GPP and SPP system

GPP stands for General Physical Preparation, and SPP stands for Specific Physical Preparation.

General physical preparation can be identified as the ability of athletes to engage in any random exercise and perform well. I prefer the ability of athletes to be physically prepared for any practice. You can think of this as a combination of strength, agility, speed, and endurance.

How ready are you for a random physical challenge? That is the GPP issue.

Specific physical preparation can be described as "an athlete's ability to perform a specific movement or series of movements".

Using the words of the definition, "physical preparation of athletes for specific movements or series of movements", how prepared are you to face a specific event or movement in your sport? That is the question the PPS is asking.

Some sports require more PPS than others. An athlete can have high levels of PPM while having low levels of PPS, and vice versa. For example, a cross fitter who has a good GPP with a certain event in his competition using poor technique and form, the muscles required for this exercise are weak areas, or they are not used or comfortable with the movement.

On the other hand, an athlete may have good PPS and a lack of GPP. It could be a quarterback, who is very good at throwing the ball and has decent feet but lacks strength and conditioning. Good for him, he can throw the ball. But in football, the game is very random. You must be physically prepared to make random moves to avoid tacklers and get out of the pocket.

Same in basketball. You could have a great shooter who can do 3-pointers all day, but can he move? Is it agile and fast? Does he have strength and endurance? How can he handle a random physical challenge?

Now that you understand GPP and SPP, the next important question to ask is, "Where is your weakest?" To become a more complete athlete, you need to work on your weaknesses.

But these are not its only functions. The system is like a medical center, it also evaluates the risk of injury, the total workload of a match, training, the physical condition during the matches, and the state of fatigue. Injuries are the enemy of the high-level athlete; the system does not prevent injuries but reduces risks. That's why Hector will use the preseason to strengthen his condition and fitness to avoid a crippling injury, especially during the rookie season.
