Chapter 2 - Error 2

Patrick Willis POV

Date: June 20th, 2019

Location: Office, Sacramento

Seriously? As surprised as I am, I'm with Luke Wharton, the current Kings coach. We had just hung up the phone.

In the draft, two choices arise. Do you think we should bet on potential or imminent needs? This is a question where each person has a different answer. There is no correct answer except in the first choice but in our case, we had no choice in the first round; our only two options were picked 40 and 55. Refrain from expecting anything exceptional; you might as well sacrifice them.

Now another question arises, who should take? We had asked our assistants who would be best for the team, and a specific name caught my attention.

Hector Herrera.

He has the distinction of being the second youngest player of this draft. But on closer inspection, he ticks quite a few boxes. Its main asset? With its hearing, not its tentacles, and a decent shoot. A big man with a good shot is always a good choice, but it's not just that.

It is a good rim protector, and its mobility, given its size, is incredible. And he's a good passer. I understand that he was small-forward in the past, which explains that.

His main problem is his need for muscle; given his physical characteristics, he has fewer rebounds. And he was in the NCAA second division. Even though he won the title, there is a world gap with the NBA. He has correctable flaws, and since he is the youngest in this draft, he has nothing to lose. This is the reverse version of Titus.

"Luke hit the jackpot."

Luke nodded

"Even if it's not an all-star, have at least one qualified backup that's already good. I'll see what I can do with it this season, but you know my situation; Raj can fire me if I get bad results, and so can you. »

He's not wrong; it's been since 2007 that we haven't qualified for the playoffs. It's been three years that I've been here... Damn, I think I made a mistake.

"We have to do our job until the end; if Raj ejects us at this point, it's for the big picture."

Let's wait and see.
