods in satisfaction. This. This was the look he was going for so that the people later will stay away from his vicinity. He dislikes the people being closer to him except some persons he likes to be with.

Now then, he pats his sides.

-

Lucas sneakily cranes his neck around, checking if the family members are present in the hallway. Luckily, there was no one.

He walks quietly, making sure his footsteps are not loud lest his presence might be known.

Why is he acting like this?

Well, his family members are a bunch of noisy gossipers. He cannot even fathom why on earth they are like that? Especially when he is the youngest, they will be fussy with a lot of things, rendering him speechless.

Considering their attitudes, Lucas always makes sure whenever he leaves the house, he will go unnoticed.

Alas, poor him. The butler says otherwise.

"Young master."

He flinches, a hand clutches the shirt where the heart is located, mouth agape and a frightening scream almost echoes throughout the mansion.

"Young master?" The butler tilts his head in confusion, yet the corner of his lips twitch in undisguised laughter.

Lucas scowls in return.

"Hey, you almost gave me a heart attack." He complains.

"I'm sorry, young master. It was your fault. You were acting like a thief and I was alerted by it." The butler expresses his apology.

Lucas pouts in response.

His frightening ambience restored into a child being caught doing something bad.

Everyone seeing their young master acting like this cannot help themselves but smile in amusement.

Even the people working for the Allard family are fond of their young master. Most importantly, their masters are not the same as other rich households.

For instance, Butler Moran had suffered so much from the families he had worked under. They were demanding and conceited, filled with arrogance and not caring about the insignificant lives beneath them.

They act like they were the emperors and empress ruling the word. Moran, thanks to his skills and luck, had escaped multiple times. With his proficient negotiating tactics and clever tongue, he evaded the misfortunes.

He thought when he entered in this job once more, Moran would face the same dilemma. However, he was proven wrong. Everyone treated him kindly.

Not even one had disrespected him, which in return, his loyalty had been acquired by them. He was blessed to have them as superiors.

Moran taps the floor with his shoe in contemplation.

Lucas widens his eyes. Moran only taps his foot in a rhythmic sound, as if he had plans to tell his parents about his whereabouts.

His forehead began to sweat, and a nervous laughter escapes his mouth.

"Moran, hehehehhe. Don't think about it." Lucas pleaded.

He pushes his bottom lip to form a pout, his eyes widen to make him look a harmless cat. If he was really a cat, his tail will be wagging right now to appease him.

Moran, spotting the change, instantly wanted to tease him more, but he figured the young master will be late for his appointment. He does not want that to happen.

Thus, he offered him to drive him to his destination.

"Young master, don't worry. I won't snitch you to your parents. Do you need a ride?"

Lucas sighs in relief. He wipes the sweat on his forehead.

"No need Butler Moran. The place is just a walking distance from here. Besides, I need to exercise." As he finishes his words, he dashes off, earning chuckles from his surrounding.

He was afraid, okay? After all, Butler Moran is his father's left hand. His whereabouts are sometimes known to them.

Being monitored like that is pretty normal in his life, particularly some events happened in the past that made them tighten the surrounding securities.

Good thing, it was gradually reduced when no danger happened frequently.

Lucas was grateful for that.

He slows down his speed as he walks on the pavement. A gratifying feeling emerges when he admires the trees swaying in the direction of the wind, a flock of birds chirping, and folks doing their own thing.

The wind blew slowly, gently ruffling his hair and clothes; as he walked, a small, pleased smile spread across his face, unknowingly making those around him turn their heads to take in the view as if he was a part of the scenery.

Their mansion was located in a village where the safety was guaranteed. Only the wealthy can have their homes stationed here. This is the reason why only a few mansions are occupied by families.

Furthermore, luckily enough, there was a cafe around here where he could pass the time.

As he was getting closer to his destination, he caught the sound of some howls from his rear. He cranes his neck and broke into cold sweats when he almost crash into a fast moving bicycle.

He avoids the danger just before it comes and sees a group of teenagers running in front with terrified looks on their faces, trying to catch the person riding the bicycle.

Lucas thumps his chest.

He almost got into an accident! Damn, misfortunes really are just lining up to piss him off. He scrutinizes the group of boys in front of him.

A word that could describe them surfaces.

Rowdy.
