Fey was very confused at the reactions from her father and grandfather. Although she knew that Ray's method, called 'Flow' by those who strive to achieve it, was very sought after, she didn't know to what extent.
From Ray's perspective, she may be one of the most powerful people he had ever encountered, but in fact neither her nor the much more powerful John were at the point of noticing the shortcomings of the normal method of using mana.
They had long gotten accustomed to their mana core, how to add more mana to their core, how much to remove when using a spell, the delay of wanting mana to actually get it, and much more. It was going to take a long time and them getting a lot stronger to realize the faulty nature of it and start thinking of a more appropriate method.
If Ray was on the first step of one hundred to reach the starting line, then they were on step 50. Much farther ahead but not different in the eyes of someone who finished the race 5 times over.
If she had known just how valuable flow was, then she would have immediately handed Ray over to her grandfather to discover the secrets of it and tried much, much harder to keep him loyal to them.
No amount of the half-assed training she or her brother could provide would be enough to get Ray strong enough not only to keep himself alive, but explore the depths of flow so that her and her family would have a more clear path to follow.
In comparison, both her grandfather and father were at lap 10 and naturally knew how valuable flow was, so they immediately moved to secure the premises to ensure that this news wouldn't spread.
Her grandfather waved his hand and the transparent barrier that John had set up immediately became opaque and they were shrouded in darkness, before opening another portal and stepping into it. Her father started to glow with a soft white light that expelled the darkness, as to not leave his children blind.
"Who did you tell about this?" Her father asked her with the utmost seriousness. "How many know and when?"
Fey was still confused about why they were so anxious but still answered diligently "The only people that know about this are me, John and Gordon. As far as I know, no one else is aware. Can you tell me why this is so important?"
There was no one anywhere near here so she was lost as to why her grandfather set up such a powerful barrier around them, her guild members had long left the area as they no longer needed to shovel in more mana stones.
With a bit of relief on his face, he father answered. "I will leave it to your mother to answer that question but I'll need you to call Gordon over here. I have a few things to ask him."
Almost as if on cue, two people came stepping out of the portal her grandfather had opened. Standing next to him was a woman that was strikingly beautiful.
She had silver white hair, bright red lips and not one flaw on her pale white skin. Compared to her daughter she was more on the thin side but had a mature charm that made the curvy Fey seem like a chubby child in comparison. And like Fey her eyes were reptilian like but were green instead of red. Wearing an all white dress, she truly looked like an angel descended to earth.
"Father, is that the boy that you told me about?" Her voice was like that of chimes dangling in the wind as she pointed over to the still unconscious Ray.
"Yes, your daughter found him somehow and now he has caused this portal to open up here. If there is anyone who knows more about spatial magic than me it's you. The boy figured out how to use flow so I need to make sure that he stays alive."
She looked over lovingly to her daughter and said. "You have found a truly interesting one this time, do you think he can do it? All the others have disappointed you, what makes him different?"
As the three men looked at them confused Fey answered. "It's just a feeling, and after seeing his progress after a month I'm confident he can end our losing streak."
"Well if you say so, I hope for your sake that you are not wrong. And father, you should know that there is someone much more skilled than me in spatial magic." She looked over to her left "And here he is now."
"You flatter me, I truly do not deserve your compliments." A man dressed in an all black fitted suit appeared next to her.
"Gordon?" Fey stared at him, "You know my mother?"
He smiled back at her. "I'd say that I'm more than familiar enough with my own sister. And it's Frey, not Gordon."
"Frey? Sister?, then why.."
"I have my own reasons for following you for as long as I have, but the situation calls for me to show myself a bit more." He said as he gestured over to Ray. "That boy must have really taken what you told him about skills to heart, I've never seen someone deviate this far learning the inventory skill. What about you Freya."
"I was thinking the same thing, although that strange portal feels similar to a gate, it has much more in common with the inventory skill. You would be much more familiar with it than me though. You learned it from the book after all."
With a smile on his face he said "As a non-awakened person I indeed learned the inventory skill directly from the book and if I was to guess then I'd say that the boy was trying to do the say thing. The only difference is that I did so after many years of magic training and analyzing the book, the boy awakened only a month ago and has had no magic training."
Glancing over to the strange portal he continued. "I'm truly fascinated by the path that he took to achieve such a thing. Whereas I am fully aware of how dangerous skill books can be, he is none the wiser. My caution may have blocked the path to whatever he is doing now but I truly regret not being more spontaneous when I was younger."
"I still need to know why you guys are so" Fey, still confused, tried to interrupt her mother and apparent uncle's conversation, but was quickly interrupted by a sudden rumbling coming from Ray's body.
