Chapter 56 - Pseudo-Behemoth 2

He looked into Itroth's soul before continuing.

"For a beast your level I know that you understand me, I do not want to kill you or your children. And the corpse of this beast should be more than enough evidence." He pointed over to the giant snake, he technically had other reasons to kill it but he wasn't going to tell her that. "It may be difficult for you to understand, but I cannot bear to see 3 innocent lives having to grow up in such a forest with no guardians, even if it is 3 beasts."

He spoke to the pseudo-behemoth, who was more than intelligent enough to understand him. He wasn't speaking English, but an ancient language that all those native to the new world understood. Those born here would know it instinctively, even humans, so he had no doubt that it could understand him.

'Thankfully I learnt this from Itroth. And that reminds me, I still have those 2 books and red crystal to look into. The crystal I still have no idea about, but the books I should have no issue understanding. But now is not the time for that.'

"And why should I trust you? You did kill that putrid being, but if you think I didn't notice your presence the moment you approached me you are sadly mistaken."

'Smart f*cker.'

"I was naturally waiting for the best opportunity to end it with one powerful attack. I am not confident in a head on collision with such a 'putrid being' as you refer to it as." While technically not the truth, he also wasn't lying.

Even if the poison wouldn't be an issue after being affected by it a few times, the body of such a beast was naturally extremely powerful. Not liking to fight physically didn't mean it didn't know how to, and if it did he would be flattened like a pancake.

"But let's save that for later. As I have said I couldn't bear to see such innocent beings die under my watch for no reason, and I have a method to save you. But naturally I need my own insurance."

The beast thought for a while before responding.

"And what might that be? I might not be able to recover from this, but with my strength I should be able to live for a year or two. At that point, while not the best, my children wouldn't be helpless to the nature of the forest."

'What a monstrous bastard, to live for two years when your body is literally melting from the inside out. Just how powerful is she really?'

With a surge of energy from him a flower appeared on his palm and as if pushed by the wind it landed on the giant nose of the beast. This one was green in color and corresponds to regeneration.

At this point the flowers had already grown fully, under such dense mana and rich 'soil', they would naturally develop quickly.

The normal regeneration skill would normally have no effect on such a powerful beast, it didn't even work on him, but under the effects of such a divine technique its potency skyrocketed.

Even so the one flower wouldn't do much, but it served as a proof of concept for the beast.

"I am certain that you can feel your body healing under the effects of this flower, and if you form a soul contract with me then I can naturally fix the rest of your body."

Finally his true intentions came to light, forming a soul contract. It was the same contract the he formed with the two eggs, which would leave her somewhat subservient to him.

"How brave of you, I've never met one before you but I have heard that humans are a bold bunch, and you seem to not be an exception."

She paused for a while before continuing. "Your mysterious technique has been intriguing, but let me ask you. For one with such a strong soul, forcefully forming a soul contract with me in this state should be trivial for you. Why go through this charade?"

"Because that would be counter intuitive, if I force such a thing on you then you would never truly be on my side. And with enough effort on your part, you should be able to break such a feeble contract on your own. But most importantly, what I am looking for is not an unwilling slave or a begrudged servant, but a true ally. If I force such a thing on you then that would never be possible now would it?"

Out of everything he had said thus far, this is the only part that wasn't part lie. He had been a part of many organizations that had a strict hierarchy and he knew exactly how they tended to work out.

No one would put any extra work in because they would have little to no chances of moving up, do what you are paid to do and go home. Why work more for the same pay, especially if someone comes in and surpasses you simply because they were sleeping with your boss.

If you treat people like they are replaceable, then they will act like they are replaceable.

He had never been in any one of them long enough to climb into any higher positions, not like they would give such a position to a child any way, to know just how such a culture would end, but it doesn't take a mana engineer to figure out the path such 'businesses' were taking.

So why would he use such a faulty method for himself? He could very easily force a contract onto her, but she would never accept it and grow to resent him each day and get to the point where she would break the seal and kill him on the spot.

The beast contemplated for a little bit more, but ultimately made up its mind.

"Under such circumstances I have no choice but to believe you human. But I have a condition, you must also form a contract with my children. I will not be separated from them."

That would only mean 3 more potentially powerful beasts under his wing in the future so he had no reason to deny such benefits.

"And if you harm my or my children then I will not hesitate to kill you on the spot, even if I have to deal with divine judgment."

"No harm will fall on you or your children intentionally from my own actions, on this I swear my soul."

When he said this there was a deep rumble that seemed to come from everywhere that ended just as quickly as it started, a sign that the will of the world acknowledged his swear and if he broke it then his soul would be dispersed.

Unless of course he was stronger than the will of the world, but his own strength and the strength of everyone in the new world was included in the power of the will of the world. Was such a thing as a part being more powerful than the whole possible?

Even if he was then he wouldn't be able to inhabit the new world as the laws would push him out, where he would go he had no idea but that didn't concern him for the time being.

He stretched out his hand to touch the head of the beast, but the moment he mobilized his soul power to form the contract, two beams of light shot out of his chest as countless green flowers bloomed all round the giant body.
