Chapter 1 - Encounters aren’t always easy

The sounds of heavy panting and smell of sweat mixed with ecstasy filled the dark hot room illuminated by the moonlight pouring in through the windows. Two bodies had become entangled with under the thin fabrics sheets, and slowly they disconnected themselves from each other's grasp. Laying adjacent, the two remained still for several moments as if to allow their hearts the time it required to settle from its rapid palpitations. In due time they slowly found the others hand and took hold in a sweet felt embrace that gave them great comfort.

"How did we even get here? I mean seriously, this was the last thing I ever could have expected." One said to the other with a giggle that could ensnare the heart with ease. "If I had to guess, I think I'd say it's due to how awful your food tastes." The other teased whilst sliding their head into their partners shoulder. "Wow! Ok, fine! You have to make breakfast then!" The two continued their playful banter together until they found themselves passionately engaged in a loving gaze with their partners eyes. Three little words on the cusp of their lips, yet remained unspoken as if both simply had no breath left to offer. In tandem they closed their eyes and pressed their lips so gently into each others, then held their hands together between themselves and fell asleep.

Clouds overhead gave the sky a cozy feel as well as providing a backdrop for the changing leaves of the trees along the walkway. The September breeze gave off a gentle chill to the bare skin of a young woman's face as if giving a soft peck on her cheek. Her softly curled shoulder length hair waved back in the wind while giving off a subtle hint of a cinnamon aroma. It was a caramel shade of brown highlighted by the burgundy beanie snug on her head. This young lady was dressed head to toe in warm cozy clothing. Her name was Mya Rosewell, a girl early in her 20's that had a very closed view of the world around herself. Taking some basic classes like language and math, she found very little to no real value in her own existence. 'Another day of barely existing in the back of a classroom. Yay me…' Her thoughts filled with lackluster reactions to the very repetitive lifestyle she leads.

Upon entering the large lecture hall for her first class, Mya found her untouched seat once again in the farthest corner by the window. The area around was barren as most students crowded the front or the area by the doors. Left to be forgotten inside the background, she set her supplies out on the cool wooden desk space in front of her. Late morning sunlight pierced through the windows of the room and greeted the space with natural lighting. Finding herself staring down toward the many people outdoors, a growing hint of longing filled her gaze. Releasing a deep breath from her lips, Mya rested her head flat on the cool surface of the desk. She began disassociating herself from the bitter feeling accumulating in her stomach. However, she was soon disrupted by the sudden thumping vibration of a book being dropped behind her on the table. Mya jolted to attention and faced this interruption. "Ah~ sorry bout that! Didn't realize it would be so loud." The culprit responsible for this was a tall girl who Mya had never met or seen before. She had black hair with yellow highlights that was styled in a swoosh to the left. The right side of her hair was shaved, and her arms were covered in tattoos. Mya also took note of the way this girl was dressed. A tight white crop with slits over the chest that revealed a black bra, black skinny jeans with ripped knees and a black heart choker. The two girls held their stares, each analyzing the other. What broke the tension between them was the arrival of the class professor calling for students to take their seats.

The lecture went on for an exhausting length, which was nothing unusual for this class. Mya would usually be spending this time on sleep, however with the new company, she found it difficult to do. The girl beside her had been sneaking glances every few minutes or so. This caused Mya some discomfort in more ways than one. Her thoughts filled with paranoia and anxiety about how she was being perceived. Finally unable to handle it any further Mya turned to confront her. "What?" She said with a sharp tone and glare to match. The girl gave a slight smirk and pointed at her own cheek. "What does…" Mya'a face grew deep red with heavy embarrassment. Following the instruction she had put her hand to her cheek only to feel a pen cap stuck to it. She removed it and hid herself with her hair while turning away. Her heart raced rapidly while her hands went cold, or perhaps it's her face that was heating up. Hearing a soft laugh from behind her only worsened the effects. Coming time for the class to finish, Mya rose quickly and left as fast as she could without running. The only thing on her mind was removing herself from the scene and disappearing from that girl's memory. "It's fine. I'll just pretend that this never happened. Yeah… no problem at all." However Mya couldn't have ever guessed what the day had left for her. In every class she had, that same girl had walked in and sat herself just one seat over from Mya. This made her suspicious that this girl was after something. Why else would a girl she had never seen before suddenly be in all of her classes? Why does she sit so close by when there are plenty of empty seats? Who was she? These, along with countless other questions, filled her mind.

