Both girls sat and ate in an uncomfortable silence. Vivian could feel lasting glances from Mya across the table, but when their eyes met she would look away quickly. Vivian wasn't good with people like this, all anxious and quiet, it drove her crazy. As their awkwardly silent breakfast came to an end, Vivian finally took the initiative. "If you have something to say, say it! Like holy shit. You act like I'm terrifying."
Mya jumped a little at the sudden outburst aimed at her. Looking back down at her hands, she started picking at her nails. "S-sorry…I uh…" it was like her tongue was fighting against her. She just couldn't get her thoughts together enough to speak them. Not to mention the taxing stress fatigue of last night was still hitting her hard. Mya also was feeling this strange sensation in her chest, one she didn't know how to describe. She could only understand that she didn't like it.
Vivian was really losing her patience with Mya at the current moment. Just sitting there watching her try and collect her thoughts after the chaos of last night. More then the annoyance of Mya's personality, Vivian wanted an explanation. "Hello? You gonna spit it out or just stare at my table?"
The impatience in her tone was blatant enough that even Mya couldn't ignore it. "I'm sorry! I…Sorry for involving you in my problems." Her voice sounded hoarse from all the crying and screaming. "I swear….I won't ever forget what you did for me, and will do my BEST to make it up to you." Mya had a slight coughing fit after she got out her words, but then thought of something to add. "Oh, and I won't go near your girlfriend anymore either." Her fingers tightly intertwined while saying that last part, but it confused her why it felt so uncomfortable to say.
Before she could really process this new emotion Vivian snapped her fingers right in Mya's face. She didn't even notice Vivian get out of her seat, so it got Mya's attention clearly. "What is with you being so oblivious? Did you even hear anything I just said?"
Mya had completely missed it and nervously shook her head. "I'm sorry, I was just thinking and…I'm sorry…it's kinda hard to focus." Her eyes couldn't bare to look toward Vivian's as if overwhelmed by shame. Vivian pinched between her eyes before she reached down and grabbed Mya's chair.
Pulling it away from the table, she then swung her leg over and sat down. I'm sorry I'll listen this time!?" Mya grew flustered and seriously confused. Vivian, now straddling Mya, locked her arms around the back of her neck. She brought her face close, just as close as Claire's had been the day prior. The racing fears and concerns in Mya's mind were practically written on her face. Staring at her and taking notice,Vivian smiled with a feeling of dominance she hadn't ever experienced before. The situation was causing her face to turn a deep red, which pleased Vivian more then she knew.
Vivian hadn't even realize she was leaning in closer until her nose had gently tapped Mya's. Quickly she leaned back and sighed. "First off, Claire isn't my girlfriend. So if that's why you're all nervous and whatever, just stop. Secondly, you owe me some explanation for what the hell was going on with you and that creep! Seriously, I am not dying for helping you so spill it!"
Mya was stuck feeling her heart racing to the point she feared it would explode. The feeling of her clammy hands, as well as feelings of sweat starting to stream down her chest sent shivers down her spine. Mya couldn't explain the feeling she had, but it was too intense to ignore now. Vivian rolled her eyes noticing that Mya had zoned out again. 'Seriously this bitch..'
She was about to get off of Mya until a strong grip clung to her hips. Feeling this unexpected but familiar sensation caused Vivian to let out a soft yip. She quickly looked down toward Mya with an annoyed glare before realizing something was off. Her eyes looked glazed over, like she wasn't even aware of anything in front of her. Vivian quickly began to understand the problem and softly took hold of Mya's shoulders. Slowly she ran her hands down to Mya's and squeezed. This trick worked out and brought Mya back giving Vivian the chance to get off her lap.
Now she stood in front of her still holding her hands. "I didn't know…I'm sorry for getting too close to you." She said softly and was much more calm than she had been. Mya didn't really understand what had just happened but figured that it was her fault and apologized as well. Vivian let go of her hands and brought over the dirty dishes to the sink. Both girls remained silent again for a while. The looming questions and emotions of the entire situation on the forefront of their minds left the two silent. Both struggling to sift through their own thoughts and concerns until Mya finally spoke.
"His name's Adam…" Mya forced out through her teeth. "He was someone I had hoped to never see again when coming to college here. I ran from home just to escape him." She was tightly squeezing herself in a hug to try and relieve her strong discomfort with this topic.
Vivian listened intently, not wanting to interrupt or distract Mya from this. It was clear she needed to get this out to someone, and Vivian was an unexpectedly perfect choice. "He was really nice…sweet even, before I ruined things. It's all my fault…because I wasn't strong enough to face him like I should have." As she forced herself to open up in an attempt to give context to last nights events, tears began to well up in her eyes. Vivian walked over to the edge of the counter, grabbing a box of tissues to give to Mya. "Here. I know my personality is pretty prickly, and I don't have much patience…but I understand if you need to take some time. I can sort of piece it together, and I truly do understand it."
The moment turned emotional for the two girls as Mya got to her feet and felt compelled to hug Vivian close. Both of them hadn't even considered the possibility that someone else could relate to their own respective situations. It caused them to feel more comfortable with one another in a way Mya wasn't used too. 'She understands? Really?' However Mya's mind started persistently trying to dissuade her from truly trusting Vivian could possibly understand. 'Yeah right…what would she know?' It was these doubtful thoughts that caused Mya to lash out with raw emotion, drowning out Vivian's sincerity. She just couldn't believe, or rather couldn't allow herself to believe Vivian really understood. Especially when her own family shamed her because they couldn't.
"Look, I know you might not-" Mya cut her off before she could finish the sentence, shouting with unfiltered emotion. "Oh yeah? What do you know! Huh? You don't know me or anything that's happened to me! Stop pretending to care! Stop pitying me!" Her eyes were close to tears as she pushed herself away from Vivian, knocking into the chair causing it to fall. "I'm not! I'm just trying to tell you-" Again Vivian was silenced through an interruption from Mya's emotional outburst. "Just stop! I don't even wanna hear it! I know you had helped me before, and I appreciate it. But I…I don't want you to think I'm helpless! I'm not helpless! I know I'm not! I'm not!" To Vivian, it seemed more like this was directed at Mya herself. Like she was desperately trying to convince herself that it was true.
The escalation of this situation was beginning to get under Vivian's skin. Her patience wasn't much to begin with, but being yelled at by a girl she knew was all bark just pushed the wrong buttons. "Damn it! Can you just let me talk Maddison!" She snapped at Mya, addressing her with the name she heard Adam call her out at the door. The name silenced Mya almost instantly. As if that name was a curse placed on her soul, Mya felt as if she was drowning. Her breathing shortened and grew into rapid hyperventilation. This started to change Vivian's frustration to serious concern. She feared that maybe this was more than just being upset, perhaps a medical issue.
All that's stress Mya had been under in such a short span of time overwhelmed her body and caused a massive shut down. She just couldn't handle it. Vivian's heart sank as a he watched Mya's body go limp and hit the floor. "Oh shit! Hey! Hey!! Wake up, come on! Damn it!" Under the high duress, Vivian managed to fearfully dial the emergency number demanding help. 'God! This girl has been nothing but a box of problems since I met her?!' Sifting through some internal emotions she had been feeling, Vivian sat by Mya. Carefully she elevated her head by resting it on her lap. "I swear…if you die in my house…" While Vivian held and worried for her unconscious house guest, the front door swung open after being unlocked by a key. "Hey V, I'm here to drop off your-" Claire had entered through the door to a worrying sight. "Oh god, Mya!"
