Chereads / The Beauty of the Beast / Chapter 19 - 19

Chapter 19 - 19

"As a day well spent brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death."

- Leonardo da Vinci

In the middle of the night, I had woken up, feeling sweat dripping down my body, I had to get up to let some fresh air hit me,

Once I opened my curtains to open the windows, I realized it isn't the middle of the night, the sun hadn't risen yet, but I could see the shine of it already,

I opened the windows and let in a deep breath,

The cold air grazed my soft cheeks as if they were daggers against them,

I had tried to stretch while I was in front of the window, but an unsettling feeling had set in again,

My body was being conscious of its surrounding, even the sunrise couldn't help to make the feeling of being watched less creepy,

I had a very bad feeling deep in my gut,

and my guts are usually right,

the cold fresh air swooshed my hair around, I didn't fail to catch sight of something move deep in the shadows in the forest, it was a place that belonged to Cian, who other than Cian could be there?

It could have been simply Cian there, but that's not the feeling I would have gotten if he had secretly watched me,

No, this feeling was not a pleasant one,

This one is when your every action is watched to see a flaw in, so they could attack once there is an opening,

With the eerie air of the unknown wrapped around me, I pulled my black cloak out, hiding my whole body to not be identified, I pulled my big hood over my head, I decided to crawl out of my window with my twin blades attached to my wrists,

The moment my feet were about to touch the ground, I had whispered a spell to slowly put me on the ground.

Easy spells could be learned having the right amount of power even for a human, so I could easily do this anytime, it was quicker than walking,

Looking around, I slowly crept through the shadows of the forest,

The forest was darker than the outside since the sun hasn't risen yet, but to begin with, the forest looked like a place where no sun could shine through, the trees were overgrown, if you were barefoot you would feel the wild plants around your toes, very uncomfortably, I had no idea how Cian could shift here,

The trees swooshed and swayed as a strong wind passed through the silent forest, I had arrived at a small clearing, making my way to the middle,

I had nothing to lose, and I sure as hell wasn't scared of anyone,

I closed my eyes momentarily as I felt a presence surrounding me,

I opened my eyes under my hood, they could never identify me unless I willed it, of course in this case it wouldn't work for Cian, but this wasn't Cian,

They were other creatures,

There were 5 of them, at least 5 that I could see,

By the looks of it, the first one was a vampire, she had her fangs bare and her pale complexion gave it away, her red eyes glistening in the dark,

The second one was a werewolf, his half shifted body had gave away his identity as did his bulkiness,

The third one was a curious one, I hadn't seen one face to face, but his skin had been scaly like a fish, if I had to guess he came from the ocean, a merman,

The fourth one had a dark complexion, she was beautiful with grey eyes and fiery hair, the dark skin and fiery hair had given her identity away too,

Now the fifth one, her stare alone was icy, her blue eyes, white hair, her whole body looked like she came out of ice. She wasn't exactly hard to guess.

What they didn't know is that who they are facing isn't as kind as king Cian,

They all suddenly lunged at me,

these amateurs,

Smirking under my hood, I instantly stuck one of my twin blades in the head that belonged to the fire lady, and as she stared at her friends in shock, I had used her head as a way to get myself out of the group killing strategy, it just happened to be that I thought I needed a good grip to flip out of the group of idiots,

The werewolf screamed in agony,

"Oh, so that was your mate" I answered with humor in my voice to taunt him,

An expression of hatred rose through his eyes, he lunged at me, aiming for my heart,

I bet he thinks he could get my heart out,

Without moving from my place, I grabbed his other hand and cut of the one reaching towards my chest, the hand toppled away on the ground as he screamed in pain, this time for his hand,

"What is your business here, who dares to enter his majesty's property"

As the three others watched me, slowly backing away, trying to make it as secret as they could, shook their heads in terror as my other blade had met his right eye, my sharp blade stuck in his skull momentarily, I had managed to get his eye out of its sockets, the eye had stuck to my blade as I used my other hand to get it off of my blade,

I let him go, I wanted him to die slower than the others, to think there is hope for him that he would survive,

I ran towards the other three as they turned back to run away from me,

I had stabbed one of them quickly in the back where his spine was, then pushed him away hard on the ground, his head meeting a lucky rock, knocking him out instantly while he slowly bled out,

The two other girls had been running next to each other, pulling each other to run quicker than the other in hope to distract me, little did they know they are both in the palm of my hands,

I had quickly jumped towards them and caught up with them, I grabbed their hairs and slammed their heads to each others', one of them quickly passed out while the other one fell to the ground,

"Answer my fucking question, lowlife"

The white haired girl coldly stared at me, life slowly draining from her, her eyes rolled back as her mouth hung open with foam building up in her mouth,

She was dead,

I looked around her body, as I saw her hand clutching around something tightly,

I pried it open with so much force, cutting myself in the process,

She had a syringe in her palm with it completely empty, a drop of poison had seeped into my new wound,

It was nothing I couldn't handle, but it was going to hurt regardless,

I threw her away as I slowly stood up, the wind hitting my sweaty skin,

the wind had grown warmer so it seemed like it was past sunrise,

My hood slightly revealed my nose and lips, still covering my eyes, I didn't have to worry, it was coated with magic, my identity was hidden,

I heard a crunch behind me, and the small whiff of my mate's scent had hit me,

Cian was here and a magic cloak is not going to work on him,

I was a great distance away, he shouldn't be able to smell my scent, especially mixed with the masking scent I have on me, but I couldn't risk it,

I pulled my hood down further as my cloak swayed around with the wind, I couldn't risk it, he could catch my scent with how strong the wind is,

As quick as I had appeared, I had disappeared just as quickly, catching a brief sight of Cian as I made eye contact from afar with him, his godly carved face set into a dangerous scowl as he tried to catch me,

But I was gone,
