Chapter 26 - Quick revenge

Grunting in pain, Ray was struggling to heal his wounds. Regeneration as a skill or a spell isn't omnipotent and while he was better at healing wounds than before, it wasn't to the point of instant rejuvenation.

Not only that but his mana was unstable, one of the drawbacks of flow was that the degree of accuracy and control over one's mana depends on the state of their body. Unlike having a mana core, the mana was literally a part of your body, so naturally when your body is injured your mana would be hampered.

Every part of the body affects every other part, if your calf muscles get torn, then not only would you not be able to walk, but throwing a simple punch would also be more difficult.

The impact he received shattered every bone in his left arm and cracked a few of his ribs, not to mention the blood loss and impact trauma on his organs. If it wasn't for steel skin, his arm would have been blown off with the rest of his bones turned to powder

"I'm gonna rip those bastards spines out and shove it up their asses." Ignoring the fact that he was trying to kill them, he was angry at them for injuring him so much. While he was accustomed to pain he certainly didn't like it, so being critically injured so soon after having to basically reconstruct his body left a bitter taste in his mouth.

The pain was even more so than when he woke up in the new world because his brain wasn't numbing any of it, he felt every fracture, every cut and every bone piercing through his flesh rather vividly. He was trying his best to not pass out and had he hit that rock at a weird angle, he would have died on the spot.

With the faint green glow and itchy feeling, he healed his body while using mana to pull his bones back into place, something he was oddly familiar with.

"Those two better not move before I rip their hearts out." Not wanting to spend too much time healing himself, as they might move on by the time he was done, he poured more and more mana into the spell and focused extremely hard as he pulled all of his bones into place at the same time. It hurt more doing it like this but he wasn't going to let the two of them get away.

With the strengthening of the spell his brown skin went from emitting a faint glow to lighting up his entire soul sea. His mana was being drained so fast that he quickly pulled the bone fragments together, but he didn't get enough time to retract all of his mana.

To his surprise instead of dissipating back into his bloodstream, the mana stayed inside his bones. If he wasn't in a rush he would have studied this unexpected effect in more detail, but he didn't want to waste anymore time.

Activating stealth his body disappeared as space seemed to warp around him as he appeared next to the rock he collided with. Looking around he saw the two hobgoblins riding the two chima, one of them injured, around the area looking for him.

From their perspective he managed to retreat before they could catch up to him so they were looking for clues of his escape. They didn't even consider him being too injured to fight back as his body wasn't there and a hit like that shouldn't affect someone who ventures into this part of the forest.

Not making the same mistake again, Ray pulled out one of the mandibles of the chima that he saved from before. He was going to throw it away as he couldn't eat it but decided against it. Keeping things in his soul sea didn't cost any mana as long as it wasn't alive so there was no penalty in keeping it.

Charging mana into the mandible he aimed at the head of the one on the healthy chima and threw it, this was something he had only seen John do on the corner of his eye on one occasion but he seldom forgets things like this.

Sensing the incoming doom of the flying mandible, the hobgoblin quickly dodged it and turned around to return fire. Unfortunately for him, Ray was still under full control of the mandible so he altered its flight and even sped it up. He couldn't react to the sudden increase in speed so he couldn't dodge in time, and just before the mandible came into contact with his head, Ray made it blow up.

He wouldn't be able to do this if his own mana wasn't present in the mandible as he wasn't good enough to control new world mana to such an extent. Along with being thicker and more potent, new world mana is many times more difficult to control. So much so that instead of the just over 100 meters that allowed him to see using mana, his mana sense was shrunk to just over arms length.

As for the explosion, making mana unstable and making it implode or explode is rather simple. There are many ways to do so with the simplest being to just shove a lot of mana recklessly over a short period of time into something for an explosion and doing the opposite for an implosion. While practicing control over mana a few days into his training, he accidentally lost control over the high density of mana leading to a small explosion.

He applied the same principle to the makeshift boomerang, making it much more lethal than a simple impact. The head of the hobgoblin practically vaporized and his limp body fell to the ground.

Seeing his companion fall lifelessly to the ground, the other hobgoblin was overcome with rage. Gathering all the strength in his body, he rocketed in the direction of the invisible assailant, killing the chima in the process, and swung his spear wildly. The dead hobgoblin was his brother so he was naturally angry, but Ray didn't know that nor would he care if he did.

It is a cruel world and if they didn't die then he would.

With no other option, Ray quickly used body strengthening and was covered in a bright light and his stats jumped up to 99.99 (because of his talent) but something seemed to prevent him from getting to one hundred.

Not having the time to figure out why, he dodged the spear that came flying towards his head and sent a punch back. His stealth was practically broken as he was most literally a lighthouse so it didn't take much time for the hobgoblin to find him.

Hitting him squarely in the face with steel skin, Ray felt like he was punching metal but still sent his victim flying. Grasping onto the spear that was now lodged into the ground, he poured more of his mana into it and threw it with all his might at the flying body and accelerated it using his mana.

Not being outdone, the hobgoblin readjusted himself using mana to brace for impact while mid air. While he couldn't fly, turning one's body is trivial and even a novice could do so.

Unfortunately for him, as he wasn't grounded the strength of his block was greatly weakened, so the spear made easy work of his body; going straight through his heart killing him on the spot. The spear kept going through 4 trees before being stopped and exploded into splinters when it did.

While crude the spear was still extremely sharp and with the power of his throw, even a rock would cut cleanly through the goblins body.

He walked up to the goblins body, collecting and killing the other chima on the way, and collected his body; but under the effect of body strengthening he saw something strange left behind.