As her last class of the day came to an end, she took notice of the sudden absence of the mystery girl. Uncertainty and confusion began to spread over her body as a cold sweat ran past her cheek. Unnerved to the point of doubt, she began to wonder more about that girl. Recalling back to the encounter just hours prior, she took slow strides down the carpeted corridor. Her discolored sneakers chafed against it with every shallow step. The sound caused mild annoyance to the casual few littering the hall, however none bothered to voice it aloud. Walking with slight haste as her eyes simply followed path of every step she took, a sudden impact with a poorly thrown object halted her. 'Ow! What the hell!' Taking in the her own surroundings at her feet, she furrowed her brow. 'Seriously…what is it with people.' She had remained silent and stood in place for a moment. Goon-ish laughing ruptured through the silence as two gym types approached with their own aura of bravado. They conjured up an obvious lie for their excuse and presenting a less than half hearted apology. Her body shivered in response as her fingers were tightly gripped to the waistband of her sweatpants. With her eyes on the floor, her face remained skewed from view. Apparently one of the males found her lack of eye contact offensive and grabbed the beanie from atop her head tauntingly. In a slew of mixed emotions she looked up quickly in a flustered panic. "Give that back!" Mya demanded with an almost fearful expression on her face. The male finally got a good look at her face as he held the beanie out of her reach. "Hey wait a minute. I know this girl from somewhere." He exclaimed with an eager tone. His buddy prodded him for an answer to which he replied. "She's the chick from that kinky video that got sent out 3 months ago!" This information seemed to spread throughout the surrounding audience like wildfire. The sound of whispers and gossip made the air almost unbreathable for Mya. Her ears reacted like they had heard nails on a chalkboard. Fight or flight kicked in with a heavy pressure inside her stomach which caused her physical pain. Her thoughts were racing, filled with fear and pleading for the world to freeze over. As it was all becoming too much to bear, she began sprinting down the hallway not bothering to look back.

Her hair, sweat, and tears were being blown back from her face with ever step. With blurred vision she made her way through a series of turns and down a flight of stairs. Her eyes darted around with angst moments before she stumbled herself into a bathroom finding refuge inside. Her legs, not use to such intensity, collapsed from under her. She crawled herself along the cold tile floor to the corner that was adjacent to the door. Mya pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly while tears rained down into the fabric. Muffled screams and moans of her despair echoed off the whitewashed tiles along the floor and walls. These sounds were over lapped by the bustling ambience of college students filling the hallways just outside the door. It was at this time that the memories and sensations of that moment came rushing back to the front of her mind.

The reverberating sounds of female laughter filled her ears. The pungent aroma of alcohol mixed with heated breath plagued her nostrils. The nauseatingly sour taste of sweat and blood stained her tongue. 'Shit!' Jolting back into the present, she frantically rushed to the nearest stall and cleared her stomach of all its contents. Staring down into the toilet, her eyes sunken, she thought of how liberating it might be to wash herself away like being flushed. With sluggishness, she got herself up walked out of the stall heading for the sink. The loud splashing and suction of the toilet sounded so distant as she stared at the pitiful image in the mirror. She held her head over the sink as chilled water poured into her cupped hands. As if attempting to drown herself, she repeatedly slapped the water against her face. It stung her swollen eyes and cooled down the heated temperatures of her cheeks. This acted as an anchor for her mind to remain focused on the here and now. Shaking off the excess, she grabbed one of the thin pieces of paper towel from the dispenser and dried herself before leaving.

Taking her first steps back out into the social world of a college campus, she was bumped into but quickly caught before reaching the ground. Her body was greatly fatigued by the emotional disaster from just moments earlier that she had nothing left to even humor a reaction. "Oops! Didn't see ya there. Oh hey, it's you." A low tone female voice said with a slight hint of excitement. Mya brought her eyes up toward the girls face, revealing that she had been the very girl she early tried to escape. Mya had no memory of the events that transpired among the 3 hours after this moment.
